Just a movie quote that came to mind reading all the dissertations from people about a show they’re definitely not going to watch.
Which reminds me I need to do a Bridget trilogy rewatch before going to see the new movie 🍿

I don't know what sort of "dissertations" you must have written!!

Hardly "dissertations" - a few words typed on a page?!🙄

I think Meghan has a bit of competition Bank of Dave 2 is due out tomorrow on Netflix

If I am honest I would rather they did not comment on the LA fires if they can only see them over the hill - who needs their opinion.

Yes the WRF is contacted about things - PH is Royal by birth and M by marriage - I am not sure their views are needed.

BUT that is one opinion and I am not American not living in that area so please do ask for this post to be deleted if it rings badly with anyone. Seriously.

Too late !

Mylazycatspyjamas · 09/01/2025 19:42

I can’t watch that statement. The enormous pretentiousness of that pompous statement puts me right off.

Uricon2 · 09/01/2025 19:44

Mylovelygreendress · 09/01/2025 19:40

The office of the Duke and Duchess has issued a statement.

https://sussex.com/southern-california-fires/

*Open your home
If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do. And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating. *

I wonder if they will be opening the Montecito mansion up as an aid station for those escaping the (terrible) fires.

Doubtful. Harry has military training, perhaps he should be volunteering?

Mylazycatspyjamas · 09/01/2025 19:44

Actually I read the summary. So we are assuming that they are both opening their home to those in need, checking on their neighbours who they ignore all year and donating their kids toys.

Fucking hell - they really do hoover up other people's grief and bad experiences to then turn the tables right back to them - they are odious parasites

ShamedBySiri · 09/01/2025 19:49

Hard luck @BasiliskStare
They have released a statement.

Harry and Meghan release statement over California wildfires

It occurs to me this is the perfect opportunity for them to show some of that love. They e got quite a few spare bedrooms haven't they?
After all, Tyler Perry lent them a home when they didn't have anywhere to go.
Surely there must be some Hollywood bigwigs they could ingratiate themselves with by inviting them in.

@ShamedBySiri - can you imagine ... they would literally only let people in who can do something for them, paratitise off of and bleat on about it for years .. not the general public, only people they seem important

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 09/01/2025 20:06

Reminds me of my parents, who were obsessed with refugee causes, but in spite of seven bedrooms across two houses, they were mysteriously unable to offer room to locals dislocated by floods.

ShamedBySiri · 09/01/2025 20:07

It's hilarious really @CatsWhiskerz

From a thread on X:

"aftermath is going to happen painfully slow. From powerlines to gas lines to environmental remediation.
-there are going to be thousands and thousands of affluent displaced people. Demand for rentals and prices are going to soar in nice neighborhoods."

"adjacent school districts are going to overflow. It’s super disruptive for everyone.
-car lots and furniture stores are going to be overrun.
-pets are displaced everywhere. If you see one and can help, great, but don’t be an idiot."

They can probably get a replacement for Guy from the animal shelter.

Uricon2 · 09/01/2025 20:16

Honestly, that "statement" has really annoyed me. Such marvellous humanitarians, instructing others about what they should do while doing eff all themselves.

Fine, do nothing, hope you remain unscathed, it is the way of the world but please-don't preach about what others should do.

Grrr.

JFC. That's so pompous and tone deaf.

"The Office of..."

I'm sure it's meant well, but the sheer arrogance of waving their titles in everyone's face at a time like this (as well as shoe horning in Archewell) is an absolute prime example of why they keep heating. The desperate need for relevance is palpable.

ShamedBySiri · 09/01/2025 20:36

It's not being well received on X.
This will really skewer any good will towards the show when it drops next week.

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 09/01/2025 20:42

Well, I'm sure they mean well, but do people really need to be instructed by those two in how to offer help to others? It’s pretty basic stuff, isn’t it? Donating to the Red Cross and checking on neighbours…that’s what people do in response to disasters.

Still, at least they managed to insert themselves into the middle of everything, splashing their titles as they did it.

Xag · 09/01/2025 20:46

Are many people in US making statements?

The reporting there and the reporting here in the UK about who is saying what are probably rather different.

EleanorBettyJackie · 09/01/2025 21:03

They'll be on X singing "Imagine" next.

JSMill · 09/01/2025 21:27

Omg are they still issuing patronising statements from the 'office of'? They really have no idea how the public views this shit, both in the US and the UK.

I would expect public officials to issue statements.

Random celebrities might post 'thoughts and prayers' type messages on their social media. But not 'statements'. Since they have no official role whatsoever, the Sussexes fall into the category of 'random celebrities'. The 'Office of the Duke and Duchess' thing is just so laughably pathetic and grandiose.

It's typical patronising shite from them, "do as I say, not as I do"!!

So pretentious.

Atlasvue · 09/01/2025 22:03

They are ridiculous

To me it says they’re concerned about how the NF show will be received next week, so have put out this ridiculous statement to look like they’ve addressed the issue……now on with the show!

They know, we know….its not going to go well.

Indeed! Can you imagine in one of their next self publicising purchased award ceremony saying how many people and animals archewell saved the lives of by publicising and garnering help for those in the fire zone ... instead of 'when I was a girl aged just 11 .... me me me' it'll be updated to her bravery and selflessness in saving LA
