@User776532 agree. However, Victoria Beckham (fab eyeliners, best I've ever used) and Taylor Swift actually have products/talent that are marketable.

I think without a real background in food/interior design/A list guests /a viable and accessible product people will want to buy (I'd have thought this crucial) this sort of programme seems a bit empty. Even at his most ranty and entertaining best, noone can say *Gordon Ramsay doesn't know what he's doing. I am going to watch though, although I think the concept itself is flawed.

*Wonder if that's what she meant by the lulls in swearing thing ?Grin That could....work...

Snorlaxo · 02/01/2025 19:35

I thought that we wouldn’t see this series but happy to be proven wrong. I won’t be watching but I’m sure that it won’t be long until the memes appear on SM.

Like pp I expected a November release in time for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The hair flicking and some of the camera angles made me think of Nigella (some of her programmes involve her popping into a deli for an ingredient )

It’s a shame that it wasn’t filmed in their actual kitchen because I would have watched for that reason.

Except I don't think escapism works here because she's a real person. Fictional series are fun because people know it's scripted and they can secretly project themselves as the protagonist, hence the escapism. Real wealthy people showing off their real wealthy lives don't work as escapism at all because you cannot put yourself into their shoes. I know I'm not Meghan just like I'm not Victoria Beckham or Taylor Swift. Fantasising about becoming them just feels awkward and a bit desperate.

Exactly. People like Gwyneth ($800 candle) succeed because she knows we’re laughing at her idea on our couches and she’s hamming it up. She’s not lying, she knows she’s preposterous and she’s going with it. How many people have seriously bought her vagina candle other than as a joke gift?

Same with Ina “good quality butter” Garten, or Martha Stewart or Nigella who drop in the occasional “oh who can be bothered, just use the same bloody spoon/ any old olive oil will do”. They’re with the viewer, totally accepting their crapness in various regards - because they have other things that nobody else has which are the real reason people watch them.

You can’t do that as a duchess, or indeed as Meghan Markle who has gone on record so many times preaching the opposite of what she’s going to practice on TV, and who has yet to give evidence of unique talent. It’s hypocritical.

I don't understand Netflix timing, the whole of December when food and socialising is a must, is ignored for a January airing when the opposite and many are food and friend fatigued

And on diets 😂

TERFspice · 02/01/2025 19:40

I thought Meghan was vegan? Looks like she's cooking fish in one of her clips?

Serenster · 02/01/2025 19:40

And who considers a bog standard sponge cake 'the most glamorous moment of their lives'? I'm no 'celebrity' but I've had much more glamorous moments than that!

That would be the Mindy Kaling who attended a State banquet at the White House for French President Francois Hollande a few years ago, and posted on instagram about it? It must have slipped her mind.🤣

Honestly, this kind of stuff is why I don’t watch this type of show. Meghan’s friend Mindy, who has appeared on her podcast and posted a picture of one of Meghan’s numbered jars of jam, now turns up on her lifestyle show to be featured gushing some over the top praise like this while Meghan acts ever so humble and “Aw, shucks, me?!” as she shows us in the trailer. Ugh…

I thought she was flexitarian ?

CheeseandMarmiteToastie · 02/01/2025 19:46

The Brooklyn Beckham comparison is spot on, what qualifies her to have a cooking show all of a sudden?

I found the trailer pretty sickly and I do think her lack of authenticity will be a problem - she can’t just pretend to have this wonderful, wholesome life when her recent past has been played out in the tabloids and she hasn’t come out of it well.

Sunworshiper · 02/01/2025 19:49

My favorite comments so far for the trailer. 😅

She's so relatable. I, too, forget to put my Cartier tank watch, Cartier slave bracelet, and blood diamond Pinky ring gifted me by the Saudi Royal family back in the vault before I cook. She really is every woman.

This looks horrifically bad. It appears pretentious, contrived and just so, so fake. It seems especially bad when she claims that she wants to "surprise people with moments that let them know I was really thinking of them." Like when she went on Oprah and Netflix and told the entire world how much she hated her husband's family and called them all the "r" word? Like that? Yeah, the truth is she wants people to be thinking about HER as that's her entire motivation, as displayed by the title of the series, which is cringe inducing and so narcissistic, "With Love, Meghan." Could she be more self-obsessed?

I can’t decide which is worse, her making food with a cardigan tied over her shoulders to look very Stepford housewife or wearing an all-white outfit while she’s cooking. The only person who wears all white while cooking is someone who doesn’t actually wash their own clothes.

