So the View in America- have mixed views on Meghans show. The usual. One side saying inauthentic and out of touch.

But interestingly, the other women (who some would class as woke liberals) have the most bizarre argument yet- that poor people want to watch the rich being rich!!!!
Using the example of the 1930s depression and that the films shown at the cinemas at this time were always following the stories of the uber rich and glamorous.

They are saying….. the peasants want to watch the Aristos eat cake.

If this is the best argument they can come up with, then it’s going to get torn apart on release.

Interesting comments too on the yahoo page

I don't think that's entirely bizarre. There's always been a market for 'lifestyles of the rich and famous' genre. But that's catered for with the various 'Real Housewives' and 'Selling Sunset' type programming.

The problem is, a 'lifestyle' show doesn't fit into that category. It's supposed to be relatable, or at least aspirational. Going by the trailer, this show doesn't appear to be that. But nor is the rather twee balloons and girly dresses vibe aspirational. At least not to me.

I wonder how you will look when you are her age! What a disgusting thing to say about the woman! The Queen Consort supports many wonderful initiatives but you only want to diss her.

Harry and Meghan did not go away to get away from (I assume?) you mean Prince Andrew? Just checking because I'm not aware of his having a propensity for underage girls?

Such a "beautiful ambitious caring woman" 😂Oh you have it baddddddd.... nobody is "jealous" of Meghan. Such a trite and predictable remark though...

What are Charles and Camilla doing to help the homeless in London while they live in palaces? Yet you are putting Meghan down for reaching out to the people of her home state at a time of devastation?

I don’t get it.

What did they achieve then?

Nina7648 · 12/01/2025 19:55

Mylazycatspyjamas · 12/01/2025 19:51

William is campaigning for Homeless charities. Charles makes an effort to go to the scenes of disasters in the Uk, as does William. The point is M and H are not representing the RF. They are nobodies.

’Effort’ hilarious in itself. So if they are nobodies whats the issue? Sounds like a load of patriarchal loyalism to the crown in my opinion. Meghan is put down for being in front of cameras. Charles shows up to the odd disaster in front of the cameras but does what else? Does he donate? Does he get down on the ground and get his fat fingers dirty? No.

The bitterness towards Meghan because Prince Harry who is a grown man and no ones property fell in love is staggering. Maybe if she does away with herself you will all be happy. It beggars belief to me.

Nina7648 · 12/01/2025 19:50

Not a great look either to have Prince William champion wildlife causes when his family kill animals for sport, or Camilla talk about domestic violence when she and King Dick were so cruel to Diana. Probably not great either that the UK is going through a harsh month of minus temperatures while they sit with their feet up in one of seven palaces while people who are homeless freeze to death but yeah, lets focus on Meghan.

Well the thread is literally about Meghan - if you want to talk about any other royals, start a thread!!

Yes people love these shows for the gaucheness of it all. It’s vulgar people showing off their vulgar tastes. No one envies that life, not really.

But Meghans show invites you admire and envy her lifestyle, that’s why people won’t connect.

From the yahoo link re The View

"When Martha Stewart first started doing this, no one was saying all these things,” Hostin argued. “This has more to do with the fact that people want to hate on Meghan Markle than, I think, you know, this topic.”

I think that spectacularly misses the point. Martha Stewart (after trying her hand at a few other things) has a catering business from the 1970s, ran a food store, published about a dozen cookbooks and appeared on a number of other people's shows before getting her own in the early 1990s and it all taking off.

If Meghan had done even a fraction of that relevant and specifically related stuff earlier in her career, then of course people would be saying different things!

Can I gently suggest you RTFT, where you will see plentiful examples (recent as well as long running) of shows which are discussed weeks and indeed occasionally months before release date.

Yes, you're supposed to look at Meghan's show and aim to be like her. To want a part of that 'lifestyle', perhaps by buying whatever wares she may be peddling.

But unless the trailer is very misleading, the 'lifestyle' looks to be bland, twee and a bit cringey. Maybe their are people who aspire to that but I don't know any of them. I hope!

Atlasvue · 12/01/2025 20:04

Martha had a very successful catering business. Catering many fancy soirées. The reason why it was so successful wasn’t just because she made delicious food, but that she presented it in the most spectacular ways.

That was her selling point, that’s why she got the first book deal. She could make something that not only tastes delicious but looked amazing….and she could show you how to create a little of that at home.

You do know that Diana had numerous affairs ? Broke up Will Carling’s marriage , stalked Oliver Hoare’s wife ( police involved).
Not a lot shocks me but your vitriolic rants are truly appalling .

Any ideas on how beautiful, caring and ambitious Meghan might have come to the attention of Ms Guiffre's lawyers, and what information she could have provided about Andrew?

I am not even going to waste my time replying to such vitriol. It's vile and ageist.

I can't imagine anything more tedious personally!

I could never in a million years adopt such a persona either. I am much happier being direct and honest.

I actually like the wood pigeons and collared doves that have been in my garden over the years, but there's a growing band of noisy feral ones creeping in now. They chase off other birds, and I am worried about being overrun by the pesky things!!

It was a bit of both 😂

I wfh in my dining room, overlooking the garden through my french doors, and they fight over food!! They also chase other birds.

Mind you, in all fairness, the goldfinches probably fight the most!

We started off with three ferals and then I think the neighbours' cat offed one of them, but now there's 8 or 9 at a time! Some of them are lovely colours!
