I Highly doubt privately educated and Dartmouth Graduate Mindi who won two SAG awards a Tony awards and six Emmy nomination
finds eating sponge cake made by a Supporting actress in a rented house as the most glamours moment of her life, it must be the way the trailer was edited. Which is even worse , to project that a highly accomplished woman most glamours moment is eating cake by a duchess through marriage.

'The women are human shields for the King and Prince of Wales, who hide behind them and say nothing while their partners are being abused. Presumably to avoid getting pasted themselves.'

Nope. The King and Prince William have had plenty of adverse press. The rf mantra' never complain never explain' is sensible - if they don't respond it doesn't fuel the fire further - there's no point in a response against some of the ridiculous stories - they respond and the more batshit amongst us start with the conspiracy theories. William and Catherine particularly have behaved with steady grace.

Harry and Meghan have responded, often. Has it helped? If anything, it's made things much worse.

SM particularly is uncontrollable - you only have to look at some of the threads on here early last year when Catherine was away from public view. But there's little point in a response because those committed to conspiracy and batshittery will just ramp up the rhetoric anyway.

I've just hears West Streeting's response to Elon Musk, defending Jess Phillips. Will it help diffuse Musk's mischief making? Of course not - it'll just descend into tit for tat, ramp up the frothing and give Musk even more unjustified publicity.

Our tabloid media is aggressive, nasty and sexist.

The Queen, PoW, her mother and sister, and MM should never have had to put up with their disgraceful, continuous attacks in decades of abuse.

The women are human shields for the King and Prince of Wales, who hide behind them and say nothing while their partners are being abused. Presumably to avoid getting pasted themselves.

It is a devastating price of entry, with humiliation at its core.

MM seems to have decided that the price is too high.

72 MPs agreed with her.

I do not think our tabloid media is something we should ever be proud of.

For a long time the Monarch was a woman.

Charles and William get far more stick from the press than the Late Queen ever did.

Very good point which is applicable in many cases.
For example, on MN. Random little posts have started being dropped here again along the lines of "I've never seen so much hate for one woman" or "These people must be ill".
They don't require an answer, they're just statements. Probably best just to think "Well, you obviously don't get out much, love" and scroll past.

sillysausage92 · 05/01/2025 11:32

Here is my two pence worth, I don't hate her and I don't love her. I'm curious and haven't made up my mind. I haven't seen enough of her to make up my mind. I see a lot of what the media has created in people's opinions and interpretations of what she does which could be looked at in different ways. I'm going to watch and hopefully form more of a solid opinion about her.

I'm sorry that reading isn't your strong suit. I'm an American, as I have plainly explained, so "here" is the US, Florida to be exact. Like California, it is not a place known for its afternoon tea culture, nor for its Victoria sponge cakes.

As for hate, I hate no one. I do, however, hold Markle in extreme contempt for walking in front of wounded veterans at Invictus in Germany. As a retired American military officer I take personal offense at her unmitigated gall, her disgusting hubris as, malignant narcissism on full display, she walked in front of wounded combat veterans in short shorts with a "look at me" shit-eating grin. It WASN'T ABOUT HER. She should be ashamed, but I don't think she has it in her.

This is what the fans do unfortunately. Anyone who expresses an opinion that differs from their adulation of her is either a hater, deluded, racist, Karen and so forth. They just aren’t capable of a rational conversation.

Bachboo · 05/01/2025 11:55

TulipTiptoer · 04/01/2025 21:54

Well said. Anyone who doesn't revile Meghan is a member of the Sussex squad. And so many people are, as you say, just ordinary women who have a different opinion and feel the constant denigration of another woman is wrong.
I won't be boxed in and called that.

But this is what her fans do. They have wished death, strokes visits to mental institutions, curses and Gods vengeance on those who disagree with them. Please do not insults people’s intelligence by pretending they don’t do it. Don’t forget they are the ones who started the “Where’s Kate”

I am just fascinated by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. I can honestly say that in seven decades of walking the earth, I have never come across anyone quite like her ( or maybe I should say, as she seems to be). 39 pages seem to indicate I am not alone.

I think most women have come across other women like Camilla, or Sophie, or Beatrice or even Kate. Most of us have come across Jess Phillips and Lady Thornberry, yes, even Jill Biden. Not exactly like them, of course (‘ yes, we are all individuals’) but as types or patterns, they are recognisable .

