It's just nonsense, isn't it.
In what possible way does Harry "empower" women?
Do you think they actually believe this utter garbage?

Is that a poke at William and Catherine, perhaps? Harry gives his wife precedence in everything, from walking into a room, to who gets to speak first, and he stands back (although some might say, grudgingly). William and Catherine adhere to royal protocol about which one of them is the actual heir and which the spouse and who takes precedence. Meghan's form of feminism is to either stop Harry having an equal share of centre stage, or to patronise the hell out of him as if he's a toddler that needs praise.

So the ways in which Meg talks about being empowered and empowering women through her work:

1/ Dish soap story from 30 years ago
2/ Parents network just launched. Its empowering women as mothers???? Very tenuous link.
3/The community hub project she was part of when she was a working royal. So 2018/2019. nothing to do with Archewell
4/Empowers her 3 year old not to sit in silence.

Thats it? That’s how she’s empowered and how she empowers other women? that’s just embarrassing that she has such a big platform to talk about having achieved very little in the area that she’s supposed to be very passionate about.

Funny how she didn’t use the example of how empowering it is standing over a hot stove in the kitchen making jam and wrapping the pots in little bows.

Just to add, that would be typical MM. Not interested about empowering women, just interested in who can empower her.

Just about sums it up yes.

Though you have left out another important description ... massively hypocritical

After the Spanish opening, Meghan went straight into the Fairy Liquid story… gave the audience some time to take in the sheer magnitude of her 11-year-old self, then sort of segued into Archewell Foundation work which is yet again described in terms that are clear as mud:

'Does it ever feel good to use your voice and no one hears you. That's not ideal.
So for us and the work that we do with our Archewell Foundation, certainly the work that we do as parents, as I do as a mother, is ensuring that young girls feel as though their voices are being heard, and also that young boys are being raised to listen and to hear those young women as well.
And the same goes for adult women and men. This isn't something that can be solely responsible and in the hands of just women.
Yes, we work incredibly well together as a team, but as my husband, is great testament to the role of men in this of empowering women, of allowing them to know that their voices are heard, starting at a young age all the way through adulthood, is key.
So at the Archewell Foundation, we are very, very dedicated to creating a sense of community, but also one in which women are heard and that their ideas are really felt and implemented in the programming that we do.
So we just recently launched a program called the parents network, which is for parents who have lost children or have encountered the worst possible challenges and level of grief as a result of online harms, and allowing those mothers, those parents, to be heard, is very key to the work that we're doing.'

What is she saying? It doesn't make sense. She talks about giving a voice but never about how she has done that. Even the dish shop story wasn't reaaly her own actions. I get the feeling whenever she feels passionate about something she just has to say it / write it and it will happen. There's actually no action on her part beyond that is there? Am I missing something?

4/Empowers her 3 year old not to sit in silence

There is an opinion column in the Telegraph today that completely takes the piss out of her for saying her 3 year old has “found her voice”, but also pointing out that this is a stealth boast which could make others feel their parenting is inadequate. Way to go feminist sister Meghan 🙄😂😂

sausawyee · 20/08/2024 10:47

Why are all the videos of them out and about muted? No sound - is it to stifle any possible boos or other demonstrations?

On the BBC website they make the point that they can't verify what was going on, because there is no sound available.

sausawyee · 20/08/2024 11:03

To hide protests? The VP is regarded as contentious and only being attuned to the 6% of Afro Colombians that make up the population. There was a heckler just before Meghan's speech about trans women where Meghan just sat and grinned.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/08/2024 11:05

Worldwide censorship tour: they don't have the slightest in with the Dems. I live in an very blue state in the US, and can attest to the tides changing. Those ultra-work days are gone, and these two already look stale in those stakes. There's nothing they can bring the Kamala and Walz - ha, they'd actually be a liability. They lack pretty much every quality required to be useful: no gravitas, no influence, no reach, no money, no power, no desirable skills, no presence

Interesting you should say that, @Vabenejulio; the source is ghastly, but I was sent this just the other day ... not that it really matters because the chances of the notoriously thin-skinned Meghan succedding in politics were nil anyway: nypost.com/2024/08/17/entertainment/meghan-markle-would-like-to-appear-at-democratic-national-convention-but-her-influence-is-at-rock-bottom-source/

I know, right?

The thing is, many people will listen to her and think that there may be something wrong with them, that they're not quite getting what she is saying.

Whereas in fact, it's her.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/08/2024 11:26

Just seen your link, @hepsitemiz, and many thanks for that
You're not wrong about the increase in hyperbole; it means absolutely nothing and the endless buzzwords such as compassion, love and the rest are hardly reflected in the way they behave so can be safely ignored

As for the hilarity of the P&G story being trotted out yet again - and right at the start of the speech - I'm reminded of the tedious old uncle at parties who has just one anecdote and insists on telling it no matter what, while everyone else rolls their eyes

To drown out the lack of fluent Spanish.

Harry empowers women? Talking about losing his virginity? Talking about the matron of the school? Saying that his brother settled for Catherine? I'm not seeing much empowerment here or is he a reformed character?

@Vabenejulio

Harry’s visa: this is about diplomacy, nothing to do with Harry the man. They’ll do the same for Rishi Sunak when he inevitably moves to Malibu. They would and do do the same for anyone it benefits them to stay the right side of (in this case, the British royal family). It doesn’t take much. It’s all a red herring anyway: Homeland Security have enormous discretion. They’ll do whatever is expedient whenever they want. It’s a joke to think Harry would be treated like a non-royal in terms of taxes, visas etc. From Guantanamo Bay to Montecito, there are different rules for special cases.

A sealed, ex parte order been issued by the judge in the case. The rumour is that Harry is on an A1 Head of State visa. How or why would he have received this? And if he is on this visa, he's been breaching it, hasn't he, in working and earning as a private citizen, not to mention undermining the state he's purporting to be the head of. Also, shouldn't he be registered as a foreign agent or whatever when he's doing work encouraging Americans to vote (democrat)? It's all so strange! Have you heard anything locally?

I think a lot of Brits are going to be upset if he's on an A1 Head of State visa, too.

I've never found a single piece of evidence that Harry is anything other than a typical over privileged oaf.

Because they have merched the visit. News outlets have to pay AFP agency for audio footage.

Making sure that his granny has the right people around her, because obviously she can't make that call herself.

Which apparently referred to her long term dresser and confidante, who Harry took exception to. She wasn't deferential enough to Meghan, obviously.

To drown out the silence of nobody/very few people turning up ...
