Meghan and Harry have released a statement in regards to the California wildfire via their Sussex.com website.

It reads:

”In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life.
A state of emergency has been issued.
If you feel compelled to help, here are some resources and ideas:
Support
Organizations such as José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, which has been a longtime partner of The Archewell Foundation, are serving meals to both first responders and victims of the fire.
CAL FIRE and LA Fire Department Foundation and others are working closely to support firefighters who risk their lives, bravely showing up in these high-risk environments to help save homes, families, and communities in need.
Animal Wellness Foundation is continuing to house and care for animals evacuated by the fires while Compton Cowboys is providing emergency transportation services for horses.
Airbnb and 211LA have partnered to provide free, temporary housing for those who have been displaced.

Baby2baby is providing essential supplies including diapers, clothing, hygiene products, and emergency kits to families in need.
All Power Books and many others are staying open for emergency use, offering supplies and water for pickup while working tirelessly to distribute essentials to those affected.

Open your home
If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do. And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating.
Give back
Some families and people have been left with nothing. Please consider donating clothing, children’s toys & clothing, and other essentials. The American Red Cross is on the ground helping those in need.”

Helping animals helps us all.

Non-profit organization leading in animal rescue, animal protection and awareness; and low-cost medical care. Adopt, volunteer and foster opportunities available!

Jesus fucking Christ. That woman can’t move so much as a toe without someone finding something to criticise.

If you’re not interested feel free to ignore

Likewise you can ignore what H&M post if you are not interested…

Ugh they’re so full of their own self importance. All that information is already out there. What are they doing to help I wonder?

Is that what you were hoping for, OP?

I am interested, hence why I posted it in the first place? What don’t you understand about this?

People are free to praise or criticise what’s in the public domain. I won’t police the thread. I’m neutral and have just posted what was already in the news.

I have no issues with them releasing a comment of support, and the content of the message overall is good (bar the shoe horning of Archewell - and by association - them into talking about available help).

It's the pompous "From the Office of..." And the use of full titles. It's tone deaf and unhelpful. The desperate need for relevance is palpable. The clinging onto titles that mean nothing in their country of residence is pitiful if nothing else.

GrouchyKiwi · 09/01/2025 20:36

As others have said, the more people who get the links out there the better. It's really helpful to have them all in one place. This is a good thing.

And, you know, they might very well have made donations to these organisations as well.

"From the office of ..." is always a bit much, though.

pelargoniums · 09/01/2025 20:40

Signal-boosting and sharing information is helpful. They have millions of followers; their names get picked up by media if she sneezes. It’s helpful to collate all the help available in one place, and in doing so, People and other outlets will share that info under the guise of a Meghan and Harry story.

Really, she could be personally out there fighting fires and donate her entire fortune to help, and she’d still get criticised. She’s been critiqued on here for posting about her dog dying; I’ve seen her criticised for carrying gloves instead of wearing them?! She’d be shat on for saying nothing about wildfires in her home state, she’ll be shat on for saying something.

Ohpleeeease · 09/01/2025 20:41

The Office of … I could do without but otherwise nothing to see here.

iwentjasonwaterfalls · 09/01/2025 20:42

If they hadn't said anything, they'd be criticised for not caring.
Meghan could be out there personally pouring buckets of water on the fire and half the comments would be "she's making it about herself" and the other half would be "she doesn't have enough water in that bucket, she's making the fires worse".

People need to get a life.

CathyorClaire · 09/01/2025 20:44

How many animals and/or humans are they offering a safe haven for?

pelargoniums · 09/01/2025 20:44

It’s Catherine’s birthday this week, Meghan started the fires to steal the attention.

Well the deceased pooch didn't manage it...

This.

Literally scores of famous people/celebrities have posted about the fires. Why is Meghan picked on for doing the same? Silly question really. It's Meghan.
It's pathetic.
What is this thread for, I have no idea... except to invite criticism of the statement from them about the fires. It's so obvious.

Findmeelf · 09/01/2025 20:50

As I said it wasn’t clear in your OP, most MNs threads don’t post a link to a story or statement without sharing their view.

Findmeelf · 09/01/2025 20:51

@PrettyFlyforaMaiTai So what do you think about the statement?

Findmeelf · 09/01/2025 20:51

"From the office of ..." is always a bit much, though.

Thats defo a bit cringe!

Dontknowwhattocall13893 · 09/01/2025 20:52

ShanghaiDiva · 09/01/2025 19:51

I imagine all of the organisations listed have already put out info on how to help so not sure how this statement adds anything. They don’t represent any of those organisation or have any expertise in this area so I assume this is just trying to make themselves feel relevant.

Some people mat follow them that don't know of the organisations though. Just like how it works every time a famous person puts out something like this.

Findmeelf · 09/01/2025 20:54

Yep, even if she died saving people from the fire she would be criticised for centring herself & looking for attention!

Ohpleeeease · 09/01/2025 20:56

I notice most posters are referring to the couple’s response. A few posters have decided to make this about Meghan Markle. All of them “supporters”. That’s a bit weird.

And wearing creased clothes!

crockofshite · 09/01/2025 20:57

They're just dispensing information, most of which is probably already out there.

If it helps people, then what's the problem.

BunnyLake · 09/01/2025 20:59

As long as they are opening up their home too. It would be a very humanitarian thing to do. Not their actual house but they must have guest housing.

supercalafrog · 09/01/2025 21:04

I just hope that the celebrities who have lost their homes, memories etc use this disaster as a platform for highlighting the effects of climate change!!!

It's very worrying.

'Researchers have calculated that the human-caused climate emergency has contributed to a 172% increase in California’s burned areas since the 1970s, with a further spread expected in the decades ahead.'

This co-incides with the age of jet travel and mega-consumerist lifestyles.
