I, against my better judgement, watched one of the videos on this thread.
What struck me was that for all the performative hugging that came from Meghan, the footage of Harry was in stark contrast.

He stood back and listened, giving a reassuring pat or hug in response.
But he did seem to let the people speak.

I'm guessing that he's more royal than he thinks.

His instinct is right.

Equally he looks very uncomfortable with his wife's reaction.

Makes me ponder what conversations go on within the home.

She would do well to listen to him from time to time.

Remember though that Harry just got out of a chauffeur driven car on his way somewhere to hug some random people by the roadside recently. It was just SO inappropriate.

@Lampzade Harry has in the past shown discomfort with his wife's actions or words eg the curtsey and comparison of the RF to Medieval Times restaurant or on the balcony at Buckingham Palace when she couldn't face front or when she mocked the autistic singer at the Canadian event. It happens.

Mocked the autistic singer ????
Dont believe that

Strange comment

Genuinely, what is “strange” about this comment? Do you approve of every aspect of your spouse’s behaviour, at all times. Has there never been a time when they’ve behaved foolishly & you’ve been slightly embarrassed. Meghan is “a hugger” as we know and is extremely performative, constant pats and invasions of person space, additionally inappropriate behaviour at events. There is footage where they’re at an Invictus event, the camera pans onto them, Meghan sees it and pulls her collar open on her dress, presumably for a better shot, Harry sees it and mutters something to her to which she responds irritably “No, I’ll stick around!” according to a lip reader. Looked like he was telling her she didn’t need to stay. He refused to make eye contact with her for the rest of the footage & I see that quite often in footage of these two. I think she regularly mortifies him and also that the reverse is true. She cannot hide her annoyance at some of the stuff he’s coming out with or if he spends too long speaking to someone.

Xag · 11/01/2025 13:44

Harry probably learned more than he realised from his mother, who took the young princes with her on visits to charities from when they were quite young.

itsstillmehere · 11/01/2025 13:50

I don’t know if she was mocking her but the camera panned in on Meghan and she was smirking, looking like she was trying not to laugh. She turned to Harry as if she found something funny and tried to catch his eye but he doesn’t see her so she looks back to the performance.

It might have been innocent but it seemed odd in contrast to Harry and everyone else’s reaction in the crowd. They were all stood respectfully with straight faces, no one was smirking or even smiling, as she was singing the national anthem. She clearly found something amusing and wanted to highlight it to Harry, whatever it was.

I find that Invictus footage genuinely disturbing. Her (quite horrible) facial expressions, talking to herself and fidgeting. It's like she's malfunctioning.

Whilst I agree his behaviour comes across as less inappropriate in the moment, I'm not going to give him a pass because he's still turned up there, with her, to posture and pontificate and make a tragic situation about themselves. I don't think he's any better than she is.

Atlasvue · 11/01/2025 15:27

She can at times, look out-of-sorts in public . Like the time she did the walkabout when the Queen died or her speech at the Godmothers bookshop opening. At the LA children’s Hospital event, there was a video with two other women, the women looking ahead and smiling for the camera. Meghan makes a jokes, laughs herself and then shouts ‘whoah’ to try and compose herself. She looked really out of place.

I think she’s actually very nervous, but she’s built up this super confident persona and it catches her out. I think that’s often why she clings to people or rushes to hug- she has a lot of physical nervous energy that she needs to put somewhere. She cannot stand still

I also think this is what led to trouble with the Palace. She doesn’t know how to speak to people and relate, I think she then becomes incredibly frustrated and that’s what led to her rude behaviour, going on to bully others. She’s not a great communicator.

Because, unlike her, he knows how to behave.

Nothing strange at all about the comment.

He looked like he wished the ground could swallow him up when she did that awful parody of how she curtsied to the late Queen!

Though I'm glad he didn't. Meghan really showed us all who she was.

Totally agree.

Which is the kindest thing anyone has said about her.

Atlasvue · 11/01/2025 22:40

Not really, as the responsibility is all her own.

She chooses to put herself out there on the public stage as a royal, an activist, humanitarian, who told us in her engagement interviews she was going to hit the ground running.

But the truth is, she isn’t equipped with the tools for a public life, let alone Royal. The acting world worked for her, because it’s a very controlled environment but she falters in public where there’s no script and editing button.

At times she struggles in social settings and doesn’t know what to do with her nervous energy. The image she’s actively tried to cultivate over the years, that of an accomplished, polished public leader, just doesn’t ring true. She’s has an awkward teenager energy about her, doesn’t know what to do with herself. She then attempts to control her nerves by clinging, hand holding, hugging, repeatedly talking in banalities and word salad, which only further illustrates her incompatibility with a public facing role.

The fault is all her own but blames others when it all goes wrong. If you take the empath banana incident, where her social awkwardness meant that she thought that was a great idea. The public were quite right to be shocked by a Royal, writing fridge magnet affirmations on bananas that were to go out in food parcels to vulnerable and abused women who were prostituting their bodies on the streets. This is not normal behaviour. To write ‘you are strong’ on a banana, to go out to vulnerable women that you haven’t met, and will never meet. We even found out that she got the idea from mothers who wrote them for their kids lunchboxes!
It was totally inappropriate. Can you imagine, that when she turned up today to help with One World Kitchens feeding emergency workers, the displaced, those who have lost their homes….and she wrote ‘you got this’ on a fucking banana. There would be outrage!

But even this could have been resolved if she apologised. All she had to do was get the palace to release a statement saying that she never meant to cause upset and was done in good faith, however she recognises that this wasn’t appropriate. But that’s not what happened- what happened is she blamed the toxic press for criticising her, claiming they did so because they were racist.

Her failures, her social ineptitude, that she fails to recognise, is what leads to all her problems. She’s a hot mess.

Where is it all going to end I wonder? I used to think Harry had a natural way with people, like his mother. Since he’s been with Meghan he comes across as angry, arrogant and superior , or bored and disengaged. Sometimes when he’s on his own a bit of the old spark comes back, but he seems so different now . Neither of them are at all likeable.

MrsLeonFarrell · 12/01/2025 07:18

I think Harry inherited a certain ease with people from both his parents. Watching Charles since he became King it's obvious that he genuinely loved meeting people and is invested in helping make lives better. Diana really did a number on his reputation in the War of the Wales that I don't think it's justified when it comes to his parenting.

GiveMeSpanakopita · 12/01/2025 07:54

Some really astute observations here. I agree with PPs, and it again comes back to the difference between Royalty and celebrity.

Harry understands (because he's been trained from birth) that Royalty do not centre themselves when they meet members of the public. The Royal person's function is to act as a filter, a cipher through which the member of the public is provided a platform to talk about what has happened to them.

Celebrity, of course, centres itself.

Meghan does not understand this crucial difference and has consistently elided the two very different states of being. She inexplicably continues to confuse the two even though, after a number of years married to Harry, she should know the difference.

I suspect that Harry is either not self aware enough or simply not articulate enough to explain the difference. Which is why the Queen wanted Lady Susan and Sophie to be Meghan's special mentors when she was in the RF. They could definitely have explained it. But Meghan rejected their help because she thought she knew best.

Harry has always been an arrogant, angry character, but I think William was always a bit of a foil for him and help deflect that. I don't think it was a coincidence that the two of them were often interviewed together.

I agree that Harry has had good training from both his parents as well as his grandparents. KC is often maligned, but has real empathy.
