No matter how preeningly narcissistic the couple may seem, surely even they must now have realised what the source of their woes is? The fact is: people were only interested in hearing what Harry and Meghan had to say when they were dishing the dirt on the royal family.Hence, in January last year, the record-breakingly vast sales of Harrys memoir Spare. with all its eye-popping claims about his brother, father and stepmother. But every time he, and Meghan, start talking about any other topic – be it sport, jam or social justice – the world turns off. No one cares. Now that the Sussexes have finished flogging all the family secrets, they’ve got nothing that anyone wants.

There is part of me that does feelsorry for them too. I mean 2024 has been a disaster, off the back of 2023 which was another disaster. It’s not going to get any better. Reap what you sow, so we knew it was coming their way but it’s all a bit sad and pathetic now. The faux tours, cards from ‘the office of’, as time goes on, the more pathetic that will look because they have lost all connection to the Royals

This must be their year of reckoning. He won’t win his cases, they will lose Netflix, the brand will face further set backs, they realise that their kids will never have a royal Christmas at Sandringham or summer at Balmoral, ever. In fact they are unlikely to ever meet the King again.

Its all came off the rails. We all knew it would happen. Many could even see the disaster impending from the engagement announcement. But it’s still hard to watch and that’s what makes me feel a bit sorry for them.

Prepared to be flamed! 😬

They are living the life they chose. Why feel sorry for them?

GiveMeSpanakopita · 20/12/2024 12:31

I feel sorry for people who make single mistakes that have lasting life consequences.

I have considerably less sympathy for people who have every privilege and advantage, yet insist on making a clear mistake despite excellent advice to the contrary, and then, continue to knowingly persist in their error despite there being an available life raft offered (you may recall the RF suggested they take a year to 'see how things went' in Cali, after which they could return if they wanted to.)

I also have very very little sympathy with people who slag their familiy in public. Especially the elders in a family. The elders deserve respect.

I don't see anything to feel sorry about. They seem to lead a very nice life, have two gorgeous children and are in love.

You knew you wouldn't get flamed.

Scratch the surface, below it's Dante's inferno in their world! Harry fell straight down to the 2nd circle of hell, Megs brought him quickly down to the 4th where she could get her harpie claws nipping at his arm and his puppet strings. They both pop into the 3rd, and back to the 4th circles again and again to feed. In their 5th circle they have images of Kate, Wills, Charles and Camilla, unfinished scripts filled with vileness lies and twisted half truths. Harry pretends Wills is in the 7th circle of hell, the harpie swooping around, sniffing out the souls of royalty to consume or rip apart. Albeit their main abode is a dual floor mansion in the 3rd and 4th circles, they have an apartment in the 8th circle that they visit regularly. In the 9th circle and they have a castle they stole from their (his) family. Unfortunately for them their castle is on a fault line which is opening and the structure is crumbling into the centre, where the 3 headed beast awaits .....

I think I would probably prefer to live in Montecito than be a member of the BRF. I look at what poor Kate has been through this year - I remember seeing that American chat show host making fun of her before the news about her cancer diagnosis came out. I think it is fair enough to not be fans of Harry and Meghan but all this criticism (Christmas card which seemed niceenough) seems mean.

Londonrach1 · 20/12/2024 13:52

No. They got what they wanted ..they living in a large house in USA with their children away from the UK and the royal family. I never meet them and don't want to but they got what they wanted so I'm sure they very happy. They got dogs and chickens. Not everyone wants to be with family at Christmas and sounds like they don't.

Thedom · 20/12/2024 14:01

I don't know about living in places like Montecito, these suburban towns in the US are often soulless, I haven't been to Montecito, but have been in that area and these little towns feel so unsubstantial, they remind me of movies sets.

I think living near NY would be much more rewarding than LA , which is a dump in general, yes the weather is better in California, but they experience natural disasters regularly,, wild fires, flooding, earthquakes, land slides.

SweetBaklava · 20/12/2024 14:01

I don't feel sorry for them at all, they seem very happy in their life in the US and the kids are well protected from the press and the paps. I think they did the right thing leaving - good luck to them, I couldn't think of anything worse than being in the RF here.

cantthinkofausernametoadd · 20/12/2024 14:17

I can't help but wonder if she regrets marrying him like Wallis Simpson because he is a liability like Edward VIII

AnarchismUK · 20/12/2024 14:32

Their main problem was the only thing making them special, even with her tv acting career, was an accident of birth, not and skill possessed. They believed their own hype.

