Catherine's new eternity ring

Hello

Delighted to see Catherine has finished chemo and starting to go back to work. <3 So is it ok to have a "fun" thread again about her style?

In today's video I noticed this is the 2nd time she's been wearing this "new" sapphire and diamond eternity ring. Looking at the picture of her hand in the wheatfield, it looks to me like it simply replaces the Diana engagement ring. So she still wears her wedding band in its normal place, ie closest to the knuckle, then this new ring, then her original eternity ring that I think she got when Prince George was born.

The pic of her in the stripy top taken a couple of weeks ago - it looks like a gold wedding band top AND bottom with the orig and new eternity rings in the middle. So a stack of FOUR rather than three? Can't see it clearly - any thoughts?

Do we think she got the new eternity ring for their 10 yr anniversary 3 years ago? Or is it a more recent purchase?

Also added a picture of her original stack from just after Prince George was born.

I wonder if maybe the Diana ring doesn’t fit at the moment? Or maybe she prefers to wear a more plain ring when at home, and the Diana ring just while they’re on duty.

GapTshirtsAreShitQualityTheseDays · 09/09/2024 18:42

Now the wheat field photo looks like a stack of 4 as well! Gold bands top and bottom AND the 2 eternity rings in the middle.

Mibbe I've been squinting at them too long!

I noticed as well. Because jewellery is my thang.

I take my engagement ring off whenever I have to do something physical because it's very old and precious and I am worried about losing a diamond. Maybe she is the same. Can you imagine losing that sapphire in the haystack..........

GapTshirtsAreShitQualityTheseDays · 09/09/2024 18:46

Oh God yeah, imagine going down in history as the person who lost the Diana sapphire! I guess they'd just have a replacement sorted immediately and hope no-one noticed!

I'm interested in this too. I can't wear my engagement ring for work and my DDad never wore a wedding ring so I never got the previous ring drama.

A stack of rings is quite fashionable at the moment. What I'm not sure about is whether this is a new ring, it doesn't look like sapphires. I read somewhere that William gave her a pearl and garnet ring and to my eyes it looks more like that.

Love a bit of bling speculation!

GapTshirtsAreShitQualityTheseDays · 09/09/2024 20:50

@JADS yeah I read it's a sapphire ring (which does make sense, fitting with Diana ring being blue plus the family always dress all in blue when doing a family shoot) BUT I do agree I can see some red in the photo where she's wearing the breton stripe top. Could well be garnet. Which is her birthstone......ahhhhhh bet he bought it for her 40th!!!!!!!!

Do you know what I got for my 40th? A bill for £500 as I hit my car on a pillar in a multi storey car park that day!

I don't like the Diana ring - I never have and possibly Catherine doesn't either but what can you do 🤷‍♀️ It was his mother's. I imagine she wears it for official engagements but everyday she doesn't.

That's rubbish. I hope you got something better for your 41st!

I have always wondered how she feels about it. It is such an iconic ring with such a sad history. I have no doubt PW thought it was a huge honour for her to have his mother's ring, but it came with serious baggage.

My engagement ring is antique. But we bought it (and my eternity ring) from an estate auction and I did not know the history. So I can enjoy my rings as being beautiful- and I hope that their original owners know how much I love them. But it helps to not know their original owners history (history writ large in the case of Princess Diana!) so i can imagine they have no negative connotations and that someone up there is benevolently smiling upon me and busily being happy that their ring lives on in my own happy marriage.

If any of that makes sense. (I am quite a superstitious person generally it has to be said).

Many years ago I saw an episode of The Osbournes where Ozzy lost a valuable ring and I’m sure that when they found it Sharon had him wear some sort of plain band stacked with it so that it was less likely to snag/slip off unnoticed.
I’ve no idea if that’s common with valuable jewellery. Could this be what Kate uses?

JADS · 09/09/2024 21:45

@GellerYeller Interesting idea. Catherine's eternity band from when Prince George was born is relatively (for someone who has access to some amazing tiaras) modest. She wore it closest to the knuckle so if a ring was lost it would be the least unique one. This is obviously speculation.

The bigger risk I would think is the loss of the stone as the prongs get worn.

Yes I don't like the Diana ring. Although 1980s stuff is fashionable again I hear.

Also - it was picked out of a catalogue by Diana on her own. Hardly a romantic story. Plus obviously the marriage failed!

I've often thought Kate would have chosen something much more elegant. Probably an emerald cut diamond. Her sister got a fab Art Deco/Asscher cut ring!

I also find it odd that Kate mixes her metals. Wedding band is yellow gold, the engagement ring is platinum and the eternity ring is white gold.

I've decided I don't like a stack on the wedding finger without an obvious engagement ring in there. It looks like there's a ring missing.

Eugenie's engagement ring was my favourite. I always prefer coloured stones but I think with sapphires unless you get a lovely Ceylon blue and a bit of a gallery (which can make wearing a ring a bit unwieldy) lots of blue sapphires look black.

Stacking small rings is much more practical. Or something a bit more pavé like

thecrossiamwearing · 10/09/2024 11:14

It's a very difficult ring to wear anything else with.

I'm sure Diana's ring is checked thoroughly ( it has to be for jewellery insurance) and safely stashed away in a secure location.

Eugenie's ring - don't like it.

Eugenie's ring - don't like it.

Lovely stone, padparadscha sapphire. Pretty design, not too big.

Stylish design, quite attractive for diamonds.

Quite nice, good cut, sparkly.

QueryA · 10/09/2024 11:46

Catherine tends to wear quite delicate jewellery so I don’t think the Diana engagement ring would have been her choice if she’s had a choice! It’s difficult ring to wear, always slipping round her finger. The new ring is probably much more practical. I wish we could get a good picture of the new ring, I love jewellery.

The wedding ring has to be gold - it’s from a Welsh nugget that lots of royal wedding rings are from. Though I suppose she could have it dipped.
