People are having a field day on Twitter posting their own version of Meghan’s recipes .

Funnily, this shows how hard rebranding is and why Meghan’s struggling: Twitter hasn’t been Twitter for 18 months.

It has been a great advert for Instagram, I barely use it but have been on several times since this has launched.

No, only 2 posts - the sand one and the preview video

Follower count 1.3m Gabriel Macht - Harvey in suits- currently has 3.4m

Thanks. I’m just curious to see if she actually continues to use social media after the show has launched 🤷‍♀️

When Meghan invited Willian and Kate ( the future King and Queen and potential in-laws) round for dinner to meet for the first time, she tells us she was barefoot and in ripped jeans. Her point was to put across she’s relaxed and they were formal and uptight. The symbolic difference them illustrated by her sartorial choices. It’s clear she was sending a message in that first meeting. Why didn’t she elevate her ordinary outfit to find the wonder in that first meeting?

It’s interesting comparing Meghan’s account of her first meeting with William and Kate to Harry’s account of her first meeting with Charles and Camilla (in Spare). He mentions she was wearing a full-skirted black dress with white flowers on it, her hair down and minimal makeup, which Harry notes he had suggested to her as he knew it would create a good impression with his Dad. He also discussed the necessary formalities with her - who she’d curtsey to, how she should address them etc.

An interesting contrast with the first meeting with William and Kate then, when Meghan and Harry seemingly hadn’t bothered to either communicate to their guests what the level of formality would be, or Harry hadn’t let Meghan know how their guests were likely to respond to the invitation. Meghan was in ripped jeans and barefoot and hugged Kate - then commented that her informality and warmth was obviously “jarring” for Kate.

We don’t of course know which meeting happened first. But the difference between them, as told to us directly by the couple, is fascinating.

Edited

One thing I have always wondered, and this is as good a place as any to ask, why mention any of this? Why mention what she was wearing? The comments about contrasting herself to Catherine do not make her look warm, they make her look judgy. Why not just say that meeting the family for the first time was a bit nerve wracking, everyone can relate to that.

Meghan seems to want to fit in wherever she is and hence the emphasis on clothes and authenticity. The problem is that the main feeling I get from her is strain and tryjng really hard. I hope this is successful because maybe then she can relax.

She was an actress, they do things like this. I'm not sure what the point is.

@MrsFinkelstein for focaccia I can recommend Nicola Lamb’s recipe from Sift. I made it for the first time this Christmas.. It takes three days but is gloriously bubbly

Panties? I’ve never met a woman who refers to pants or knickers as panties.

It's the American term.

Completely this. Meghan had a very successful career in a cut-throat industry before she met Harry (hundreds of young actresses would kill for a part on a successful, long-running cable show) and she had to play the misogynistic game of that industry to get there. Sneering at her now seems really pointless. I imagine she would rather not have taken these roles/opportunities, but they earned her a living.

Yes I’m not a fan but it is in general use in the US. It’s a bit twee for us Brits 😂

ETA I have the same reaction to “pantyhose”

itsstillmehere · 04/01/2025 11:19

@MrsLeonFarrell it shows her relentless determination.

Yes she has already done the bbq with Meghan episode.

That was for the men's magazine, wasn't it? Perhaps a different audience now! 😂

1.3 m followers

Obviously YouTube is different to instagram but I follow and love watching some Chinese and Japanese YouTubers.

One Japanese young woman posts a weekly video of her cooking, cleaning and tidying her flat, sometimes shopping or going to interesting locations. I find it strangely restful and enjoy her videos. She has 1.67m subscribers.

A popular Chinese young woman who posts cooking, village and family life, foraging and occasional craft has 11.4m subscribers.
Always many comments of love for her family, her elderly grandparents, her grandfather is so sweet, he said something about always being proud of whatever she does when she was trying a new recipe on him. Her videos include pigs being killed (she doesn't show the actual moment but you do her squealing 😱 with the whole village coming together to butcher, share, cook and feast on the animal. Seems totally authentic to me and I enjoy her videos.

