These are celebrity appearances, as @Likewhatever says. It's the bit of royalty they like; being photographed, filmed, feted, special, given microphones and platforms for whatever version of word salad they're promoting that day.

OlympicWomen · 21/08/2024 07:18

@Bontonbonbon you're probably right. Plus they were so popular and so supported in the beginning; it would be hard to admit that it was all too much. It had to be someone else's fault.

My heart breaks for the woman who lost her baby. I cannot believe anyone could be so disinterested in another human being so courageously sharing their story. Shows you how good the palace PR machine is that this didn't become mainstream.

It's awful, poor woman.
MM was more worried about her camera angle above all else.

It always stunned me that they took Meghan's friends the Mulroneys on the Australian tour. Just brought two extra people to hang out and have fun with while on tour. Can you imagine any other brf member doing that?

They'd be slated for it.
In contrast to what is always claimed, I think the Sussexes got favourable press.

StrawberryWasp · 21/08/2024 07:51

That video shows how different M is from Diana.

Diana may have been needy for attention and played the press, but she genuinely reacted with empathy to people in the moment. People could feel it and you could see it.

Diana would have got up sat next to the women and held her hand. She'd have done it instinctively.

CoffeeCantata · 21/08/2024 08:10

Oh my goodness - I'd never seen that video. I blushed while watching it - it was painful. That poor woman. Yes - the pp who said she was just focused on getting soppy optics of interacting with the babies (for the film) was right. She is a piece of work for sure. And the irony is that it's clear she's not a natural with infants - but Diana was, so Meghan, who is Diana reincarnated, must appear to be too.

It just shows that the evidence is all there, either on video or in Meghan's own words. She's a nasty person, and I'd give her a massive swerve in real life. But how much longer will her supporters on here claim 'you don't know her!'. They must be unaware of what's out there or maybe are just blinded by her clothes and superficial glamour, and nothing else matters.

StrawberryWasp · 21/08/2024 08:29

My rule in RL: keep far away from anyone who self declares themselves as 'Compassionate'.

a) They lack the self awareness to know what a dick they sound.
b) They are trying to control their image instead of letting you judge their actions over time.
Therefore:
c) They are invariably extremely limited in their 'compassion' to opportunities that make them look good.

MM is the epitome of this. Her speeches about how she washes through with love and kindness (or whatever) just make me want to hide behind the sofa with second hand embarrassment.

She doesn't understand: get on with living your life and others will judge how compassionate you are.
It is not for you to self declare what a great person you are.

The fact she doesn't know this tells us she's missing some fundamental social awareness.

upinaballoon · 21/08/2024 08:40

I can't go through the last two pages of posts and say to most of you 'excellent points', but they have been.

I was on holiday on the continent of Europe when they went to S.A. BBC World was on the TV in the hotel room and that is where I had the first real sight of Archie, when Meghan carried him up the steps to go and meet Desmond Tutu. It was super, an absolute winner of a shot. A few days later Tom Bradby talked to them both and it all went sad.

Edit to say it went sad from where I was looking.

EdithWeston · 21/08/2024 08:45

I think it’s high time the FCO responded to this, it’s clear Charles isn’t going to. I feel for him because Harry is his son but if he continues to avoid dealing with the Sussexes things will only get worse

What sort of response did you have in mind?

I think the "grey rock" is working very well. I doubt very much the FCO would ever comment in public about non-governmental tours by celebrities resident overseas. If the host country's government ever raised an issue that H&M had commented on, then surely a bland response on diplomatic channels simply stating that they did not represent HMG would suffice?

OlympicWomen · 21/08/2024 08:50

I think we all know that these people don't represent HM Government, or the HoS, however much they cosplay.
However, they're foolishly wandering into that kind of territory and should be warned.

Begs the question why have they gone to Nigeria and Columbia if they hated royal tours? 🤔

Because this time it’s all in their own terms and they’re making money from it. I don’t think Meghan ever wanted to be expected to do things for the RF without being paid for it. She conveniently forgot about the houses, cars, security and free clothes .

OlympicWomen · 21/08/2024 08:55

She appeared to assume it was more of a money making enterprise than being part of a constitutional monarchy.

I guess they like the tours where they only get to meet happy, healthy, dancing people. Like Royal tours of colonial times.

Yes, it's all a bit regressive, isn't it.

It's true. I never heard about this at the time but didn't pay it much attention. This is crazy!

TBF I think J Mulroney was her stylist at the time.

They, themselves, could make it clear that, although they are visiting a country for this and that reason, they are not representing the UK, even though H is the son of the King.

They could make it clear couldn't they?
So when in Nigeria, the National Anthem was played and Harry inspected the troops, he said clearly that he wasn't an official royal, did he?
Of course not! We know why!

They obviously don't care what people in the UK think. We know what they think of us. They are promoting themselves round the world and will use every trick in the book.

The article does say the Mulroneys were there in an unofficial capacity alongside H+M's staff of 12, and they were expected to pay their own expenses. Whether they did or whether we the tax-paying mugs did, who knows 🤷‍♀️
