Apologies if there is a thread about this.

I haven't watched Scoop, because Netflix won't work on my old TV box so I have no idea how this compares. I watched all 3 episodes and found it bizarre. I did like that it didn't include any royals outside the York family.

What struck me the most was how sheltered Andrew's team must have been to think him doing an interview was a good idea. I'm just a member of the public and I wouldn't have advised him to speak for himself going only by what I read about him before Epstein was even heard of. Why on earth would anyone advise him to do this? Why did they think it had gone well? And why has he not just retired out of the public view and accepted there is no way back.

The arrogance of some people is astounding. I don't even think it's a royal thing but more a monied sense of entitlement, although ironically he didn't seem to have much money.

Anyone else seen it?

Ruth Wilson's accent really put me off

It was a little grating.

It was a little grating.

At the beginning I thought it was ridiculous but it progressively got less annoying to me.

I think they were a bit harsh with Fergie’s casting. Sarah was never big big. And they gave Andrew a very curvaceous figure - lady bum and all

Amanda Thirsk's casting was equally unfair I thought. Plus I thought they should have reversed the actresses for Beatrice and Eugenie.

I didn’t think the princesses or Fergie sounded posh enough.

I watched the first episode tonight and enjoyed it - I agree that Ruth Wilson’s accent was off putting. Interesting to see the comparisons in the casting between this and Scoop. Keeley Hawes was a much better Amanda Thirsk for me than Joanna Scanlan though, she totally sold a woman who idealised her boss.

The attention to detail was sometimes amazing - Epstein’s townhouse and what his assistant was wearing, even! But then they mixed up which of Andrew’s daughters was about to get married (Eugenie, not Beatrice).

The Windsors has utterly ruined any future portrayals of Sarah Ferguson and her daughters for me, I’m afraid. 🤣🤣

EasternStandard · 23/09/2024 22:44

The second episode is much better, the tension in the interview is brilliantly done

A really basic question but do they film this show in the actual building? It looks amazing

Sunsetand · 24/09/2024 06:55

Don't worry@WeAreNotCookingTheSpoon your passion for Rufus can reignite.

They used a body double. In an interview Rufus said it wasn’t his butt (you definitely weren’t alone in wondering/hoping apparently). He said he has no problem getting his clothes off for a scene, but that they decided to go with a body double for the Andrew butt scene.

They wouldn't get permission to film on royal property.

Some of the first episode - Emily arriving at the Palace, the Queen’s communications staff discussing how the interview might play out - look like it was filmed at Greenwich. We live not far from there and once you know what it looks like you see it all the time in films and tv productions - it pops up a lot in Bridgerton!

Eugene married in October 2018.
Beatrice was due to marry in May 2020 but due to Covid actually married in July 2020 .
The interview was broadcast in November 2019 so it had to be Beatrice’s wedding.

Serenster · 24/09/2024 13:48

Aha. That wakes sense, Harassedevictee. I knew that Andrew wasn’t disgraced at Eugenie’s wedding (he walked her down the aisle) but was by the time of Beatrice’s, which was quite a long time later, but I forgot the Covid delay.

I see Beatrice’s engagement was announced in September 2019, just a month after Epstein’s death in prison, and two months before the interview aired.

Eugene married in October 2018

Apparently she had to put it off to accommodate Harold's shiny spectacle for the masses.

Just like us she must have been delighted to learn the real thing had happened three days earlier.

And didn't they then go on to shit on her relegated and rescheduled nuptials by annoucing their pregnancy at her wedding. Making it all about them.

Very crass.

I think they both have money issues but Fergie has definitely been reported as being close to bankruptcy several times over the years.

Funny that Fergie was able to buy a house in a very upmarket area in London not that long ago.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 06/10/2024 08:37

thats what i mean, were her difficulties actually his spending?
michael sheen is giving a sympathetic edge to him after one episode at least.

Aren't both their husbands loaded? Why would they need their perpetually bankrupt mother to buy a house for them? Knowing the Yorks its something shady.

Legacy from the Queen perhaps? Who knows?!

The Royals shafted her in the divorce settlement and she then had to try and make money to keep herself in the lifestyle she expected. But yes, she suddenly has money to do things like buy a £1m house in a swanky part of London.

Where is this £1m house in a very upmarket area in London? Not possible!

Yes as I wrote it I thought it was wrong. My not swanky house in a not swanky area of London sold for 800K! Maybe it was £5m? The point is the same though. One minute they are skint and need The Queen to bail them out of some legal action where they didnt pay for a ski chalet- not to mention Andrew not being able to afford to pay for repairs on his huge house, the next minute Fergie has money to buy an expensive townhouse. How? They surely haven't got the clout anymore to tap the worlds shady oligarchs for cash anymore?

Edited after google to say it's a £4.25 m 2 bedroom flat in Belgravia!
