The Archewell Foundation hosted a dinner for the Southern California Welcome Project with their partner organization, Mina’s List. Mina’s List spent the past year building community and a safe space for women who have resettled in the U.S. from Afghanistan.

The organisation has helped evacuate and resettle more than 2,000 women leaders through independent and coalition efforts. They applied to become part of the Welcome Project after hearing about Archewell's efforts. "It was the opportunity of a lifetime to be able to partner in that way,"

How do you think other RF members get to places? They don't drop down out of the sky?!

I was thinking that.
Diana's wedding dress is probably the most famous example of the RF appearing in a very creased outfit.

Tealeavesinthecup · 26/11/2024 10:48

I think she chooses the wrong type of fabric. Linen is never a good choice .

I remember reading a book by the late Queen's dressmaker and she spoke about how every fabric was tested for creasing. Although other royals do occasionally show up creased it's not frequent. Meghan obviously isn't bothered by creases since it happens so often with her.

That dress was a disaster from start to finish, one thing that is guaranteed to get me cross at the TV is David Emmanuel being wheeled out at a royal event, as if he is some fashion guru just because he produced that over sized, unflattering, creased mess.

Diana's wedding dress was worn 43 years ago!

Yes, it was a headline grabbing moment (though the creases dropped out pretty quickly - barely there by the end of the service) so it stuck in the public memory.

But to have to go back over 4 decades for an example shows how very rare it is.

I can't think of any other time Diana was in creased clothes, nor ever for any of the others

Yes - that was the point I meant to make, really.
I obviously didn't make it very well.
Meghan's perennialy creased appearance can't be just down to driving everywhere as the RF do that too.
And, yes, Diana's wedding dress is probably the most famous example of a creased dress on a member (or near as dammit by that point) of the RF and yes that was a very long time ago.
So it's not just the driving, obviously.

I didn't mean to say it was just the driving that's the issue, just that driving causes creases and that's probably what happened to Meghan. Where I think Meghan falls short is in choosing so many outfits in materials that crease badly, it doesn't show attention to detail. I have seen Catherine in dresses with creases, a few at Wimbledon come to mind, but no where near as many as Meghan.

Maybe Megan simply doesn't care about creases, however they affect the way the outfit looks.

I take your point.
Every five years or so I succumb to the fashion pages spiel of "Linen is supposed to crease, it looks good creased" and I buy something linen.
Then I wear it twice and look like I've picked out something that's been ridden hard and put away damp at the bottom of the dressing-up box.
Same with the beauty pages: "There's a perfect red lipstick for everyone!".
No there isn't. Every damn one makes me look like the Joker in Batman.

BustingBaoBun · 26/11/2024 17:02

@LaMarschallin. That made me laugh, me too! I love red lipstick, I have quite a few, never wear them!

I’m baffled by what’s happened to Meghan and clothes. She’s very attractive and has a lovely figure. She used to always look put together pre royal family and in the first year of royal life always looked good.

Even her casual game which was her strength before looks weird now. And her clothes now very rarely look like they fit and are nearly always wrinkled. And too often for it to be an accident she wears clothes that don’t fit the weather or the season.

I wonder if she felt she has to change her style for the royal role and now can’t pivot to her current life. That’s not uncommon for many women in their forties to a certain extent - you don’t always suit what looked good in your 20s/30s but it’s hard to find your 40s groove.

I avoid linen too. As for red lipstick, in my head it's Taylor Swift, in the mirror Coco the clown.

I wonder if she is simply wearing what she is sent rather than choosing for herself? She looks great in jeans and a shirt, sweater and pencil skirt, soft dress etc but maybe that's a rather middle of the road look if you want to build a brand in fashion.

What do I know though because the sort of thing i am happy in regularly gets called frumpy in the style and beauty section!

I don’t think she did look good when she was in the RF. sometimes she did, but more often than not she looked poorly put together in clothes that weren’t appropriate for the season or the occasion , didn’t suit her and didn’t fit properly. She also trowelled on the make up in the last year or so. I don’t think she’s got much fashion sense generally. She doesn’t dress for her figure. She has a short torso and very spindly legs . She often accentuates both instead of her good features. She doesn’t get her hair right much of the time either.

Tealeavesinthecup · 26/11/2024 22:55

Also why is she obsessed with beige and cream or white? Also tottering about in very high heels.

JADS · 27/11/2024 16:08

I would be really interested in the financial gain to the charity from this publicity and the Marie Clair article. We always hear that a Royal Patronage doesn't result in an uptick in cash. I would assume the same here.

isitsnowingyett · 27/11/2024 16:49

That's a very valid pointv@JADS . We do read that time and again here referring to the Royal Family yet Meghan is held to have the magic touch.

isitsnowingyett · 27/11/2024 16:53

Unfortunate as positioning on an article about Meghan's red dress. 😂

She will never build a brand in fashion ever
