It's been said a number of times. She's just a bunch of movie tropes being acted out. The cool girl, the nerd girl turned prom queen, She-Ra, Ella Enchanted, Pretty Woman, Spencer. There's nothing authentic about her, which is why she needs to keep using the word, "authentic" at every opportunity. And we will see more of this bullshit once Scobie's new project comes to fruition, which basically sounds like Meghan Markle's life at KP through her distorted and mendacious lens.

Love that someone like Kathleen Stock, a philosopher and feminist and a truly brave and principled woman, is writing about this: nobody can accuse her of being a royalist, tabloid hack.

Many a feminist are known to treat non white women appallingly. So not really a surprise.

I think a lifestyle show is a very hard sell in 2025. When Martha Stewart started there was little out there no Instagram and she actually cooked the food and was a caterer. Rhee Drummond “pioneer woman” also found a niche. Gwyneth Paltrow is one who I think failed. I am a good cook have a lovely home which is “thoughtfully curated” and most of this content is way out of my reach and ambition. Martha Stewart seemed approachable and her style…antique stores and flea markets in the late 80s certainly available to all. 20k le corneau (spelling?) stoves perfect marble countertops and every single item every single room perfect as on Instagram is financially unreachable. The sheer expense of imitating most of this is out of reach. Nancy myers is a coveted usa esthetic. A set designer and producer for hollywood(it’s complicated / the holiday/ something’s gotta give) with unlimited budget. Meghan won’t be successful because it’s a saturated market so the host must seem real and approachable. And Meghan described as a foodie has never sat well with me… she’s so very skinny (like Giada) it seems a disconnect. And a lovely set table with balloon props and
fresh flowers is not how most parents feed their children.

Atlasvue · 05/01/2025 12:45

Giada, Valaries Home Cooking, Girl Meets Farm, Pioneer Woman- all successful, feel good cooking shows.

But they all gave a glimpse of their families, what they eat, their fav dishes, what is being made for their birthday dinner, quick snacks for the kids. Set in their actual homes.

We will never have that with Meghan. That part of her life is closed off, so it feels like you’re not seeing a real person.

The show is set in an artificial bubble, in a rented house, where we are to image she lives alone, where she has no kids to drop off to school, no family, just rich friends popping by to admire the lady that lunches flower arrangements, candle making and elaborate tea parties.

No one in the world lives like this. No one. Even a super rich single woman who could afford that lifestyle, would be working, travelling, eating at fine dining restaurants. Being a Stay-At-Home-Millenial isn’t a thing. Why they made that the premise of the show I don’t know!

When it bombs , it will be the final excuse to end the Netflix contract .

@Lndnmummy

"Anyway, why would an adult go to the lengths as above for someone you you have such disdain for? Isn't it enough to gasp and pearl clutch in your own home? Why is the need to feed this frenzy, national hate of this woman whom you have never met. Who has done nothing to you?"

Can we reverse that? Why would adults who have never met Meghan feed on the frenzy of Meghan? Fall over themselves to support her even when it has been proven she lies. Same same...

itsstillmehere · 05/01/2025 12:51

How do we pair the woman who meets with Afghani women to cook food and then the one who uses up all those lemons to prop up some flowers?

MissRoseDurward · 05/01/2025 13:09

once Scobie's new project comes to fruition, which basically sounds like Meghan Markle's life at KP through her distorted and mendacious lens.

Oh, I missed that he has a new project. I thought he was 'stepping back' from royal reporting - or in other words, he was dumped after the screwup with Endgame.

LeavesOnTrees · 05/01/2025 13:12

I had a brief look, the criticisms on MN are nothing compared to the comments on the Netflix youtube page.
Of course she's going to be criticised, look at when V.Beckham entered the fashion industry. Everybody was waiting for her to fail but she got on with it and succeeded.

Meghan was given a $100 miĺlion ! Netflix deal on the back of marrying in to and then leaving the Royal Family, who she then proceeded to spend several years trashing.
She destroyed her own career and credability with the Oprah interview, long before this trailer came out.

I find her interesting in a 'how can someone who had it all, throw it all away so spectacularly' kind of way.

