A gray area would allow for some criticism of said person. I only find a poster suspicious/ ridiculous when they cannot even admit that the person in question has flaws or is anything less than perfect.

I’m not interested in the gate keeping by the super fans but let’s have an end to accusations of meanness, misogyny and bullying just because we see the flaws that you won’t admit exist.

She isnt my idol but then again just be cause I don't come here and say nasty things about her you automatically assume that

It's very strange, there is no gray area @Spectre8 . If you don't ridicule or trash her you are labelled as a super fan or she's your idol. A person can find her faintly annoying, neither like or dislike, but also think she doesn't deserve hundreds of posts trashing her...that doesn't make her my idol. Gray area it is, everyone has to loathe her, them's the rules! Apparently.

There are a few who are determined to divide everyone in to ‘teams’

But I think you’ll find that most posters here do not conform to that. And even occasionally post about how fostering artificial division is unhelpful

38 posts overnight?……well I know what to expect to here

How do you know what I find irritating or wrong about her. You don't. Boy oh boy, she's made some mistakes. She can be irritating. She has flaws. She certainly isn't perfect!!! They have both made mistakes. I am not a super fan but conversely I don't loathe her.

Weird you seem to think you know what I think about her flaws. Doing this Netflix series isn't one of them. Good luck to her. You just can't stand any positivity at all. So ...no different to me, but the other side of the coin, you don't allow for any positivity at all. Everything she does is awful in your eyes.

That those in other time zones will continue to post when they’re awake ?

Most of these ‘over night’ posts are in perfectly unexceptional afternoon/evening times in California,

Oh my gosh. The vocal fry!!!!!!

Thank you! I’ve been commenting on this for a while, her voice has a really unpleasant rasping quality these days. I could never understand it when people said she had a lovely voice.

RedRosesPinkLilies · 03/01/2025 09:03

For me, it’s that cookery shows are ten a penny, and the concept is getting boring. I switched off the new Jamie Oliver Christmas Cookery show the other day - and it’s a remarkably similar concept with a man that can actually cook.
I will likely watch the first show, just because it’s there, but I don’t expect to see much that draws me back. That’s purely because these shows are done to death.

Aspargar · 03/01/2025 09:06

BemusedAmerican · 03/01/2025 04:21

I cancelled my Netflix subscription yesterday and am picking up Britbox with the money I saved. Nothing to watch. This is no incentive.
BTW, the title reminds me of "Love, Nina".

Adults don't have balloons at their parties. Only kids. Even tea parties.

In the US, we frost the sides of our cakes and not just the tops.

Over the past year, people on this forum gave out loads of marketing and PR advice. I hope Meghan's PR interns appreciate the help.

Also, from what I’ve seen of American baking shows, and tell me if I’m wrong, but American sponge cakes tend to have thicker frosting layers and on the outside too? I always see different types of frosting too. Italian meringue, cream cheese etc in the most amazing flavour combos

Our cakes are less like a dessert, more a simple bite to eat while you have a cuppa. So you would eat with your hand - so needs to firm and not be covered in soft icing

Her cake does look british in style

Bontonbonbon · 03/01/2025 09:08

I dislike her. I’ve already said that quite clearly. I have already said that this new positive direction is an improvement for her and I wish she’d started this way from the beginning. They have either been really badly advised or have ignored good advice. I wish her luck in this, as long as it isn’t used as another boot to kick at the RF. It would be nice to see her do a series where she doesn’t play on her hated royal connections and use her title. Let’s see if it is free from the usual digs about how much she knows and not having signed a NDA.

So, no. I am not totally negative. In and ideal world both she and Harry would be able to come to some sort of peace with their families and actively be working for good and not just PR.

Yes, that was my point

Mylovelygreendress · 03/01/2025 09:18

I see Jan Moir is also likening the beach scene to a Tampax ( other forms of feminine hygiene products available) advert !

Vespanest · 03/01/2025 09:19

For Meghan this isn't the BBC test running a new chef/cook or Netflix taking a punt on a new show. This is a 100 million contract to two individuals who have yet to prove that they have star pulling power other than talking about the royal family. I don't think Netflix have done great promotion, self grandiose is not great and a lot could have been learnt from the beckhams in mixing privilege and relatability and the Brooklyn Beckham style of how not to do it. The proof will be in the pudding and the more viewing statistics rather than newspaper unsavoury click bait is needed. According to areas of social media Polo was brilliant or a shit show the reality in the real world it was a damp squib.

The absolute cheek of it….

She runs from Britain, from the racist RF, racist press and backward Britons…..and then appropriates English afternoon tea for her tv show!

You just know she’s gonna mention the Queen and her afternoon tea ritual

This made me laugh. "You don't like the royal family (not least the peado bloke) so how dare you enjoy an afternoon tea"

😂😂

Mumsnet is batshit sometimes.

Ohpleeeease · 03/01/2025 09:26

I admire posters who are generous enough to wish her success. I don’t generally engage in criticism based on personal comments and I’ve no interest in her marriage or children. I just can’t see her as deserving of success however, and as long as people endorse her behaviour she won’t change.

Do you know her personally? Has she actively hurt you in some way?

I am honestly baffled how people can hear something about someone in the media, and decide it’s gospel truth.

At every turn one celeb or another explains how the media manage to do xyz however nobody on MN it seems believes it.

I couldn’t give a shit if it’s MM or Jamie Oliver, the show looks good so I’ll check it out. If it’s not great, I won’t watch any more. Surely that’s how it works?! We don’t avoid it because she’s apparently the devil?

do we all watch movies Weinstein was involved in? Yup. Are we endorsing his (un refuted) bad behaviour?

Mumsnet is batshit sometimes.

I think her dislike of the UK stretches more than just Andrew.

It was the racist RF, the racist British press and the British who consumed the racist headlines. She had to escape on a freedom flight remember?

Now she’s appropriating a custom of a country that she feels she can’t return to because it’s so dangerous for her.

So yes, the bloody cheek of it

I wouldn’t film in my house either. The vultures will be criticising every tiny part of it, just like they are with the rented one. And people like you think that’s ok!

pilates · 03/01/2025 09:37

Do people actually want to watch a rich woman playing at baking in the kitchen. It’s beyond boring.

I’ve not criticised any part of the house, never mind every tiny part ????

I literally said it’s a nice house

I am honestly baffled how people can hear something about someone in the media, and decide it’s gospel truth.

Harry & Meghan over-exposed themselves, though. People are forming their views based on H&M's own words in the interviews with Oprah Winfrey, Tom Bradby, Anderson Cooper, Andrew Sorkin, Jane Pauley etc; the whole of the Netflix series; Spare; and various other magazine interviews (taped), TV appearances (on record), and 'red carpet' interviews.

So people have a great deal to mull over that are primary sources, not merely the secondary and tertiary sources you imply.

TheJackalsJackal · 03/01/2025 09:43

Nooooo. The media would criticise every part of HER house. They can’t criticise this one, so they’re criticising the fact she hasnt filmed in her own (and the cost of everything), and you agree with them - ‘just not hers obviously’

Yet many tune in to the likes of Nigella. And others.

Watching it is not obligatory! I will catch a bit of it, not sure on all of it, because I only watch a couple of favourite cooking shows, and I'm inconsistent with that!

You mean they explained their decisions due to their experiences, nobody from the RF responded, and because of our views of the RF due to the media painting them as nothing but rosy perfection, H&M are lying and an embarrassment to us all?