Liziqi, another Chinese young woman who is incredibly artistic and talented has 22.8m subscribers. If you've ever wondered how to make a silk duvet starting with the silk worms 🐛 this is the channel to find out.

Here you are. It's beautiful. Another one who loves her grandmother, and takes such lovely care of her.

@Serenster she HAD to play these roles? Did she though? Was she forced? There are many famous actresses who didn't and Meghan wasn't really famous.

I would agree. It's a choice. Not every woman in that industry chooses those kind of roles, or to promote themselves like this. She was an adult who made decisions about what jobs she took.

Vitriolinsanity · 04/01/2025 11:30

To be fair, she only had to draw 2025 twice on the beach and and the internet sizzled.

All publicity...

LeavesOnTrees · 04/01/2025 11:31

At the end of the day, irrespective of bump, cradling, barefeet, posh dresses or bullying claims, the show needs to be entertaining.

Quite a few of the women on shows like Real Housewives of Beverly Hills or Selling Sunset are awful, but they seem to know it and play to that character.

Meghan has spent the last few years being a total mean girl about the Royal Family and the British public in general and now expects us to 'find joy' in what ever she does. It ain't gonna work. We never take to celebrities taking themselves too seriously. Not sure about the US.

I always felt she was disappointed the Royal Family didn't lock her in a dungeon, feeding her stale bread and water, so she would really have had something to complain about.

😁

Is any of it cooking though? Ice cream and jam, a basic sponge, things on bread, a hummus platter. I’d be interested to know how complex or how much actual cooking is involved. I’ll have to wait for on here though as I won’t be watching.

Edited

I think it will be very basic - that's why it's majoring on "joy" not "perfection"

Or put another way, style over substance

I agree that when she appears she generates publicity. The problem as I see it is that there is then nothing behind the initial frenzy. Everything seems to fizzle out immediately. That’s why I was wondering if she was following up with anything else on instagram. It’s like with the ARO video. Massive fanfare and then…nada. I know this time it’s to promote the cooking series but I’m not sure a couple of posts will cut it

HunterdeButts · 04/01/2025 11:34

Hmm, I don't think women starting out in acting taking parts that subjugate them should be sneered at, although it's a "luxury" profession nobody is forced to enter; and I am pretty sure most females entering it know what will be expected of them in terms of the roles they may end up portraying on screen(not behind the scenes misogynistic behaviour of course). That said, she's been held up by her supporters like Scobie as some kind of feminist icon - in contrast to Catherine, mainly, and the latter's choices in life; when the acting path she has chosen - TV, film, sexy girl roles, rather than theatre or a character part where she might not be the most attractive person on the screen - are, in fact, her choices, not forced choices. And she has complained herself about being made to feel like an object on Deal Or No Deal, but this did not stop her going for further objectifying roles, including her role as Rachel Zane, where much of the time (her average 2.5 mins per episode over 7 seasons) she was also objectified. I think there's a big difference between the women who regard acting as a craft and a vocation first and foremost, with fame as a bi-product, and those that are there predominantly to become stars and famous.

PoppysAunt · 04/01/2025 11:38

I think you're right, @HunterdeButts because there are women who want to get into acting, taking stage roles and honing their craft, doing bar and waitress work to supplement their income. The kind of roles you take is up to you. That's not "sneering" at the choices, that's just how it is.

I never knew she was School President or Homecoming Queen. Didn’t she make out she was a loner at school, never had anyone to sit next to on her Podcast. How does that person become Homecoming Queen? She’s also described as very popular at school in the article.

She constantly puts out different versions of herself. It’s hard to keep up but also a little disturbing

Inside Meghan Markle's 'indulgent' relationship with her father

She is now well versed in making demands and getting what she wants in life, from her $14.7million mansion in California to her staggering wardrobe full of designer labels

Persisting in calling it twitter isn't because of the rebrand per se

It's a deliberate two fingers to the US oligarch

It's not that difficult to create a transient buzz on social media.

Converting that into sustained interest and engagement is another matter.
