The Archewell Foundation hosted a dinner for the Southern California Welcome Project with their partner organization, Mina’s List. Mina’s List spent the past year building community and a safe space for women who have resettled in the U.S. from Afghanistan.

The organisation has helped evacuate and resettle more than 2,000 women leaders through independent and coalition efforts. They applied to become part of the Welcome Project after hearing about Archewell's efforts. "It was the opportunity of a lifetime to be able to partner in that way,"

MN - could we have a separate Megan board?

MangshorJhol · 23/11/2024 06:27

I concur. Look it’s a great cause. Well done. But if every minor dinner or hair care launch by Megan needs her PR team to make a splash and for her supporters to say LOOK then something is up (and it’s tedious). Also the focus for things like this should be on the cause not the person attending/hosting. This is just presumably a Thanksgiving dinner with a charitable focus.
I went to the Archwell website and there is no way for me to donate to the cause (because as a South Asian woman in the US I would like to) https://archewell.org/news/celebrating-strength/#:~:text=This%20initiative%2C%20led%20by%20the,centered%20on%20gratitude%20and%20resilience.

Why is all this being filmed? Angelina Jolie does a huge amount ofwork and events like this and you rarely see her posting about it. You see if the Charity or cause post about it. Meghans event always seem to come across as touting for Archewell funding.

Great that you want to donate. I would think it's best to do that through the website of the organisers rather than that of just one of the people who attended though.

She wouldn't do it if it wasn't being filmed and if she wasn't front and centre, shoehorning herself in.

MangshorJhol · 23/11/2024 07:16

I did. Obviously. But if Archewell is going to claim PR for it the BARE MINIMUM they can do is make sure people can get to their website rather than admire what MM wore for Thanksgiving, yes?!

Viviennemary · 23/11/2024 07:17

Cringe was my first reaction. Everything she does seems to have self promotion written all over it. I'm in it for me.

There is a puff piece to go with it where when asked about her Thanksgiving traditions she name drops Gloria Steinem.

Great cause- but why does she have to grab and drape all over everyone all the time?!!

Sadly, very true.

It’s great that these women have found a supportive community in the States. I was introduced to Mina’s list via the Archewell Foundation.

Please support them if you can. They do great work.

MM isn’t an attendee though, was she. She says it’s one of their Welcome Projects. She did a whole piece in a magazine about her support for the cause and her Foundation website doesn’t link to this ‘Southern California Welcome Project’ of which Mina’s List is a part. I googled “Southern California Welcome Projecf” (I urge you to do the same) and got a Meghan Markle publicity blitz but no info or a website for the Welcome Project per se.

And on the Archewell website this is all there is:
https://archewell.org/program/the-welcome-project/
(again no link to the causes the Welcome Project supports…). Almost as if the causes are less important than the patron…

I’m glad more people are learning about the Welcome Project Initiative.

Read about a visit to their Texas branch.

What do we know about this project that doesn’t involve a publicity visit/s by the Sussexes? Is there any coverage or information beyond this?
in fact what that link takes you to is another visit with no link to the actual organisation that does the work for the Welcome Project.

Since Archewell can’t even be bothered with a hyperlink here is the actual organisation that does the work:
https://www.culturingua.com

This is a link to Culturingua’s supporters and partners. Guess what is conspicuously missing?

Great, awareness for Culturingua’s work raised, that’s the point of these visits.

Great! I always wondered what they are getting up to these days

MangshorJhol · 23/11/2024 07:53

How is it raising awareness for a cause if you don’t actually publicise the CAUSE rather than the patron?
And why are they claiming something as part of their Welcome Project when they are not a major funder or supporter?!

I didn’t know the two organisations existed before Archewell partnered with them, I’ve made donations after doing my own reading. Anyone would class that as raising awareness, I know that I do.

It is inexplicable though that there is no link on the Archwell website. Also that Archewell are not donating themselves:

I’m hopeful for more visits like this, it’s nice to learn about new organisations and initiatives.
