I don't understand Netflix timing, the whole of December when food and socialising is a must, is ignored for a January airing when the opposite and many are food and friend fatigued

BasiliskStare · 02/01/2025 19:08

So 2 things

  1. criticism of Meghan I reckon is not being mean girls - she really has put herself out there by telling lies about her time in England and marriage & trying to make money from her title
  2. For those who think it looks like a Tampax advert - if you haven't seen it ( it is old ) I think this is funny

- YouTube

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

"Create wonder in every moment"

I'm definitely not her target audience because that just makes me cringe.

And it's a me problem, she knows who she is aiming this at and it's not people who cringe at that sort of thing.

Marie Kondo of Montecito.

Nothing about Meghan sparks joy however. It just seems so inauthentic to me.

Are the lemons being used to create visual interest below the waterline in the vase of flowers…? What a waste of lemons, if so.

Yeh, it’s something that’s been done a lot in floristry. The lemons act to help disguise the stems and can act as an anchor for them. It’s supposed to create interest.

Yes, complete waste!

Livelovebehappy · 02/01/2025 19:10

I love cooking and baking shows, but like any other program I watch, if I don’t like the presenters I just check out of them. Used to love Bake off, but switched off when Alison Hammond took over. Used to like This Morning, but didn’t like Phil Schofield or Holly Willoughby so stopped watching it years ago. So whilst this cookbshow looks to have promise, I can’t stand Meghan, so will definitely not be watching.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 02/01/2025 19:10

It looks pretty.

The flower arrangements alone cost more than the monthly rent for many people.

Most Instagrammers are just making fake lifestyle videos for the money so it's obviously what works right now. Will be interesting to see if it works for her with her reputation being what it is.

I think it's what worked maybe 5 years ago. But people have become a lot more cynical about the whole influencer concept and now 'authenticity' is the thing.

Meghan always manages to be behind trend.

Their buzzword must be fresh and effortless, so def not a Christmas thing.

Marie Kondo was definitely not my vibe - she encouraged people to get rid of books 😱

It's difficult to tell from a short clip, and any trailer is extremely staged, but it did strike me that I don't really know who Meghan is so I wouldn't want to call it inauthentic.

MummyJ12 · 02/01/2025 19:13

The comments below the Netflix post on X are not for the faint hearted. No wonder she’s turned her comments off on her Instagram account.

It all seems a bit, dare I say…..desperate.

User776532 · 02/01/2025 19:15

I think the first episode is going to get a lot of views just because of idle curiosity and hate watchers. They might tout that as a success purely based on numbers but views for ensuing episodes will fall off a cliff.

This entire concept is extremely poorly timed. It feels like something they should have released 2 years ago when Meghan was relatively hyped and there was a brief period of optimism coming out of covid. It seems like it was planned for that period but got delayed for whatever reasons. The current zeitgeist is absolutely wrong for a gratuitous lifestyle show about showing off your money and hosting skills. Many "Utah wife influencers" in the same genre have also been phased out of popularity on social media. It's all become too cringe and tactless in a world on the brink of recession and war.

Also not sure why they're releasing a summery Californian aesthetic show in the middle of dreary January. Even if people in the UK, Europe or large swathes of the USA wanted to emulate what she does, how could they even get started right now? Really shitty timing right there.

I think it’s going to be an 8-episode-long Instagram reel. Which can never work. There’s a reason why gwyneth didn’t do it: there’s nowhere to hide.

Just the trailer is a gawp-fest of inauthentic, cringe-inducing, hypocritical narcissism: look how beautiful I am in the sunshine, in this beautiful house with these beautiful people (none as highly-produced as I am though, except for Mindy who’s probably the most rich and experienced and narcissistic of the lot), doing beautiful aspirational things in beautiful clothes with perfect hair and shiny bright white teeth, wearing my Duchess title so casually like I’m still the jobbing actress/waitress I was 25 years ago. It’s an excercise in hypocrisy (on the one hand lecture people on the evils of social media, on the other promote your look-at-me-love-me show on Instagram which you’ve spent years telling people isn’t actually real life and can harm people
who believe it is - you just couldn’t make it up). None of it makes sense (it never does with them) which it won’t succeed. It’s illogical, hypocritical. And all being released after the influencer tide has turned, and more people than ever know 99% of Instagram is self-promotional lies (including for the RF); Trump’s going to inaugurated 5 days after this drops and women’s rights are going to be front and center all over again. It’s just garbage. Ill thought through rubbish.

