Thinking long term about H and Me lives and their children's lives where is the funding going to come from and is there a serious risk of the funding drying up? I especially think of the children who I would expect would go to a private US school and ultimately will be US citizens perhaps pursuing US jobs. There is huge competition for celebrity status in the US and no nobility as such so how do they for in? Does the link to the RF quickly become an irrelevance ?

@adriftinadenofvipers I do not actually care if Harrys daughter wore a floral dress and socks. Sorry if I am supposed to care about that more than the alleged rape of a sex trafficked teenager by a man who should be in jail.

I don't GAF either what Harry's daughter wore. I have no idea where you got the impression that I did, because I have never commented on it.

I don't like lies, I don't like fake people, and I will call that out when I see it - I don't care who it comes from.

Our law states that a person is innocent until proven guilty, and I stand by that. I can't do anything about the allegation against Andrew and neither can you, but the difference is, I don't keep bringing it up in a thread that is discussing something totally unrelated. Start your own thread if you want to discuss Andrew.

Personally, I don't. There is nothing to be said. We all know the score!!

Nobody said there was a hierarchy of 'caring'. I don't actually care about any of them in all honesty. I care about my family and friends who I love! I do enjoy arguing about the royals though and that is clearly one thing we do have in common!!

So we are now comparing crimes that should send princes to prison. I presume you also agree Harry should have been convicted of drug offences and is also a criminal given his public confession of possession and use of class A drugs? An industry that also includes the trafficking and sexual exploitation of young women within its sphere.

Getting back to the children here in the US, @IcedPurple makes a good point about other royals living here pretty much under the radar. My DS has met another teenager who’s a prince and no one takes a bit of notice of his title. He’s just another teenager who plays the same sport.

Diana recognized that her children needed to go to school, do activities with other children, etc. I hope those poor kids aren’t kept at home in a security bubble. Yes, they’ll always be privileged, but no one will pay them much attention in the US.

He just can’t send them to school instead the UK after all the fuss he’s made about security. It would be ludicrous!

It’s actually amazing that considering how many kids the three Wales interact with - school, birthday parties, sports and clubs, that we’ve not seen many candids or selfies leak through the years.

ThatEllie · 08/01/2025 03:21

@IcedPurple is correct. Lots of prominent people live in the US from all over the world. Xi Jinping’s daughter lives in the US and no one bats an eye.

I also moved here. The typical American response to Harry and Meghan is along the lines of “Oh, do they still live here? Are they happy here? That’s nice.”

I suppose that’s hard for many people back home to wrap their heads around though. Sort of like realizing that Americans have never heard of Robbie Williams.

I agree, most people respect their right to privacy and as normal a life as possible outside of the official events.
A good example is football William and George are only in the papers when it’s England and they are in the Royal Box which is an official duty rather than when they go as fans.

I also think the Media choose not to publish them. The phone hacking and backlash after Diana’s death means they respect their childhood.

Are you honestly suggesting that no settlement was paid?

I've heard some batshit things in my time, that one takes the edge!

I doubt every single news source, web site, US news souces, Virginia Guiffre herself, her lawyers, are completely wrong in saying a settlement was reached. We may not know the exact figure but one was paid!

I have no doubt a settlement was reached, but I have no idea of the amount. I've seen various figures bandied about.

Andrews's a twat btw.

It is interesting you take as gospel newspaper accounts regarding Andrew. I take it the multiple accounts about Meghan's bullying, Harry's drug use, issues with their marriage etc etc are also to be taken as gospel?

Solanumdulcamara · 08/01/2025 08:01

It wasn’t just Diana who recognised the Harry and William needed to go to school. Queen Elizabeth and her sister were the last to have been taught at home and she was very well aware of the limitations of that. Her own children went to school and despite Charles’ hatred of Gordonstoun he recognised his children needed to go to school too.

It is part of the agreement with the media - they do not publish candid or paparazzi shots and in return they get the ones the Palace release every so often.

Yes, that's why I rolled my eyes when Harry or Meghan, or both, said something about how their children would be 'hounded by the paparazzi in England'. No they wouldn't. Firstly, 'paparazzi' don't really exist these days. The laws have changed and with social media and camera phones, random photos of 'celebrities' just aren't that lucrative anymore.

Secondly, as you say, there is a specific arrangement with the media that photos of the royals 'off duty', especially the children, are not published by the British press. I've seen photos of Kate with the kids doing 'normal' things, but they were only published on social media or in the European press. The eevil British media didn't touch them.

They both really are living in the past.

No I don't. I always try to do my research to establish might be correct what isn't. However, filed court documents will tell me that something did occur.
That was the point I was making, not whataboutery on Harry & Meghan.

EdithWeston · 08/01/2025 08:54

What’s weird is that I add the links to the Andrew thread, then we still get a slew of posts about him here.

I hope that derailment is now over!

itsstillmehere · 08/01/2025 09:09

@BustingBaoBun you say you try to do your research as to what is correct or not but really how is that possible? You are still being selective. As for Court records - funnily enough I sat and read the court records from the trial of the Lockerbie bomber last night and there are so many lies in that. We all make our judgements based on secondhand information.

I agree, wordler, but then while it's true about the media behaving differently these days, not everyone's trash whose first thought is to sell out to some rag

The changed behaviour is also why H&M had to use images of someone else's bank of photogs for their silly Netflix documentary, and were seen squeaking and gibbering about invisible paps while in their car
It seemed pretty pitiful to me, but then when you've got a victim narrative to sell I guess everything has to be thrown at it, even stuff which (as so often) has been shown to be untrue

coolmum123 · 08/01/2025 09:16

I have read most of this thread and one thing that occurred to me is what would be H&M’s kids ‘normal’? Or their parents perception of it?
By this I mean Harry’s childhood obviously wasn’t a normal one and it doesn’t come across that Meghans was either. Growing up on tv/film sets isn’t a normal thing and you are probably exposed to things most young children wouldn’t be. So I wonder what their perception of ‘normal’ is.
Willians childhood also wasn’t normal but I think Kate’s was so they have the benefit of a precedent rather than an idealised idea of what life would be like. IYSWIM.

I agree, William and Catherine's children do appear to have a good solid background, they are very close to Catherine's family and her parents appear to dote on their grandkids. Catherine is tight with her sister who also has kids similar age and they seem to be close with the Tindall kids.

For sure, the level of wealth and prominence in on a different level to most peoples 'normal', but I do think the kids appear to be raised in a very normal way. In many ways, it's similar to the likes of the Obamas raising their young children in the White House

And don't forget MM's perjury.

Edited to add: and her involvement with Epstein, as indicated by Ms Guiffre's lawyers in their court filings.

I can only try to get a broad view by reading a lot. As for Court documents, I will go with the fact that the Court document closing the Andrew/Guiffre case saying a settlement was reached, is correct.
If that's selective, that's fine.
