Perhaps she wanted to share the news about Guy passing because he features in the series, which will be aired a week today. Meghan is clearly a sincere dog lover and I cannot believe she would use his passing for any personal gain. I watched the video and it's a lovely to tribute to a beautiful little doggie (even if it did make me cry).

IAmATorturedPoet · 08/01/2025 17:21

I think a little message/tribute put up either at the beginning or the end of the first episode would have been a better idea.

If this was Catherine grieving over a pet it woukd be condemnation all round for people speculating about the timing of the news and what not. Noone has confirmation of when the dog died. Someone wrote something on X or wherever it's been repeated, shared and now repeated here and now it's seen as factual and now used to yet again have a pop at someone. How dare she capitalise on this it's just performative PR blah blah blah.

Don't you think for yourselves when you know it's not factual just gossip thay someone is grieving and now isn't the time to have a pop at them over when they share the news. There is plenty to criticise but come on not over this. Like how low do you want to go as a person.

Serenster · 08/01/2025 17:37

We don’t have written confirmation from Catherine herself that she cynically does things expressly to tug on the general public’s heartstrings though, do we? So they are not in the same position. And as posted on this thread, the Wales did announce that the dog that had featured in several family photos had died. They said when it happened, and showed a photo of their pet. So we don’t have to speculate about their approach here, we know it.

It’s ridiculous to demand that everything Meghan does be assessed from a completely clean slate.

boredashellbythiscrap · 08/01/2025 17:39

So much hate aimed at one person it is unbelievable even about the timing of the death announcement of her pet dog. So many posters obsessed with Meghan even saying that she shouldn't announce things close to Kate's birthday. What has her birthday got to do with Meghan they live on opposite sides of the world on different continents they have no bearing on each other. Thread after thread aimed at this one woman who was in the RF for 5 minutes. Get a grip and concentrate on the "working" royals.

Serenster · 08/01/2025 17:47

Many people believe, and with some reason, that Meghan and Harry have brought this cynicism about their conduct on themselves by their own past conduct though. As I just said above I cannot see any reason why we need to pretend that none of that has happened.

Are we also expected to greet the news of Katie Price’s latest relationship with unfettered delight at true love’s appearance? Apply this to any other celebrity and you will see how silly it is.

Gosh, you are dramatic.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 08/01/2025 18:40

I’m no Meghan fan but she wouldn’t have been able to post about Guy 😢 if she didn’t have SM.

It’s hard losing a beloved pet.

To all those who have, 🍷 for them all. And to my two. Lost them years ago but I still miss them!

I’ll be bereft when our current princess goes.

Catherine's and William's statement when their dog died -

  • The couple shared an image on Instagram on November 22, 2020, saying, "Very sadly last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away. He has been at the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much".

As Meghan has 'form' for "performative PR", you do tend to regard anything she comes out with somewhat cynically.

I'm sorry she lost her dog though, as a cat person.

wordler · 08/01/2025 20:11

I think the Kate birthday timing is just coincidence because this idea that they are targeting her seems to be based on two big Sussex events happening in the first weeks in Jan - Spare was released in Jan 2023 the day after Kate’s birthday but the first event was their big Megxit announcement in 2020 but we know that was a rushed affair to try to control the news cycle before it was scooped by Dan Wooton so very unlikely to be planned around Kate’s birthday.

I’m fairly cynical about the timing of some of their PR at times but I think the 2020 timing was a complete coincidence so there’s no real ‘pattern’ to support that claim.

Spectre8 · 08/01/2025 20:31

Well i didn't know they had a dog who died and announced ed I don't follow the royals thay closely.

And so whay of they said when the dog died. People are different and will say things differently. Why must she do what they do if she did you say she copies them.

I just feel like if a person is grieving from losing someone of a beloved pet than no matter what you just hit pause and don't pop at them about it. Fine go ahead criticise everything else if you must but ffs just leave that alone. That's my opinion.

I agree.

I don't like Meghan but she doesn't have to time everything around the birthdays of a sister in law she barely knows.

Besides, does anyone outside her family really care about the non milestone birthday of a woman in her 40s? It all sounds a bit childish.

HeddaGarbled · 08/01/2025 23:21

Why is there a close up of jam bubbling in a pan in the tribute to the dog?

Xag · 08/01/2025 23:23

Montecito is only about 60 miles from the fires. I hope the winds aren’t blowing to the west

GreenTeaLikesMe · 09/01/2025 00:21

Good gawd, is there a new rule now that we can't make any kind of announcement about anything within X number of days of our sister-in-law's birthday? Who made that rule up?

The video and the Netflix show both look pretty facile and I shan't be viewing, but this kind of stuff is stupid.

Once again I am struck by the tendency among modern women towards "competitive non-attention-seeking," ie insisting that other women's "special days" must be safeguarded/feted/put on a pedestal to an absolutely ludicrous extent (even when the woman herself doesn't bloody care). It's essentially just the latest form of bitchy and controlling behavior.

See also: expecting women to hide all signs of pregnancy when they are a wedding guest. I would have been thrilled if a guest at my wedding had let other guests know that they were pregnant (or engaged, or whatever).

HeddaGarbled · 09/01/2025 01:16

I think it’s just that H&M, particularly M, have a bit of form for making announcements that coincide suspiciously with her in-laws special things. Some of it probably is just coincidence.

WinterCrow · 09/01/2025 02:48

Oh god, the birthday madness on MN.

It's my birthday week in the first week of February and I like to keep it special and celebrate throughout the week with my family and friends. Everyone who knows me is aware of this. Anyway my SiL has posted on the family calendar app that in that week she has booked a hair and nail appointment and I think it's incredibly disrespectful of my wishes and my birthday time as she's now made the week all about pampering herself and not me. AIBU to ask her to postpone her appointment until a more appropriate time?

This! Very weird behaviour from (presumably) fully grown adults

WordSmithereen · 09/01/2025 04:39

I quite enjoyed some of the Archetypes episodes so willing to give the new show a try. The episodes seem to be on the shorter side though so hoping they’re just tightly edited and not lacking in substance.

I think it’s pretty deliberate most of the time.

I agree with this.

Plus, lots of people announce things in January. First month of the year is the starting point for many new projects. Catherine is the last person who I would expect to throw a hissy for because someone announced or did something near her birthday. Why should anyone else be cross on her behalf (except The Mail of course because they need to constantly stir up outage for clicks)?

Shocking pictures, it really does look like an apocalypse. Devastating for the families that have lost loved ones and everyone that lives and works in those communities. The poor wee animals as well 😢