Clapping like a seal for putting flowers in ice cubes seems about par for the course ...to much i can’t believe its cheese routine lol

I love how all of her "friends" have to stand around (in full glam) and literally admire her while she makes them something to eat. Also, most of us plebs don't have an organic vegetable garden, or ripe Monterey strawberries to puree in crystal goblets, or access to a honeybee hive, or clarified ice machines in which to embed edible flowers, or friends to stand around and poke their well manicured nails into the rosemary focaccia dough. We also don't have time to make cherry tomatoes look like ladybugs that have landed on a toasted crostini. At least Joanna Gaines keeps it real by keeping the food relatable, and actually sharing it with her real family. Like, seriously Netflix? This is going to be tragic

Snorlaxo · 02/01/2025 19:53

I think that they should have gone for the more believable “this is what our family like to eat angle” They wouldn’t have to feature the kids but they could push gentle content like” these are the home made fish fingers that we like to eat” sort of thing to audiences that won’t know what fish ringers are..
Harry cooking something for the family in an episode would attract attention but I guess it goes against the separate projects angle that they are going for.

Serenster · 02/01/2025 19:53

They are very cute, to be fair! Not original, though - the idea has been around for many years.

motheronthedancefloor · 02/01/2025 19:57

I won't be watching because a, I don't like M&H b, I'm not a great cook c, I probably couldn't buy many of the ingredients or get a hold of the recipes

Bit daft to have the dogs in the trailer like its her own house when we know it isn't. I also note that she's saying 'Meghan', not the Duchess of Sussex - is there some kind of rule about what her title can be linked to?

Thedom · 02/01/2025 19:59

Another witty comment

"Everyone's invited" .... except her family

"Everyone's invited" ..... wedding guest list again

Uricon2 · 02/01/2025 20:00

The ladybird canapes irresitibly remind me of one of Mum's dishes for our birthday parties as kids.

Base of green jelly, tinned pear halves with flaked almond ears and whiskers, currant eyes and liquorice tails.

Erm, Netflix? Waves.

Bontonbonbon · 02/01/2025 20:03

So there are a few things going on here:

  1. Timing: whatever people might say about cold vs sun and escapism January is really not the time for cooking content. People are looking to save money/ lose weight and plan holidays. Not give inspiring feasts for friends. It is a weird timing from Netflix, which suggests they don’t believe in the concept.

  2. The strap line is odd. Wonder is quite a strange word to pick for a high end cooking/lifestyle show. There’s something really theatrical and fake about it that won’t help shake the accusations M attracts for being false.

  3. Another timing issues in regards to current food prices in the US. It does make her seem tone deaf and out of touch ‘Hollywood Elite’ to be pushing a luxury cooking show just as Trump is winding up for a trade war. She can’t help the timing but it is extremely unfortunate.

  4. The clothes (again). I get that lifestyle is a huge part of her brand but it is not going to help her any of the whole show is her in a series of expensive designer dresses. It only worked for Paris Hilton because it was so tongue in cheek. Ditto Emily in Paris (for the poster who brought that up). Almost all shows that do lifestyle now are quite knowing. Even the Kardashians have toned down the in your face lux recently. I reckon this will come back to bite her quite quickly.

  5. I’m glad she has something light. If she’s just done this first and skipped all the interviews and accusations then it probably would have been a success. But I for one will never forgive her for calling my entire country backward and racist just because she wasn’t allowed to merchandise her royal connections. The two years of spite from them will take a long time to fade from your memory. Absolutely vile behaviour.

Vespanest · 02/01/2025 20:04

this was done to run alongside ARO with hindsight I think she would have had a better run with the cooking with refugees/immigrants and the work she does with Archewell. It would have been different and slightly harder to criticise. I do not think she has the fan base for this. Have a feeling this is going to backfire, at least Harry made the right call at hardly including himself in Polo.

Those are cute!

Looking at the trailer on You Tube, it looks very basic cooking dressed up as fancy. Nobody entertains in January so it feels very off. I was pleased to see it drops after the PoW birthday.

I did a scan of my Netflix to see if they are pushing this. Absolutely nothing. Not in the coming in January bit. Polo has completely disappeared.

Dog biscuits 🐶

Fluffyholeysocks · 02/01/2025 18:42

What is her 'signature style'? - why is she so deserving of a cooking/lifestyle show? Is it her cooking skills? Her background in running a Michelin star restaurant?
I don't see a 'strong brand' - to me they are trying too many things they have no expertise/flair/talent for. She's tried acting, writing, jam making, podcasts - now it's cooking. What next wine making?

Didn’t Harry say she could make her own clothes ? So maybe Sewing With The Duchess ?

Didn't she tell us she was made to wear drab beige when she was a working Royal and hated it?

It is a weird timing from Netflix, which suggests they don’t believe in the concept.

If it's as appalling as posts here indicate (haven't seen it yet but off to hunt it out) it- along with 'Polo' - suggests as I've always said NF are running down time on the original contract with any old content.

Princessfluffy · 02/01/2025 20:55

Megha cringe
The trailer was vacuous, inauthentic and dull enough for me.
Which is a win for Meghan as I didn't even watch a trailer for Harry's Polo - if there even was one?

And some of the clips look like she is hosting a very quintessential English Garden party, wearing a floral dress (which is very pretty), table set with bone china, candelabra and cutesy scalloped edge table linen, even the kitchen in the show looks like a classic English kitchen .

Where is the easy California vibe she is supposedly known for? it's all a bit Laura Ashley / Kath Kidston, english country cottage.
