A new docuseries will be shown, Who Killed Diana? which will explore the circumstances surrounding the death of the Princess of Wales on August 31, 1997. It will feature rare and, in some cases, the first ever interviews with several key sources connected to Diana's death.

Who else will be watching this?

Which channel is it going to be on? What time of day?

outdamnedspots · 29/08/2024 19:18

What's the point? Who's left to interview? It was twenty years ago!

upinaballoon · 29/08/2024 19:19

King Kong? Margaret Thatcher? Crippen? Gunslinger?

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 29/08/2024 19:19

I bet it's Channel 5. They are obsessed with stuff like this that leaves more questions than answers

Procrastinates · 29/08/2024 19:24

Is there really nothing better these people could make TV shows about, the women's been dead for nearly 30 bloody years.

Also spoiler alert no one killed her, the lack of a seatbelt was responsible for her death it's not some great who dunnit murder mystery. Hmm

OP, please supply further details, don’t give us half the story!

I think it might be Netflix. So likely to be quite sensationalist and nothing groundbreaking I’d bet!

This. There was a proper enquiry. The driver had been drinking and he was speeding and lost control of the car. Had Diana been wearing a seatbelt, the expert opinion was that she would have survived.

Sethera · 29/08/2024 19:34

There have been many investigations into the various theories surrounding Diana's death - all have come to nothing.

In the highly unlikely event she was killed by MI5 or similar, do you really think they're ever going to say "OK, fair cop, guv".

The overwhelming probability is that Diana died because she wasn't wearing a seatbelt and the car was being driven dangerously.

This series will just be tedious rent-a-mouth z-listers droning on about their pet conspiracy theories.

I'm no great fan of Diana or her family, but for goodness sake, let her rest in peace!

Thursdaygirl · 29/08/2024 19:36

I’ve just googled this, there are several articles about the series, but none of them says which channel, date or time?

Ooooh, I wonder why?

[makes woo noises]

😀

I won't be watching it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Being in a car crash - deliberately engineered or not - is no guarantee that someone will die. Millions of people crash cars every year and survive. If I were a competent assassin, I would look at a much more certain way of arranging to kill someone, like shooting them in the head several times. They'd be very unlikely to survive that.

And that's why i've never taken the theory seriously. I'm truly astonished that people think an assassin was paid to engineer a car crash to kill Princess Diana.

The seat belt aspect is rarely mentioned. It’s the elephant in the room.

IAmATorturedPoet · 29/08/2024 20:43

The events of that evening have been investigated and poured over many, many times over the last 20 or so years. I’m fairly sure her family could do without yet another documentary being made.

If you get into a car with a driver who is under the influence of alcohol, drives at 120mph straight into a pillar and you aren’t wearing a seatbelt the outcome is not going to be good, sad to say. I really don’t think it’s anything more than a tragic accident.

I’ll be giving it a swerve.

The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe, mentioned in the Tatler article from the same producers, was on Netflix. I wonder If they had anything to do with that plane with a banner in the sky during the ESPY award. I will be surprised if they have anything new to say.

Nadeed · 30/08/2024 00:18

I have read allegations that the seatbelt was not working. Diana's sister gave evidence at the enquiry that Diana always wore her seatbelt.

It’s very unlikely that Diana’s seatbelt was broken and even more unlikely that everyone else’s seatbelts were broken.

All four people in that car chose not to wear a seatbelt that night, only one survived.

Nadeed · 30/08/2024 01:38

Why is it unlikely?

I had a good friend who always wore a seatbelt. The one time she didn't, on a short trip, she died in a minor accident. It happens.

BemusedAmerican · 30/08/2024 02:55

Let's see if one of those planes with the banners flies over midtown during the U.N. convention.

There is no evidence that the seatbelt wasn't working - that would have been the first thing to come out, as it is pertinent to the cause of death.
It doesn't matter if Diana regularly wore one. She didn't that night.

Serenster · 30/08/2024 06:27

Lady Sarah Fellowes did say that Diana always wore a seat belt - but Diana was a highly photographed woman and we can see from that coverage that her sister was wrong - Diana often did not wear seatbelts.

Including when leaving the Ritz on the night of the accident - Diana sat side on with her back to the window to “spoil” any paparazzi pictures. Doing so,it would have been impossible to wear a seatbelt.

Serenster · 30/08/2024 06:33

Also, the likelihood that the car Henri Paul was driving was tampered with was vanishingly unlikely. Dodi and Diana weren’t expected back at the Ritz that evening - they had changed their plans literally while en route driving from Dodi’s apartment to a restaurant where they had a booking. Once at the Ritz when they decided to go back to Dodi’s apartment, they made a last minute decision to change cars and drivers. The car they had been using while in Paris was driven to the front of the hotel by its driver to act as a decoy. Henri Paul went to the hotel’s garage to pick up a car from the Ritz fleet to drive Diana and Dodi back home from the rear entrance.
