The King is in Southport. Meeting the bereaved, the survivors, emergency workers and those who helped clear up the streets. Shining a light on those who have suffered and those who have helped in a way that brings the focus to them not himself.

What a contrast.

And no pontificating and giving out advice. It's thinking of others. Something H & M don't know much about.

Exactly. Working royals learn that it isn't about them, it's about the people they meet

DuchessOfPort · 20/08/2024 17:21

I’ve just looked at the coverage of the King’s visit to Southport and reread his original statement expressing sympathy to the families of the victims. Concise, well put and sincere. He’s undergoing treatment for cancer and probably doesn’t feel all that well and he’s so good at this stuff. There is no comparison.

I like the fact that this news comes under the "Entertainment" section

But where else would have been suitable, @LaMarschallin?
Without any real influence, integrity or even common sense, entertainment seems about all they have to offer now, though even that sometimes has to be watched through the fingers

And yes, the video of Meghan showing complete disinterest in a bereaved mum was hideous, but did anyone really expect anything else given that the subject wasn't herself?

OlympicWomen · 20/08/2024 17:56

In all honesty, @Puzzledandpissedoff , it's still a bit of a shocker.

I wonder why it hasn't been shared on other platforms (unless it has and I missed it) ?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/08/2024 17:58

True enough, @OlympicWomen, but then in the old phrase it's possible to be shocked but not surprised ...

jeffgoldblum · 20/08/2024 18:23

Reported by sky news Australia, is this true?

I wonder if the Meghan lovers are watching this, and if any of them would like to try to justify it??!

"Well, nobody asked if she was all right!"

£1.5 million in security costs. I wonder how much the presidential plane ride cost too. All for publicity shots for the Archewell site.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13760873/Security-Harry-Meghan-royal-tour-cost-poverty-stricken-Colombia-million-claim-furious-official-slams-vice-president.html

Talking of security and Harry’s claim that facts not safe in the UK, it seems to be safe enough for The Queen to wander around Ballater with her DC and DGC with only ( very) discrete security .

I seen that. Really shows him up for the utter fool he is.

Let’s remember that Camilla was hated for years and the infamous Sun headline about Diana calling her ‘The Rottweiler’

Yet, she is perfectly safe and he isn’t?

sausawyee · 20/08/2024 20:27

Oh dear that video - it wouldn't have taken much to get up for a minute or two would it?

elessar · 20/08/2024 20:33

SidekickSylvia · 20/08/2024 15:42

Wow, thanks for linking that Viques. That poor woman, opening her soul and telling Meghan about the loss of her baby and Meghan's body language is 'Shut up, there needs to be photos of me playing on the floor with the babies, not of my profile while I'm listening to you.' While the bereaved mother told Meghan about her HIV diagnosis, M actually turns away, looks at a baby and smiles. Very uncomfortable viewing, and as the video ends I realised I had my hand over my mouth.

It really is horrifying actually. That she has the nerve to talk about giving women voices when this is such a clear cut example of her absolutely not giving the tiniest damn about anyone other than herself is astonishing.

Was this the same tour that she did the ITV interview and complained that not enough people had asked if she was ok?

hepsitemiz · 20/08/2024 12:30

Ooof... "Rhiannon, don't behave like this"

Who the hell???

Not just that but the "what? Ask them!" He says at first.

The sub text being, I got nothing out of it, I was just gracing these peasants with my princely presence, go ask them how much it meant to them.

He genuinely sees himself as a superior being. It's very ugly.

StartupRepair · 20/08/2024 22:21

If Meghan was like that on a tour with cameras, can you imagine what she was like in real life with Harry's friends and with his family?

BigWillyLittleTodger · 20/08/2024 22:25

Imagine what she is like with staff.

friendlycat · 20/08/2024 22:50

BigWillyLittleTodger · 20/08/2024 22:25

Imagine what she is like with staff.

That video really does show how narcissistic she really is.
I think the fact that eighteen staff have left demonstrates just how awful they must be to work for. Then add in the latest “not a good fit” who left just before this tour. It speaks volumes.

MeandBobbyMcGoo · 20/08/2024 22:51

My heart breaks for the woman who lost her baby. I cannot believe anyone could be so disinterested in another human being so courageously sharing their story. Shows you how good the palace PR machine is that this didn't become mainstream.

Andylion · 21/08/2024 00:19

Regarding that video, in many pics of Angelina Jolie’s charity work, Angelina is sitting on the floor. I think that is the image Meghan is aiming for.

BemusedAmerican · 21/08/2024 02:30

Mark Toth, once again explaining how H & M are undermining national security for the US & UK:

It would appear so as these are South African women and the Tom Bradby interview was filmed in South Africa. I could imagine someone unwell or in high turmoil may not be able to cope with hearing this woman’s story and could try to refocus the situation on something less intense, eg the children. If this were the case, she was too vulnerable to go on tour. Harry said he struggled with tours. So if they were too gruelling for both, why go on more tours once no longer expected to do so? The whole thing is so illogical even when looking at them as a vehicle for self promotion.

OlympicWomen · 21/08/2024 05:56

@Mummyoflittledragon you make a good point. I think both of them struggled with tours, Harry has said he never liked them. I think they both found the official royal life too demanding. I suspect it wasn't at all as Meghan imagined.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 21/08/2024 06:35

Begs the question why have they gone to Nigeria and Columbia if they hated royal tours? 🤔

These are not royal tours, they are celebrity appearances, and I wish they would be reported as such.

This is exactly the level of commitment they are capable of, all the razzmatazz but no depth, no substance, no purpose. A few organisations may get a token handout from Archewell. It will have cost the host country and its citizens much more.

I think it’s high time the FCO responded to this, it’s clear Charles isn’t going to. I feel for him because Harry is his son but if he continues to avoid dealing with the Sussexes things will only get worse.

Bontonbonbon · 21/08/2024 07:15

Reading between the lines: it does look like the wheels had really come off by the time of the South Africa tour. We might never know the reasons but what is clear from their interviews and behaviour is that they didn’t want to do it anymore and couldn’t be professional enough to finish what they started with some grace and dignity.

I do wonder if this is where all the resentment comes from- they weren’t getting their own way on the press control/ security/ brand merching so they just thought ‘fuck it, we’re going to use the media to put pressure on the Queen to give us our own way’ and it back fired spectacularly. And what we’ve seen since is the continued tantrum in response to the consequences of their own actions.

Harry must have know what the Queen’s response would be to something so embarrassing to the state as part of an official royal tour. But perhaps by then he was angry enough not to care what damage he did to his family/ country. They were there on behalf of the U.K. government. I get the feeling (especially based on the photos of their recent ‘tours’) that Meghan never really understood that. You can’t set your own itinerary because you are there in a work capacity.