Lastly, isn't houmous with vegetable sticks what you serve when you can't be bothered to cook a starter, same with ice-cream (with or without the jam) ?

Atlasvue · 05/01/2025 13:14

Even the BBC pointing out the feminist to trad- wife rebrand and likens the move to Nepo baby Brooklyn Beckham.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp9n3l07k2ro.amp

They quote a publicist:

"I think she is all about herself. As a publicist, I can't understand how she can't read a room."

"This is clearly all about her own commercial interests," says Silver.
"They're aware their income is going to dry up at some stage. Their lifestyles are quite lavish, they're mixing in upmarket circles and they don't want to be the poor relation."

"I can't imagine this is going to be a well viewed thing,"

They do try and keep it balanced with other thoughts, but you get the feeling that even the BBC know this is a dud.

“For her detractors, they will say this is glossy and superficial, Hollywood at its worst.
But for her fans, they will say it's great to see her back, and that this shows exactly what the Royal Family are missing.
In other words, this is likely to reinforce whatever people already think about Meghan, on either side of the debate.“

The best they can come up with in her defence….is that the RF are missing out on the gloss and superficialness that only Meghan could bring???

If the BBC can’t defend you, and by god, they manage to do it for all sorts! Then it’s bad.

So you believe the royal family haven't told a single porky about the pair of them!

They meet regularly, almost daily to brief the press. Camilla's lunches with Piers Morgan and his ilk.

I despair! You continue hating, I'm sure it makes you feel happy so good for you. Very nice, cool in fact.

I note that you haven’t responded to @MrsFinkelstein regarding her question as to which stories. Interesting.
Camilla Tominey has gone on record to say that she has never been or would ever be briefed by any member of the Royal Family. It just doesn’t happen.
Unfortunately, we all now know that some people won’t let facts get in the way of their conspiracy theories.

MummyJ12 · 05/01/2025 13:35

There were 50 personnel on set. Why on earth would she need that many people?! Especially when she was aiming for “joy” not “perfection”……
I can’t imagine she’s happy with the reaction so far and as pps have said before me, the comments on YouTube are absolutely brutal compared with anything posted here.

MrsLeonFarrell · 05/01/2025 14:07

That comment in the BBC article about it not changing people's opinions of her is interesting. If she wants to make some serious money she needs to shift the dial of public opinion in her favour. I would hazard a guess that the vast majority of people are neither for nor against just indifferent and that won't bring in the viewing figures she will need.

He is writing a book/script about an American woman who goes to work as a PR person for the RF and experiences a clash of cultures. Sound familiar? It has been bought by Universal TV. It's called Royal Spin.

So this is the exact type of thing I was referring to. And as far as I am aware, I am on my own here. No tag teaming of any kind. No name change either, again do feel free to check that with MNHQ.

Anyway, why would an adult go to the lengths as above for someone you you have such disdain for? Isn't it enough to gasp and pearl clutch in your own home? Why is the need to feed this frenzy, national hate of this woman whom you have never met. Who has done nothing to you?

Edited

We need to start the bingo card now.

"Never met."
"Done nothing to you."
"Pearl clutching
" ( A new one, Inthink, but worth watching for.)
"Frenzy."
"Hate." (National, no less!)

Rhaidimiddim · 05/01/2025 14:22

Lndnmummy · 05/01/2025 11:37

But do they though? Find it dull? Dull would not be creating this endless frenzy and blood frothing at their every move. If people really thought they were dull they would just leave them to it and carry on with the sainsburys shop, surely?

This is something else. It is hate. Venom. Bullying and Vindication. It is relentless. It is abhorrent. And deeply disturbing. And yes, racist. To the core.

"Bullying."
"Racist." (To the core, no.less.)

Excellent point.
She was cherry picked by MM too.
Unfortunately was made to take, “extended, unpaid leave” because of it.

MM always blames others and takes no accountability. It’s a major issue.

She’ll be blaming others for the trailer being so widely panned. Probably those 50 crew members

And probably demanding that they also take extended unpaid leave!

It will be interesting if Netflix keep the comments turned on below the YouTube trailer. It will also be interesting to see if there is a recut trailer put out.

It’s clear from other platforms such a X that WME are working overtime, and putting out (probably paid for) positive social media press pieces today.