I think it’ll succeed for exactly the reasons you don’t: escapism from the Trump/far right/climate/economy stuff. Same reason Emily in Paris is a runaway hit. With Love, Meghan looks like the California Emily in Paris.

In defence of Marie Kondo, her philosophy is that if it 'sparks joy' for you, then keep it and don't feel you have to justify it to anyone else. She doesn't believe in holding onto books despite making millions from writing them!

I don't think anyone knows who Meghan is, including Meghan. But anything combining cooking with light coloured clothes, loose hair and beringed fingers is inauthentic to me. And who considers a bog standard sponge cake 'the most glamorous moment of their lives'? I'm no 'celebrity' but I've had much more glamorous moments than that!

I love these types of programmes 😂 I still flick through Pippa’s book on entertaining

Pippa's book on entertaining was what I thought of when I watched the trailer.

I'll probably watch it because I do like cooking shows. But I do tend to watch ones done by people with actual cooking experience. I wouldn't normally watch a random celebrity with no cooking background who decided to make a cookery show. But that could of course be grossly unfair of me and mean I miss out on great ones (Meghan's or other people's).

Onthefenceaboutmarmite · 02/01/2025 19:16

I did like the look of the tomato ladybird things she made, otherwise it just looked like a footballers wife photo shoot in a gossip magazine

Here those arrangements would costs hundreds even when bought at a wholesalers.

Im not sure if it being California, they grow a lot of their own, rather than shipping in from Colombia (thats where the UK get ours, along with Amsterdam of course), thus making them less expensive?

I love sweet peas but never buy them at the wholesalers. So expensive for tiny bunches.

Maybe they are thinking it will work in January in the same way Death in Paradise did? Sunshine in the cold.

But it's perfect timing in MEagins eyes, it's exactly one week until the Princess of Wales celebrates her birthday.

Yeah that quote about a sponge made Mindy look like an idiot.

I don't like food that looks as if the cook touched every item, but if you don't do that you don't get pretty plates.

The more I comment the more I see my first instinct was right - not the demographic!

Except I don't think escapism works here because she's a real person. Fictional series are fun because people know it's scripted and they can secretly project themselves as the protagonist, hence the escapism. Real wealthy people showing off their real wealthy lives don't work as escapism at all because you cannot put yourself into their shoes. I know I'm not Meghan just like I'm not Victoria Beckham or Taylor Swift. Fantasising about becoming them just feels awkward and a bit desperate.

User776532 · 02/01/2025 19:28

Is that Weird Al Yankovic next to her by the beehive in the Youtube trailer?!! 😂

But it’s not real Confused. Which is fine if you’re setting out your stall as fiction, like Emily in Paris. That’s what escapism is. Transporting yourself to a fantasy life.

This is Meghan setting her stall out as authentically her, magazine/documentary style. Which is demonstrably false. Who would waste their time watching someone lie about who/what they are Confused This is why it’ll be like an Instagram reel: rehearsed, curated, duplicitous, filtered, edited montages. I actually have a lot of time for shows like Big Brother because (at least in the early years) they were honest about what they were and the people on them were the same. This isn’t that.

Ohpleeeease · 02/01/2025 19:30

I thought the Netflix trailer was very well put together, but there wasn’t anything about it that made me think I should watch the show. The same old faces are there as supporting cast, so unless there are some surprises it looks like it might be thin on content. It will be thoroughly reviewed so I’ll wait for someone else to digest it for me.
