Nooooo. The media would criticise every part of HER house. They can’t criticise this one, so they’re criticising the fact she hasnt filmed in her own (and the cost of everything), and you agree with them - ‘just not hers obviously’

We’ve seen her kitchen though.

She has it on her NF docu and her ARO video. I never seen criticism of her kitchen.

What on earth are you talking about??

Aspargar · 03/01/2025 09:48

TheJackalsJackal · 03/01/2025 09:44

You mean they explained their decisions due to their experiences, nobody from the RF responded, and because of our views of the RF due to the media painting them as nothing but rosy perfection, H&M are lying and an embarrassment to us all?

😂

Good try

Mumber · 03/01/2025 09:49

That house is stunning! The views are just to die for. Lucky buggers, whoever owns it.

CheeseandMarmiteToastie · 03/01/2025 09:53

Nigella is a professional cook/chef with years of experience, she's hardly a posh lady playing at it. Meghan on the other hand seems to think she can be a chef, writer, activist, influencer and whatever else she fancies without any qualification or much effort. As someone else said it's no different to the Love Island/reality TV lot.

Bachboo · 03/01/2025 09:56

Bontonbonbon · 03/01/2025 08:02

@Spectre8 Oh, I see. You are preemptively checking whether people are qualified to critique your idol.

Just have a logic check on that. You are only going to allow critiques on the show from people who watched all of it. Thus limiting you to the small pool of people who watch the whole thing to talk to. That’s the very definition on an echo chamber. Perhaps this is why the die hards on here seem so detached from reality.

Remember that the victory Meghan seeks is a groundswell of public adoration, money and success. Which doesn’t come from the same tiny band of fans driving away anyone who might engage with the content.

I would take posters like this seriously if they could admit any wrong doing at all on the part of the Sussexes. But that would involve engaging with reality.

I could not love this any more than I do

Uricon2 · 03/01/2025 09:56

I think if they had left, not made the Oprah thing/Spare (etc) but had gone pretty much straight in to this sort of programme, it would all feel rather different. In fairness, leaving as the pandemic hit (something noone could have foreseen) limited their options but there has been so much damage done now that it feels rather off, all the wholesome joy.

There's nothing in the trailer that is standout from a great many other lifestyle shows or Youtube/instagram channels, it's a swamped market. Of course the whole thing might be different but success is still going to be predicated on how Meghan comes across and if people like her, because that's the nature of this sort of programme. The backstory doesn't help I don't think, beyond generating initial interest and is very much a double edged sword.

It's a hard place to be in because that lifestyle needs funding somehow and nothing else either of them has tried has been a runaway success.

Do you know her personally? Has she actively hurt you in some way?

I am honestly baffled how people can hear something about someone in the media, and decide it’s gospel truth.

At every turn one celeb or another explains how the media manage to do xyz however nobody on MN it seems believes it.

I couldn’t give a shit if it’s MM or Jamie Oliver, the show looks good so I’ll check it out. If it’s not great, I won’t watch any more. Surely that’s how it works?! We don’t avoid it because she’s apparently the devil?

do we all watch movies Weinstein was involved in? Yup. Are we endorsing his (un refuted) bad behaviour?

I don’t need to know her personally. I’m not sure what you think I’ve heard in the media and taken as gospel truth.

I have seen the OW interview and read the transcript, several times, including recently (always good to go back to first principles and check your sources for accuracy).

I watched the Netflix documentary in which she ridiculed the traditions of the British monarchy.

I followed the stages of Megxit including their own statement on the Sussex Royal website.

I have seen the coverage of the numerous court cases involving them both, and read the court papers which are in the public domain.

Don’t assume that because you’re late to the game and rely on superficial coverage from dubious sources that the same applies to everyone.

Marchioness of Bath then? Someone has talked about her cooking show on here. She's hugely wealthy

I don't think either of them think they can be 'a chef' . That takes years of training and is not what either Marchioness Emma or Meghan think they are. They have never purported to be.

Ohpleeeease · 03/01/2025 09:59

WinterCrow · 03/01/2025 09:43

I am honestly baffled how people can hear something about someone in the media, and decide it’s gospel truth.

Harry & Meghan over-exposed themselves, though. People are forming their views based on H&M's own words in the interviews with Oprah Winfrey, Tom Bradby, Anderson Cooper, Andrew Sorkin, Jane Pauley etc; the whole of the Netflix series; Spare; and various other magazine interviews (taped), TV appearances (on record), and 'red carpet' interviews.

So people have a great deal to mull over that are primary sources, not merely the secondary and tertiary sources you imply.

