The royal family

Harry not honouring Tyler Perry. Why?

Sunblessed · 26/11/2024 14:00

Way back in July, it was announced that Harry and Meghan are tribute chairs for Tyler Perry and the award he will receive at the Paley honours Gala on December 4th. See

https://people.com/meghan-markle-prince-harry-celebrate-tyler-perry-paley-honor-8679521

Now we are told, even though Tyler has helped his family over the years and is his daughter’s godfather, that Harry won’t be attending the gala even though he is on the hosting committee. Instead Meghan will be on her own? See

Why? It makes no sense. I understand that their work takes them different places but this is something they are both involved in. Harry is off to a book conference that just so happens to be on the 4th December, all the way in NY.

He was a chair of the committee and he doesn’t bother to show up? That’s really poor taste, for a man that has done so much for him.

It’s also just adding unnecessary fuel to fire that all is not well with their marriage. This is an event that they should be doing together, instead Meghan will be left to the red carpet on her own. If he didn’t want to be part of it, why did he join the hosting committee, if he never intended to host?

But the only thing they've done which has been a commercial success has involved selling royal gossip. That well has run dry, and they have nothing else to offer.

I disagree. I believe PH's well has run dry - and that he now potentially wants a reconciliation with his Dad on an emotional level rather than a BRF level. I dont think he will spill more.

However MM has kept her powder dry and her words and insight as an outsider with zero to lose could be powerful. She has hinted / goaded at this a few times in interviews.......and this is the only reason OW / TP are keeping her close - because they want a slice of that lucrative pie. I think she would wait to do this after / if she separated from PH. But the Hollywood sharks play the long game - she is only a commodity / pawn for them to make more cash....an investment strategy - a potential revenue stream.

Again, I'm not sure. Harry was born a Prince, but she was a working royal for less than 2 years. I can't imagine that she has much left to say at this point. How many times can we hear the story about who made who cry at a toddler's dress fitting? Plus, she's lost so much credibility over the past few years that anything she says now would be taken much less seriously than at the time of the Oprah interview.

The only situation which would change all that would be a divorce. A 'tell all' book or interview where Harry becomes the object of her disdain would definitely be a best seller. However, any divorce settlement would probably include a watertight NDA. In any case, that doesn't appear likely for the time being. So my point remains that neither she nor her husband has much to offer.

She's talking about her casual Thanksgivings currently. Of course she has to name drop even in that - that she invited Glo one year to hers. I wonder if she told her the P and G Story.

I must have missed the P and G story ……..😂

Tealeavesinthecup · 29/11/2024 15:32

I imagine she would use the threat of wishing further dirt to get a better settlement . So there would be an NDA. Poor children, their entire family trashed by their mother .

Thedom · 29/11/2024 15:44

I think she could bring in the money if she does another tell all, probably not a Netflix amount anymore, however she now has a reputation for being dishonest and deceptive, so anything she has to say would be viewed with suspicion and not much credence given to it, her unpopularity is a big roadblock and will be hard to overcome.

It would give plenty of gossip column inches though.

Sunblessed · 29/11/2024 16:31

Go back to 2020 and when it was announced they had a Netflix deal worth millions, podcast deal worth millions, book deals worth millions etc.

Would you ever believe, in fours years time, that such little has happened and they’ve got nothing to show for it.

Harry is just doing what he always did. No idea what Meghan is actually doing.

No running tv series. Just limited ones. Only their docu was successful. All others failed.

The cartoon Pearl wasn’t picked up, what happened to the movie Meet me at the Lake? The Miss havisham alternate origins story? We still don’t have the cooking show. POLO looks trashy. Netflix are clearly running down the clock

Spotify dropped Archetypes, picked up by lemonada but nothing happened since.

There’s been no further books

Her lifestyle brand launched in March, is weighed down with trademark problems. She’s got no products etc. 9 months and nothing.

Hollywood has now picked up in the bullying behaviour (HR article) so it’s obviously well known in the industry. She’s not even pretending to a producer anymore- turning up to events like the variety power of women event. Archewell productions is not talked about anymore in their press. Nothing about what they are developing, what’s coming up. It’s never talked about. Biggest sign that the deal is ending.

I think they thought they were going to conquer the world, have these amazing businesses.

