She has released a video to state that she has completed her cancer treatment.

I cry at those types of videos, as well.
I get what you’re saying about sycophantic vs. sentimental and believe me, I am majorly sentimental.

The type of comment I’m referring to include ones that said,
“If you’re reading this ,Catherine, as strong women we stand behind you, we support you.”
I’m paraphrasing slightly, as this was way back at the start of the thread.

I just find that type of comment vomit-inducing tbh 🤷‍♀️

I'm not a fan of comments like that either - I just pass them by though. They are a small minority. Actually that one strikes me as something Meghan might say!

My eyes may have gone a bit misty when Dervla the fictional dog in Casualty died ...!

I’m the same with Piper the dog in Emmerdale!

We must have different perspectives because I saw the thread more or less when it first started, and I just found the comments to be very fawning.
It’s fair to say that I’m not a fan of the royal family per se.

If you look at the first couple of pages of the of the thread, objectively there really are not many of the posts of the type you describe. It’s not a question of perspective 🤷‍♀️

" just don’t get all this adulation for someone who is essentially a stranger to most of us. And a very privileged one, at that. "

Adulation is not a synonym for respect or empathy. I don't see adulation on this thread. You need to go to look at the Meghan supporters' threads with things like " gorgeous gorgeous girl" and all of that.

Spoiler alert

Piper isn't really dead.

I think you’re confusing sentimental with sycophantic - some of us have a bit of a weep at the John Lewis Christmas advert each year - doesn’t mean we are fawning over big department stores.

I cry at the drop of a hat for joyful videos like dogs reuniting with their deployed soldier owners or deaf babies hearing their Mum’s voice for the first time.

The big tragic stuff is often too awful to cry over because where would you stop.

You should see the tiktok videos of baby's having glasses forced on their heads then they open their eyes and see

" just don’t get all this adulation for someone who is essentially a stranger to most of us. And a very privileged one, at that. "

(Sorry - I'm quoting from a quote so don't know who posted this originally!)

Firstly, I don't think it's adulation.

But the PoW, whatever your views on the RF, has been put through hell for the past few years, and I think most people on this thread get that - they're pleased to see her looking better and happier. (I appreciate that this is not the end of the cancer story).

She's a woman in an official role who has been the target of a horrible bullying campaign, firstly from her sister-in-law and stupid brother-in-law, and then, as a result of the slurs on her character made globally, she's become the focus of absolutely vicious hatred by their crazed supporters. Her marriage, children, even her parents - no-one has been spared, and even her cancer diagnosis has been questioned and mocked. She hasn't been able to respond to the character-assassination - but has just had to get on with her job.

I just wish her well and hope she's around for many, many years to come to be a mother to her children. I also happen to think she does a really good job in her royal role. I don't feel adulation, just relief that things seem to be improving for her and support for the situation she's been in.

Same @CoffeeCantata.

Adulation is just not part of my make-up!

The closest to it comes my children, and even they are hateful shits some of the time lol!

I’m very behind on Emmerdale, the last one I watched was Piper’s funeral! Relieved to hear Piper has risen from the dead!

It’s possible to feel emotional about a range of things. It doesn’t mean you have to virtue signal about feeling emotional about child poverty etc. Most people would
of course be touched by issues like that. It doesn’t mean that they can’t feel moved by a video like this. The two are not mutually exclusive. So you can give your vomiting emoji a rest 😆

I wasn’t virtue signalling child poverty.
As you very well know.
😂🤮

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 27/09/2024 07:51

Catherine went to a performance of the English National Ballet yesterday to watch a performance of Giselle.

Ooh. Nice. Do we know if she was on her own or did she take any of the children?

Serenster · 27/09/2024 08:30

From the timing of the post on their Instagram (early yesterday evening) it may have been a matinee, so the children would have been at school? Although just because it was posted yesterday doesn’t mean she attended yesterday.

Alectoishome · 27/09/2024 10:46

Bizarre that some people take umbridge over calling the PoW 'Catherine'. That is her name!

Whereas Meghan Markle's real name is actually Rachel.

I agree that people should be called by the name they prefer, not by some name other people think they should be called! Names are so much part of our identity - it's really important to respect people's wishes about what they want to be called. It can be a sort of bullying/belittling thing when others call you by a nickname they've chosen.

I'm no fan of H and M, but I would never call Meghan 'Megsy'. 'Meg' or similar.

And now Catherine is PoW (not to mention a mature woman and mother - not William's girlfriend) the full name is more dignified and formal. Sorry if that's forelock-tuggingly sycophantic! 😀

Funny enough most people call her Meg or Nutmeg in her private life.

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 02/10/2024 18:28

The Prince and Princess of Wales have met with a teenage photographer, Liz Hatton, after inviting her to take pictures at Windsor Castle.
Liz has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer.

Such lovely images. And whoa, William is looking good with the stubble/beard!

That's a sweet visit.

William must have come straight from Investitures today to be in his uniform. I saw that he knighted Mark Cavendish.

The young lady, Liz, was invited to take pictures behind the scenes at the investitures. Apparently she wants to have as many photography opportunities as possible and William heard about this on his visit to the London Air Ambulance charity recently and arranged the visit for her 🙂

GrouchyKiwi · 02/10/2024 19:36

Thanks smilesy. I found the BBC article about it just after I posted. Grin

It's a lovely gesture from William, very thoughtful.

Thedom · 03/10/2024 09:23

How wonderful is that, poor young girl and family though, what a rough road they are travelling,