Thank you for this, @WinterCrow , I replied before seeing your post. You put it better than me.

Igavebirthtoabanana · 03/01/2025 09:59

Meghan is very groomed but it’s all just gloss, there’s nothing behind it. No personality and no warmth. All the giggling and hand clapping in the clip just comes across as “I’m just so adorable, aren’t I”.

I do like a cooking show so will give it a chance but seeing limp fish served on a bed of spinach doesn’t exactly excite me. Victoria sponge is also the most boring cake in my books. If it’s the only thing on offer, I would just have the cup of tea. Red velvet cake on the other hand…,

I also dislike all that long hair hanging over the food.

A gray area would allow for some criticism of said person. I only find a poster suspicious/ ridiculous when they cannot even admit that the person in question has flaws or is anything less than perfect.

I’m not interested in the gate keeping by the super fans but let’s have an end to accusations of meanness, misogyny and bullying just because we see the flaws that you won’t admit exist.

I don't see any forum rules saying you need to make some sort of statement about someone so you aren't seen as suspicious.

There is no perfect person although lots of peolle strive to be. Everyone has their own flaws. I don't feel I need to go round pointing out people's flaws, whether its in real life or on a forum unless the person is directly asking me a question or for advice.

By saying you find people suspicious for not admitting someon has flaws or saying anything to thay effect.. what is this school? If you don't do it you don't fit in and you'll be labelled a superfan.

Aspargar · 03/01/2025 10:10

Not only have we all over consumed cooking shows the last 25 years, but the world is changing.

Many get their recipes from SM and new formats like the Waitrose podcast are getting people interested.

This over stylised format seems old fashioned. Particularly because it’s not in her own home, so it’s literally staged. Will always feel fake.

Everything today is supposed to be about authenticity…but when you hear at the end of the video that with the dog snoring, ‘it’s going to be a peaceful day’ …you just think too right it will, you don’t have two kids running about at home because your filming in someone else’s family home!

Aspargar · 03/01/2025 09:35

I think her dislike of the UK stretches more than just Andrew.

It was the racist RF, the racist British press and the British who consumed the racist headlines. She had to escape on a freedom flight remember?

Now she’s appropriating a custom of a country that she feels she can’t return to because it’s so dangerous for her.

So yes, the bloody cheek of it

I'm not a Meghan fan, but that is scraping the barrel of reasons to criticise her. Many headlines were racist and many people, particularly DM readers, are racist.

She left the country and mostly cut ties with the family, but to criticise her for preparing an afternoon tea is bonkers. Presumably that is just one "dish" in the programme, along with other food?

pilates · 03/01/2025 10:21

We get many of our recipes from TikTok. Would recommend; short and sweet and very tasty.

I think this is a real problem- attention span has changed. I used to love reading cookery books but now I've charity shopped them all as I no longer have the desire to look through - much quicker to go to the internet.

Aspargar · 03/01/2025 10:24

Same issue she had with her podcast.

Over produced. over stylised, complete sanitised, with a huge team behind it to get it moving.

Joe Rogan (and I’m sure there will be lots of thoughts on him!, this is no endorsement) is partly so successful because he has very few staff, just speaks as he sees it etc. It’s not over produced. That’s what people want in a podcast …the feeling we don’t know where the conversation will take us.

We always knew the outcome of every conversation with Meghan. Who incidentally put on a whispery voice and didn’t have the vocal fry! Again changing who she is for the sound she wants for the podcast.

It’s the same with the tv show, over produced.

I know she has a lot resting on it and I get why that’s been the approach, but it was a disaster for her podcast. She needed to strip it down and not make something so grand. People won’t connect with her.

Millions read the DM online. So that makes millions of Britons racists then? Right

Criticism for eating avocados
Wearing one shouldered dress
Cradling her bump
Wearing nail varnish

All of these were things that Kate did (not sure if she eats avocados tbf) but only the non white woman was criticised for it.

Population of 68m so, yeah, I would say so.

Marcipex · 03/01/2025 10:31

Well, she runs about laughing or hiccuping, I'm not sure which, past multiple 2025s in the sand.
I like white jeans and white shirt though.

All it says to me is that Meghan went to the beach. I don't think it evokes anything else.

By having an afternoon tea??

I love Middle Eastern food, doesn't mean I'm going to go and live in Saudi or Iran.

I'm agnostic about Meghan, unlikely to watch the show as it looks overly stylised and, despite being British, I think afternoon tea is boring as fuck. But really odd to criticise her for that.