2023 was when the wheels started to come off. 2025, when the Netflix deal ends, the dream is well and truly over

What would she tell, though? She’s been away from the RF for far longer than she was in it and as you say, I can’t imagine that she would be believed if she said anything new about her time there. The only realistic tell all would be stuff on Harry and that could only possibly happen if, god forbid, they split up 🤷‍♀️

You're right. I also think a lot of people bought Spare because they thought there would be some juicy gossip but it was filled with whining therefore the general public will just assume it will be the same with Megan.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/11/2024 17:25

My point remains that neither she nor her husband has much to offer

And events have shown you to be right, @IcedPurple

This is the key point and always has been, and while some of us hoped they might find something worthwhile and succeed it simply hasn't happened - hence, as Givemespanakopita so ably put it, the distancing of those who might once have helped them

Agreed - but it sold millions of copies so from a commercial stand point it was a huge sucess - ie units shifted = $$$$ - no one cared about the quality of the content .... and theree is an argument that it being sooooooo petty it raised awareness / got talked about / sold more.

Anything MM says gets click bait - whether its true or false - so it is a commercial opportunity and all the publishers and outlets will be grooming her and keeping her close so that they get a piece of the action. They dont give a fig about the quality of the content - just the volume of the reach.

Mylovelygreendress · 29/11/2024 17:47

Another programme about the pair being aired in Germany
'Ineffective. Not credible.' Damning verdict on Harry and Meghan

Mylovelygreendress · 29/11/2024 17:49

Apologies , tried ( and failed ) to copy link .

Is this the one that has been on hold for legal reasons for a while?

I don't think publishers are going to go out of their way to cultivate a relationship with someone on the basis of a hypothetical book which will probably never materialise.

isitsnowingyett · 29/11/2024 18:03

Does she have the guts though for a tell all solo? She loves to insinuate and hint and Harry has been the perfect puppet for that. Who? Little old me? I didn't say that. I don't think she has the guts to do it as she has to have that loved up feeling.

Tealeavesinthecup · 29/11/2024 18:04

I think she’s does. She cares about nothing but her own advancement and money. It’s not about guts.

isitsnowingyett · 29/11/2024 18:07

"And she and Harry have started their own traditions with Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three, including leaving out "carrots for the reindeer" on Christmas Eve"

Gosh that's original 🙄🙄🙄

WinnieTheW0rm · 29/11/2024 18:08

I don't think there's any need to surmise that the RF has any hand in this.

What did the damage was The Hollywood Reporter.

Yes .

JSMill · 29/11/2024 19:47

I think she loves to insinuate and hint because she doesn't actually have anything substantial against the RF. Probably the worst dirt she has is against Harry.

StartupRepair · 29/11/2024 19:54

I think there are a couple of things against them. Firstly lack of talent to produce compelling creative content. Neither of them has the spark or ability to see anything from other perspectives. Everything they are associated with is flimsy and derivative. The Bench was execrable. Harry has I suspect never read a book in his life. How can these two compete with the brilliant creative minds in Hollywood? Only by being amazing at bringing the right people together to realise a vision and having the skills to bring the best out of others. Clearly not the case.
Secondly, while they clearly thought their story is about bravely fleeing terrible treatment, most of the world sees it as about spite and ingratitude. This really taints their product.

Serenster · 29/11/2024 20:12

This I think is true to some extent - their own perception of events is so overdramatised that it has rebounded on them. For every breathlessly trailed example of extraordinary abuse and cruelty, what we actually heard was “Kate didn’t hug me when we first met” and “Kate didn’t look thrilled to when I asked to borrow her lap gloss but she lent it to me anyway”.

CathyorClaire · 29/11/2024 20:16

smilesy · 29/11/2024 14:00

Things are always in flux and she wants to make sure everything is done the way she wants it. She's a perfectionist and particular.

Apart from when it comes to making sure a business name is trademarked or that her clothes are not a crumpled mess or still
sporting a price tag…

And all despite the 'freakish attention to detail' 😎

Tealeavesinthecup · 29/11/2024 20:17

They are both emotionally 12.

JSMill · 29/11/2024 20:20

It was the overdramatision of things in the NF documentary that made me realise they had actually very little to complain about so were just trying to exaggerate things to make them look like victims. For example, they made a big deal of snipers being on rooftops on their wedding day as if that proved the level of hatred towards Meghan. Yet it's a pretty bloody obvious thing to happen at an event attended by the monarch and all of her immediate heirs, as Harry would know.

CathyorClaire · 29/11/2024 20:32

it sold millions of copies so from a commercial stand point it was a huge sucess

Yet it failed to win any awards and number crunchers believe Harold's huge advance more than cancelled out any profits:

https://www.express.co.uk/news/royal/1847669/prince-harry-book-spare-sales

Figures from PRH show sales up and profits down:

https://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/industry-news/financial-reporting/article/94672-penguin-random-house-sales-rose-7-in-2023-but-profits-dipped.html

Personally I think there's a story to be told in Rachel's tell all right there.