But Meghan is something quite unique, I don’t think anyone understands her even glancingly. Those threads where people have to say whom they would like to meet , and people say Elizabeth 1, or Joan of Arc, or Mary Magdalene or Anne Hathaway….I would choose Meghan. I would just like to be in the same room and look into her eyes, and see what dances there.

This is the impression I got from the journalist at The Cut. She could tell that she was quite clearly putting on a facade but kept seeing glimpses of her true personality beneath, and I don’t think she liked either. Especially with the 'The Bachelor producer in her head' and the 'gutteral noises' interpretation comments. I would love to take a peek inside of her head and see what makes her tick.

Yet funnily enough, these same posters were not posting in the same outrage on the vast amount of threads bullying Catherine last year…..those threads were the worst I have ever seen on this platform.

really
yes they were bad, but nothing compared to the vast amounts of threads ripping Meghan apart.

It’s good to hear that you acknowledge that they were bad @Samcro thanks for that. I also acknowledge that you weren’t one of the offenders.

Absolutely this. People have lost their jobs and have had death threats from her fans. Charities have been besieged. They are completely unhinged.

This is what Kathleen Stock said in todays Times:

“..has there ever been a person so obviously prone to ruthless control-freakery about every aspect of self-presentation, while purporting to be natural, candid and “real”, as Meghan?”

Ha, yeah, anyone who is for a moment fooled by the pretence that Mumsnet is a hotbed of anti-Meghan should spend a minute reading the comments on YouTube.

What are they saying???

sillysausage92 - if you are concerned about media perceptions influencing you (fair enough!) you could always, as many of us have done, listen to what Meghan has told us at length and directly in her engagement interview, her Vanity Fair interview, Oprah, a six part Netflix documentary, the many hours of Archetypes podcasts, speeches at the awards she has picked up, the magazine interviews she has done in The Cut and Variety, the interview with Tom Bradby, the Ellen DeGeneres show, her panel appearances at various events (most recently SWSX). Plus what’s been disclosed in her court case and said in evidence in that proceeding. Now there will of course be “With Love, Meghan” to add to the list.

And then there’s all the things Meghan wants us to know via Harry in Spare, The Me You Can’t See, his Dax Shephard podcast, and his tv interviews to promote Spare, and all his court cases. Not to mention via Omid Scobie in Finding Freedom, Endgame and all his other content.

If you are interested in source material, there has been more than enough of coverage of Meghan herself, in her own words, for you to form a solid opinion I am sure.

Serenster · 05/01/2025 12:18

There are still Meghan supporters who discount Catherine’s serious illness.

There are still Meghan supporters who are convinced that she was so badly beaten up by William in late 2023 that she was near-death and now sports a scar on her face where she was injured, and that William was implicated in Thomas Kingston’s death, and that this is all connected his attack on Kate. Remind me again how us looking at Meghan’s trailer for her cooking show and thinking it looks pretty rubbish is so bad…?

This is what really annoys me in that the fans always screech it’s the British media when in fact it’s world wide media who discuss the pairs behaviour and latest antics and that includes the US. If you think the Uk press is bad try looking at Australia’s media.

This is all you are able to see unless you know them personally. The media report on the facts and there are many columnists who comment on things like the Netflix shows. Yes people will speculate but the baseline in my opinion is when it is proven that someone has lied and has spoken publicly about people in that manner. Both Harry and Meghan have lied about things, have disparaged various people publicly but expect to be taken seriously as some kind of mental health family loving experts. It just doesn't gel and many people see that.

itsstillmehere · 05/01/2025 12:29

@serenster the sources you refer to are by Meghan herself. This is like saying judge Fred West by reading his book on house renovation.

"Why don’t they ever have a tall blonde Swedish model friend saying “this is the most glamorous moment of my life, you’re amazing, so amazing”. I find it such cliche’."

I'm confused, why would the above improve the show or make it more relatable?

It wouldn’t, I am saying that Mindi is slightly overweight and and ethnic. I don’t feel like I’m being racist, I think I’m an Italian Mindi and relate.

It’s always the slightly overweight ethnic girl or frizzy hair and not a model, playing the doting, fan girling best friend and I find it patronising & a cliche’.

I used the example of a tall thin, Swedish blonde but it could be anyone that’s conventionally attractive or just very slim and takes themselves seriously, eg Pippa Middleton. They’d never be caught dead telling someone it was the most glamorous moment of their lives and sycophantically Fan girling.
