Meg’s era of joy

Showing up to support her very close friend who lost her child and also the children’s hospital at an evening gala. What a friend to have in the Duchess. Meghan was glowing, fresh faced, wore minimal makeup, was confidant and smiley. She was well spoken and supportive of the evening fund raiser when interviewed. Show Up, Do Good. Yes, she always does. Loved her look too.

I really can't believe there are so many sugars on here. Meagain wasn't invited to this event she just turned up and apparently walked the red carpet three times. She has to be the centre of everything.

He clothing either doesn't fit properly or it unsuitable for the event.

I'm pretty sure they're on the verge of a break up

Icicle90 · 12/10/2024 02:33

She looks sensational, has to be said!

I don’t think she does tbh. As many others have said, the dress could be great but isn’t. However I do love colour on her.

I wish I could write like some of you excellent posters on here, but focusing on @Twistybranch and @wordler's for a moment, it all reminds me why the blah about the RF having "thrown away the best asset they'll ever have" was so laughable

It was never going to work and it didn't, and given the mess that's followed it's just such a damned shame that Harry didn't follow the advice to take his time.
Of course we've no way of knowing if this would have lessened his blinkered obsession, and if he'd been capable of listening he'd have been a different person in the first place and may not have made the same mistakes

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 12/10/2024 07:46

Superb posts twisty and wordier. Wordler
auto correct has so much to answer for!

I agree, Puzzled.

I know that many posters have said that they could have been a great asset to the RF if they hadn't been so hasty (or perhaps...hadn't planned their exit from the start). But you only have to look at the recent Southport visit by W and C to know that it would never have worked, with Meghan anyway. Can you imagine her doing that kind of thing? I can't! At least, not without making it about her, or doing something awful to bereaved people as she did on the SA mothers' group video.

I think royal official duties fall into 4 categories:

Ceremonial and state occasions (Meghan finds it hard to stay calm, just sit still and shut up.)
Glamorous evening occasions: Baftas etc (I grant she'd love these).
Ribbon-cutting in everyday places or 'meet Jo/Joanna Public events like Buck House Garden Parties (Meghan would be hopeless - she'd end up showing her boredom/contempt).
Serious, support-giving visits to places where a tragedy has occurred (In my wildest dreams I cannot imagine Meghan being able to do these with any real dignity. She'd get it wrong, start simpering for the camera or something or blather on tactlessly about herself.)

I blame Harry too, in many cases, but I do think Harry (for all his faults) has been brought up to it and can manage these events reasonably well. I don't think he actually wants to do them, though.

Oh dear! Caroline Herrera's revenge, or Meghan's, or perhaps her stylist's?

MaturingCheeseball · 12/10/2024 09:11

The rf have advisers who scope out every occasion and their dressers “dress” them as appropriate. Meghan doesn’t have this and so she is often wildly overdressed (the cinema ball gown embarrassment) or hopelessly underdressed (marching with veterans in a playsuit thing). She looks best in her LA casual stuff, eg jeans and a shirt.

I think it would be hard to imagine her doing that well after seeing the video of her visit to the mothers2mothers charity. She sat on the floor with her back to the lady trying to tell her story, so that lady had to move her seat just to get in her eyeline. Then Meghan just kept "Mmm-hmm-ing", seemed to lose interest and turned her attention to one of the children on the floor, who was happily playing and didn't need some random woman waggling a ball in their face. The ball was eventually taken, politely examined and put down, showing a small child had better manners than Meghan.

Mylovelygreendress · 12/10/2024 09:17

I agree with you @MaturingCheeseball .
It was reported that she had hired stylist Jamie Mizrahi but this morning i am reading that they have “ had conversations” but are not working together .
Would she listen anyway ?

True.
Maybe the people who said William looked like "a geography teacher" in his jacket, tie and jersey outfit would have thought full black tie was more suitable or, otoh, a nice pair of shorts and a baseball cap. The cap worn the right way round to show respect, of course.

People having non favourable opinions about a public figure is bullying now I guess. Surely that applies to pretty much every celebrity? People say not nice things about them all the time, its part of the job. She could try being nice to people? That might help

Edited

I can imagine just how insincere that would sound coming from her if she tried to say something nice! Virtually everything she says has to be about her, her feelings and her life 😵‍💫

That was so painful to watch. That woman was pouring out the most vulnerable, heart-breaking story. She had been told Meghan was there to hear her story. Meghan treated her with utter indifference and contempt, like she was just a buzzing fly that she wanted to swat away. When you watch the footage you can see her entire mind is consumed with only one thing, where are the cameras and is she in the best position for the photos. She is sickening. It was only a couple of weeks later that she gave a word salad speech and was droning on about 'amplifying voices' and 'raising each other up' with a smug, self-satisfied smiles, wreathed in adoration for her own wonderful, boundless, inspiring message.. and I genuinely felt sick.

That black ballgown that was far, far too long for her 🙈
I really liked the cream playsuit outfit but what on earth was she thinking wearing it to that occasion, I felt so embarrassed for her. She looked absurd!

Agree. And they have used the bereaved for their own gains many times. There was a school teacher shot and killed in Texas, M&H turned up with a full camera crew to film and photograph themselves hugging the victims family and giving them cake etc. Imagine turning up with a full camera crew, and trying to pass that off as helping people.
Then there's that horrific recent interview where they treated the bereaved parents with complete indifference and Meghan was smugly grinning about her own children, braying and simpering about how amaaaazing they are. While sitting right next to people whose own children were dead, no-one word of acknowledgement or sympathy for them.

I genuinely think she enjoys others misfortunes, in that it gives her a platform to perform as someone brimming with empathy, bountifully bestowing her healing word salads and soulful looks. Unfortunately for her, she's so phony and synthetic that it just doesn't work. I think that's another reason why she gets more flack than Harry, he may be just as horrid as her, but he is often capable of looking like he cares. She can't even pull of the pretense.

the cinema ball gown embarrassment

Ive been thinking about Diana’s first engagement with Charles and she went to the cinema on a black off the shoulder full skirted Taffeta number.

Was it a co-incidence Meghan did it also dress wise?

CathyorClaire · 12/10/2024 11:05

And they have used the bereaved for their own gains many times.

IIRC it started with a clap back trip to a US war cemetery for Rememberance Day with a team of paps in tow after Henry was refused permission to have a wreath placed on his behalf in London.

Shameless.

She doesn’t (imho). She’s looks ordinary at best. The dress honestly looks high street cheap.

It seems Carolina Herrera retired from her company some time back and someone else is running the show, which solves the mystery of why would she design such a monstrosity.

The friend (Kelly) dress was lovely, I thought. Why couldn’t Meghan have worn something as nice as that dress?

Is that another weak link to Diana and her ‘revenge’ dress. Difference being of course that Diana looked great in hers.

And revenge for what?

Diana’s first public event following her engagement was a black tie event in Westminster Hall , also attended by Princess Grace . It certainly wasn’t a public cinema surrounding by baseball cap wearing people !
That dress was stunning although I am old enough to remember the criticism of it being too low cut .

MummyJ12 · 12/10/2024 11:46

@wordler and @Twistybranch as many have said before me, your posts upthread were excellent and so insightful.

I loved the red colour on her, just lovely. I also really liked her hair, beautiful. Meghan looked, young, fresh and I have always loved the minimal make-up look.

No one suggested it was. In fact I referred to it as her first engagement. I didn’t refer to it as her first public date. It’s you who’s put your own spin on my post. And it was a concert. Not a royal film premiere as I had thought.

I’m also old enough to remember the evening.
