I expect there was a lot of traffic. Apparently there are some foreign visitors who are driving around in a huge convoy of armed vehicles with police outrider escorts and all the roads are being closed off. Totes ridiculous, but what can you do.🙂

How annoying. Are they fabulously wealthy unofficial royals with a gargantuan sense of entitlement?

Holding his hand AND clutching his arm. Seems a bit overkill!

She probably noticed him manspreading his arm along the back of the attractive translators chair at the dance thing, but couldn’t remember the Spanish for “ Hands off sweetie, he’s MY meal ticket,” so is reverting to the international language of possessive arm gripping in case anyone else thinks he is wandering.

Also a handy ( sorry!) reminder to H that they are a 21st century power couple who follow Montecito protocols not stuffy old RF conventions.

Bit of a long read but it’s a good one. Harry at 40

Theres some info in there too that I didn’t know. Usually royal stories are just a rehash of stuff we are already aware of.

Good points, @sausawyee . Also the late Queen would never have given speeches sharing her "wisdom" or lecturing people. Unlike H&M, she never claimed to be an expert on something she learned about 5 minutes ago. Same with Charles, Camilla, William, Kate, Anne, Sophie etc. that's because they have never approached engagements or tours as a source of celebrity, personal kudos, opportunities for revenue or arrogant condescension.
All of which is very evident in the Montecito Royals.

It's the "Turn up, See meeeee" tour

I have to say I do think it’s a failing on the part of Charles that Harry has turned out the way he has. He’s obviously been brought up with no real insight into his family history or protocols. No understanding of why things work the way they do. No loyalty to his family, no empathy, no insight. No sense of who he is outside that system, just a cypher for Meghan to put her stamp on. It’s quite scary.

And what about William then? He seems perfectly in tune with all of it.

No one seems to know. It’s all very strange. Rumours abound that they are trying to adopt a couple of Colombian children to annoy some allegedly racist relatives and get in good with Angelina. They picked out a couple at a school they went to visit but are a bit peeved that the kids only speak Spanish and aren’t actually orphans.

Yes that’s what’s puzzling. Of course Harry is to blame , but it doesn’t seem like he got the memo as a child and young man.

He's the male version of Bianca Censori. Thankfully he's not wearing see through clothes.

Thats the best comparison I have read so far 😁😁

We can be aware of Charles' failings without putting all the blame on him.

Harry reminds me very much of the many men who, after years of apparently happy marriage, meet another woman and completely rewrite history: they had always been miserable in the marriage, never really loved their wife etc.

In harry's case the divorce is from his family and he has rewritten his relationship especially with Kate.

Witchyandtwitchy · 18/08/2024 10:08

I just can’t see how they’re making money?

They’ve blown a fortune on a ridiculously massive mansion.
They must be paying for a lot of full time staff, including Nannie’s and security, PR bods etc..
The expensive clothes she wears can’t all be given to her surely?

I know he’s worth a fortune, but how long can it seriously last?
He wrote a book, she’s selling jam and dog biscuits.

Hughs · 18/08/2024 10:09

That Times article is interesting. This bit leapt out at me - already fretting about George overtaking him in popularity when George was still a toddler. I wonder whether part of the reason for going was this fear of being overshadowed by William's children.

In an interview in 2016 the prince, who once made his mark as the loveable rogue, dutiful soldier and loyal servant of the Crown, told me of his fears of becoming irrelevant. “I’m in this privileged position and I will use it for as long as I can, or until I become boring, or until George ends up becoming more interesting,” he said. “There’s nothing worse than going through a period in your life where you’re making a massive difference and then suddenly, for whatever reason it is — whether it’s media or the public perception of you — you drop off. You want to make a difference but no one’s listening to you.”

But look at George VI and his brother David. Same parents, one dutiful King and the other, a lucky escape for the country.

It isn't the parents it's who they are. Some people are naturally keen to serve others (Anne) others are only out for themselves (Andrew).

They flew yesterday on the Presidential plane. The equivalent to Air Force One.

How on earth are the Colombians ok with this? This must be costing millions in security and now the president plane. Harry and Meghan have no shame. The UK govt are going to have to do more to make the world aware, that they aren’t representing the UK.

Hughs · 18/08/2024 10:12

Obviously many royals do continue to be relevant and do a lot of good and important work without ever being the heir to the throne, but maybe Harry couldn't handle that idea.
(The strike through wasn't me btw.)

Yes true. I don’t really think it’s Charles’ fault but I do wonder if he was adequately parented by either parent. I think William has benefitted hugely from being part of Kate’s family.

Has there been anything more happening with her jam? Has ARO been launched yet?

What's with the scruffy boots?

Hughs · 18/08/2024 10:18

They look like they've swapped boots - I remember DD and her friends were always doing that at primary school 😂

Harder to get them these days. I think M&S still sells them. Don’t know why more don’t, couldn’t do without mine.

Thanks for this @Hughs this is exactly what’s happening now and it’s all of his own doing.
