Meghan and Harry have released a statement in regards to the California wildfire via their Sussex.com website.

It reads:

”In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life.
A state of emergency has been issued.
If you feel compelled to help, here are some resources and ideas:
Support
Organizations such as José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, which has been a longtime partner of The Archewell Foundation, are serving meals to both first responders and victims of the fire.
CAL FIRE and LA Fire Department Foundation and others are working closely to support firefighters who risk their lives, bravely showing up in these high-risk environments to help save homes, families, and communities in need.
Animal Wellness Foundation is continuing to house and care for animals evacuated by the fires while Compton Cowboys is providing emergency transportation services for horses.
Airbnb and 211LA have partnered to provide free, temporary housing for those who have been displaced.

Baby2baby is providing essential supplies including diapers, clothing, hygiene products, and emergency kits to families in need.
All Power Books and many others are staying open for emergency use, offering supplies and water for pickup while working tirelessly to distribute essentials to those affected.

Open your home
If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do. And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating.
Give back
Some families and people have been left with nothing. Please consider donating clothing, children’s toys & clothing, and other essentials. The American Red Cross is on the ground helping those in need.”

Helping animals helps us all.

Non-profit organization leading in animal rescue, animal protection and awareness; and low-cost medical care. Adopt, volunteer and foster opportunities available!

@mainecooncatonahottinroof I'm okay thanks. I don't need to go on about somebody I don't know for years on end to make myself feel good. 👍

NotaRealHousewife · 10/01/2025 16:19

The more people who talk about this the better, I'm not a fan but they are damned if the do and damned if they don't

Let's hope anyone with any fame, power, money uses it to raise the issues that have caused this

Well, exactly. They'll get knocked for any emotion because it's "making it about them". Without emotion, it's too cold and formal. If they hadn't said anything, they'd be ignorant and privileged. If they went out to help, they'd be accused of using it for PR.

Some people on this thread won't be happy until it's confirmed that Harry and Meghan started the fires deliberately using piles of portraits of the royal family as kindling.

And why do you think that might be??

They have consistently put themselves in the public eye, and bad-mouthed family members in doing so.

Of course they are going to be under scrutiny, because they have invited it. I don't know why some people seem to find this so difficult to understand?!

Bully for you.

I don't need to throw shade at other posters I don't know to make me feel good.

Harry has done the absolute lions share of moaning, slagging off his family and not correcting things if they were actually incorrect. He gets nowhere near the barrage of abuse she does. If they divorce, he will be welcomed back by the British public with open arms. His children, I suspect, not so much. I think that's why so many people are bizarrely desperate for them not to exist, or be born of surrogates etc.

Oh I think he does - Meghan is just in the spotlight now because of her new show.

I don't think Harry would be welcomed back with open arms, not now. Too much water under the bridge. He squandered a tremendous amount of goodwill towards him. There are those who will forever see him as the little boy at his mother's funeral.

From a public perspective, he has changed immensely since he met Meghan and not in any positive way, so there will be those who blame her influence for that change. Though maybe he hasn't changed and good PR protected him. Who knows now?!

"They are the ones I'd want to help too"

Good. You have an excellent choice of organisations to donate to. The links are not to "The Society for Distressed Gentlefolk" you know! As I said, World Cental Kitchen makes it paticularly easy to donate if you have ApplePay. They are the organization that lost 7 workers in a direct attack while they were distributing food aid in Gaza.i doubt if their focus will be millionaire

"Of course* * they are going to be under scrutiny, because they have invited it."

This statement isn't inviting it. Can't we for once just think about what people are going through out there, be grateful those with a high profile (not just Harry & Meghan) are using it to highlight sources to donate to, to help others. And maybe for once, not criticise them for this when everyone is doing the same as them in raising awareness?
It would be so refreshing.

Me?

No.

Then why would we be expecting our mothers to check on the elderly??

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 10/01/2025 16:35

CurlewKate · 10/01/2025 16:06

@mainecooncatonahottinroof My point is that this event might make some people rethink their position. We need rich and influential people speaking out on this issue.

There's no point unless they are prepared to put their money where their mouth is, and stop using private jets, stop driving huge gas guzzling cars, etc and basically live a much simpler life.

Can't see it somehow. So it's just hollow words.

That's not the way it works.

Then why would we be expecting our mothers to check on the elderly??

Someone asked why Doria (Meghan's mother) wasn't putting up elderly people.

I replied asking if everyone else famous, their Mothers were putting up those displaced

It was a joke!

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 10/01/2025 16:37

That's not the way it works.

I can quite see that.

Knock them for whatever they do. Because it will be wrong. Even if it is right.

They brought that on themselves.

And I don't see what's funny. Everyone should be checking that vulnerable people are ok.

That what I meant by "rethink their position"

@mainecooncatonahottinroof Have you made a donation?

Mulchadoaboutnothing12 · 10/01/2025 17:50

Interesting that you speak for the entire British nation mainecooncatonahottinroof

Not everyone feels the same way you know

If you ask me, some of the main players in the RF have used that same "good" PR very creatively to cover up their own misdemeanours and maintain the status quo.

I'm not that enamoured about any of them tbh but at least H & M have tried to break away.

And I think Harry is still a lot more popular than Andrew for example, although admittedly that's rather a low bar.

How did you figure out I was speaking "for the entire British nation"😂??? What a bizarre and ridiculous notion.

Are you also speaking on behalf of "the entire British nation"??

They didn't try to break away, though.

They asked, on record, for half in and half out.

@Mulchadoaboutnothing12 why would anything you say make me happy ? 😂😂😂

Nope. I'll take your word for it.

You seem to very confident asserting everyone else’s opinions for them!

I was pointing out that not everyone shares the same viewpoint as you.
