Meg’s era of joy

Showing up to support her very close friend who lost her child and also the children’s hospital at an evening gala. What a friend to have in the Duchess. Meghan was glowing, fresh faced, wore minimal makeup, was confidant and smiley. She was well spoken and supportive of the evening fund raiser when interviewed. Show Up, Do Good. Yes, she always does. Loved her look too.

It’s an awful dress. I thought Carolina Herrera was better than that

My neice wore Carolina Herrera to her daughter’s reception which was held in the evening and she looked fabulous. It was a full maxi length skirt and a simple silk shirt/blouse with the most wonderful collar and you’d never know the same person was responsible for both outfits.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 11/10/2024 19:28

It’s birds not butterflies. An Oscar De La Renta dress. I thought it was lovely

She did indeed look lovely in that dress, I like the yellow dress as well, it’s the perfect cut for her and the colour really suits her.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 11/10/2024 19:32

I’ve always thought the monstrosity of that red dress looked like a sample, a cheap knock up before the designer made the actual dress, the contestants on The Great British Sweing Bee would have made a better job of it.

theemptinessmachine · 11/10/2024 19:34

@BunnyLake it's the Oscar de la renta dress. Wasn't it pigeons or other birds?

Love those shoes. I had a pair very similar for a wedding.

Firealarm1414 · 11/10/2024 19:39

People having non favourable opinions about a public figure is bullying now I guess. Surely that applies to pretty much every celebrity? People say not nice things about them all the time, its part of the job. She could try being nice to people? That might help

I read an article somewhere today while waiting for my Covid jab about this " girly" performance by Neghan at the Gala and that it was all part of the " look at me, I'm so shy, I lack confidence " act to try to counteract what's been in the press recently. Interesting .

Interesting.

And ineffectual.

I have a (probably unfair) idea of how things went. Meghan wasn't going to go, didn't have a ticket etc. However, Meghan finds herself starved of the oxygen of publicity and self promotion, while her husband is having what seems to be a successful trip abroad. A combination of innate craving for attention and a persistant (though perhaps subconscious) desire to eclipse everyone, including her own husband, leads to a phonecall:

M: Tell you what. Why don't I put on a frock and come to the do?

Friend: Er...all the tables are taken
M: That's OK. I'll come anyway. Think of the wonderful publicity.
Friend: You will look mental, turning up to a posh gala, all glammed up without a ticket. Don't do it.
M:Oh, it's no bother. See you in five.

I think you are not far off. She isn't gamed up though, it looks like she decided 10 minutes before the start to pull a dress on, slip on some heels and run out the door.

ThePoshUns · 11/10/2024 20:59

Great post @Twistybranch , I think you've got the nail on the head

That dress is gorgeous. As are her hair and make up.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 11/10/2024 21:23

That Oscar de la renta dress is beautiful and looks lovely on her. Once again though, it's completely inappropriate for the occasion. Compare with all the other attendees in the background wearing much more casual and relaxed clothes.

Yes same act she pulled at the Windsor walkabout when HMTQ died. 2 days before she was mouthing off in The Cut interview as well as girl-bossing it as Captain Scarlet at her speech at the One Young World conference.....then she's the coy, fragile, skittish ickle girl who barely put a brush through her hair and was dodging Kates glare - until her mask slipped when she snapped at the security person with her contorted face......she's an actress.

Serenster · 11/10/2024 21:28

I can't think of any evening dress of hers that I've really liked.

Obviously your taste may vary, but here are three evening dresses that I think Meghan looked lovely in - well fitted, event appropriate and flattering styles.

I do like that third one, the green. I don't think I've seen that one before.

Needanewname42 · 11/10/2024 21:37

The dress with the birds is stunning. It would need to be a right posh do to pull it off

Glooop · 11/10/2024 21:39

I was just thinking about MM Dior ensemble for The Queens Platinum Jubilee at St Pauls - and it has just struck me that it was actually platinum in colour. It was gorgeous - very iconic Jackie Kennedy style but as ever the tailoring was poor and the details and shape were just off and unflattering.

pilates · 11/10/2024 21:41

The red and blue 👌
Khaki one is dreadful

Yes, that red one is lovely. I came across it after I posted, when I was Googling around. Lovely colour and simple style. I don't like the colour of that greeny olive one. Bright colours suit her much better.

What was the occasion ?
I don’t know why she gets it wrong so often ; remember the ball gown for the cinema in Jamaica ?

wordler · 11/10/2024 22:33

Her evening wedding dress was gorgeous and looked fabulous on her.

She's looked great in many outfits, and she's looked both great and appropriately dressed for the occasion many times too. In fact she gets it right enough times to not understand the following:

Sometimes when she looks great as an individual but she's not got the outfit right for the occasion so it looks odd. (wearing muddy green to Louis' christening when the dress code was clearly pale blues and creams for the principals, or the backless dress in modestly minded Nigeria to a school event)

Many times when the outfit is great, and you can see that it would suit her she hasn't had it tailored to her frame so it looks baggy in the wrong places or she looks disheveled. (so many)

Sometimes when the outfit looks absolutely lovely on her she does something odd or bonkers that distracts from the rest of her appearance. (the fashion awards when she wasn't supposed to be presenting and then ended up doing the Demi Moore double arm bump cradle on stage - I mean the dress was gorgeous and she looked amazing - but that pose is for private maternity shoots not official engagements when you are supposed to be highlighting the award winner)

Those three things are not the same as just not liking a particular style - both Meghan and Kate have worn things that I don't like but I can see how they work for them. And Kate indulges in a little bit too much matchy matchy with the engagement she's doing and veers into almost costume territory.

Not sure but I really liked this dress. Comparing her look there and last week’s red dress mess is 🫤🤦‍♀️

Looking again at it I see what you mean, nobody else is in something so flamboyant.

I'm a Bower girl - she never intended to stick around, she always planned to get the ring and the anchor baby, then haul him back to LA to monetise his RF connection

That's so grim, I have no skin in the game but it's astonishing how quickly they went from being 100-0, they could have had such a nice life & their children too

& only Carrie Bradshaw gets away with that...