Harry might be the 'spare' but he had money and position above almost every other human being. He had far more freedom than number one.

Once he'd dished the dirt all he had was a victim narrative. They will have far more to tell but no one cares now, plus given the amount of provable lies, no one would believe them anyway.

Yes, and Ellen just left Monteceito. Seems to me after all the stuff that went down with her show, she wanted to escape that world. It must be very fake. She moved to the UK, which I don’t think will be a long term move but I think it might be intended to escape and get a bit of grounding. There’s no valet parking etc. Its all wellies and dogs. Proper village's, not just gated estates for the super rich. Also she’s a house flipper, so I suspect she’s seeking a new challenge and more profits.

From pictures of Monteceito, it does look beautiful but I suspect it won’t be the place where the local florist can afford to stay, or the local Gardner. So would be like a theme park for the super rich, with the ‘workers’ arriving by car/bus for work. Sounds awful.

Its a personal preference obviously, but when watching The Holiday I always think I’d prefer to live in Kate Winslet’s cozy little cottage in the countryside over Cameron Diaz’ massive mansion in soulless LA.

AmazingGraze · 20/12/2024 15:09

I don’t feel the least bit sorry for either of them. They have created their own karma. I see he’s now trying to sue the NYPD Police or something. The man is just a deluded paranoid half wit.

The letter. Badly written and full of entitlement.

Anyone starting to feel sorry for them?

I'm not 100% convinced that the Torchstone email is genuine. It's so badly written and unprofessional, I just doubt that someone of Harry's stature and wealth would deal with such an amateur.

Aspargar · 20/12/2024 15:28

There was a FOI request made in February by a Reddit user, who published it a week or so ago. I wondered too if it was real because it is so bad. Now the Daily Mail has picked it up so they must have done some vetting. I think it’s real.

I have no idea who was the actual author, I’m guessing Harry or a beefy security guard. It states it’s the VP but who knows. It’s not Meghan, she would dazzle us with word salad but at least it would be grammatically correct.

Oh I think they're fine. They're keeping their hand in with the RF by courting Prince Andrew's daughters - have they not, or are they going to, but a house in the same gated enclave in Portugal as Eugenie? I suspect they also keep in with the Spencers.

It's like the houses of York and Lancaster 400 years ago. If we weren't so modern, they'd be plotting to overthrow the throne. Or maybe they are??!

Spectre8 · 20/12/2024 15:39

Having been to both NYC and LA several times I prefer LA. What sets it apart and why u like it is because you are always under an hour away from several beaches, the dessert, mountains. Obviously the weather yr round is better. It has lots of museums, events and there is always something to do just like NYC does too. It also has a great food scene.

It's not a soulless place. The only negative is the traffic really.

Thedom · 20/12/2024 15:40

Gosh, that letter does not look genuine, but IF it is, it doesn't say much for the Vice President of any company to pen something like that, unless Harry wrote it and the guy had to sign his name to it.

Just saw it has come from the DM and not twitter, so I guess there must have been some due diligence done on the veracity of it, if it's not genuine we will be hearing about another lawsuit against the DM.

Aspargar · 20/12/2024 15:57

Yes the letter is from the daily Mail article. A FOI request was made to the NYPD.

Yikes. Does anyone know about how procedurally correct the requests made are?

Funnily enough I work in data protection, which mostly attracts people with an axe to grind. It reminds me of the latest request I received where the individual demanded that we respond having completed the task in a week or they would escalate a complaint to our regulatory body. And they went quiet when I made reasonable requests and pointed out the one month time-frame.

But at least I don't have requests coming from THE DUKE.

(Maybe he's been watching too much of Netflix and A Royal Date at Christmas? Where the British Duke is Duke of a small town in America?)

Aspargar · 20/12/2024 16:02

I mean the letter talks about contacting the Governor Gavin Newsom of California about this. What planet is Harry on?

I hope this is picked up by the US press.

I do sometimes wonder if some on this board never stop to think about what they are saying - “no charity or business would work with them” - really?! When anything H&M are involved in instantly gets press coverage in the UK? That hair care launch she went to recently, the dull polo show, those things only got coverage because H&M were involved/went. Every pretty dress she wears, each time he turns up in a suit, gets absolutely poured over and every word analysed in the press and online - with the business or charity getting mentioned over and over.

it’s going to be the easiest publicity win for any small business or charity- get one of them at any event you can cobble together and get more exposure than you could ever dream of.

The British press - and the posters on here - seem completely incapable of ignoring them.
