In 2023 it was reported they were working on two projects for Netflix:

  • a prequel to Great Expectations featuring a strong woman in a patriarchy

And they can keep their grubby mitts off Dickens. What do they know about the people and society Dickens was writing about? I doubt if Harry has ever even read the book.

BemusedAmerican · 05/01/2025 19:29

I just can't see Miss Haversham as a strong woman. Probably just me.

TheSecondMrsCampbellBlack · 05/01/2025 19:32

Omg the youtube comments are hilarious!

No, a strong woman would have said screw him and got on with her life.

Agreed. Jilted rich woman sits in her rotting wedding dress surrounded by ossifing food for decades and plans revenge on (one) the male of the species by using an innocent girl.

Pitiable perhaps, but no feminist role model.

Mylovelygreendress · 05/01/2025 20:45

I don’t like Katie Hopkins but her piss take of the new show is funny .

I think the whole focus on “strong women” and “role models” in their initial ideas just came across as dull and overly earnest. They seemed to forget that people watch things to be entertained as well as educated. The two are clearly not mutually exclusive, but it’s quite a difficult skill to pull off and I really don’t think they are capable of that

New here?

No, she’s been here before. I recognise her style.

She was a child abuser.

The Miss Haversham prequel has been done to death anyway; there was a novel a few years back and the BBC series, Dickensian. There's no amount of spin you can do on her character to justify the outcome as seen in Great Expectations. It was a ridiculous idea to make her a feminist hero, because, ultimately, it would have proven feminism as a failure because we all know how she ends up (through her own choices).

I doubt if Harry has ever even read the book.

Or even a book (all the way through).

I'm sure even Harry managed a couple of Topsey and Tim books. It's probably how he found out about pleb children.

Although not confirmed , it is being widely stated that Meghan wants the trailer pulled and redone .

Stable door, horse bolted. Show starts on the 15th. Any new trailer will get similar treatment. If true it just shows that she doesn’t understand the issue.

I was pretty pleased find that I could easily elevate the kids’ fishfinger sandwiches with a sprig of basil and by offering tartare as well as ketchup. Obviously they didn’t eat it and it created confusion rather than joy, but still, elevated.
Thanks Meghan.

I suppose she never had fish'n'chips in a pub when she was over here. She'd have learned that there's nothing especially elevated about tartare sauce. Although I don't suppose she serves hers in a plastic sachet that's impossible to open.

Edited

'Joy' and 'wonder' wouldn't be the reaction if I put basil leaves on my DC's fish fingers.

seen this in the CUT:

”Markle has been planning her return to Instagram for years now. Back in August 2022, she told the Cut, that she would soon be returning to the platform. (People points out that Markle’s new account was created in June 2022.)”

She never stops being disingenuous

She actually said she was thinking about returning then said towards the end of the interview that maybe she wouldn’t. But she had in fact set up an account months before.

Maybe she isn't a 'bankable star in her own right' though. She wasn't prior to marrying into the RF, so why would she be that now? The only thing that has changed is... she married into the RF.

There are hundreds (more?) of people making a living from acting, who aren't stars. Good for them. They make a living doing something they love, nothing wrong with that, and for every tv series or movie with a star there are many more people doing background or supporting roles and making it watchable. That's what Meghan did.

That doesn't make any of them a 'bankable star in their own right '.

Mylovelygreendress · 06/01/2025 09:51

Seriously, has Meghan ever had an original thought ?

Baital · 06/01/2025 09:55

Actually, I think that sums up the whole mess they have got themselves into.

Meghan wants to be a star in her own right. She isn't (very few of us are!) and rather than accept that has been blaming other people for the fact she doesn't have whatever is needed to become a 'star'.

She could have been a good supporting act in the RF, as she was in Suits. But she couldn't accept she would never be the 'star'.

It's a bit sad, really. She seems to be one of those people who will never be at peace with what they have, because someone else has more.

Thedom · 06/01/2025 09:58

😵she has to be one of the most prolific plagiarists of recent times.

Every time, no matter what the occasion is.

Baital · 06/01/2025 09:58

And let's face it, plenty of 'stars' have been fairly unpleasant individuals! I am not sure it is something to aspire to.

Wanting to make a living out of something you love, including the performing arts, or cooking, or presenting, that's great.

Wanting to be a 'star'?

That's a bit worrying.
