Harry looks like he’s struggling this tour. Think Meghan is trying her best, but what can she do
when he’s behaving miserable in public

Holding his hand AND clutching his arm. Seems a bit overkill!

If they'd stayed in the royal family this would absolutely be their time to shine. They could have taken a few quiet years with their babies but made the odd balcony, coronation, jubilee appearance etc to keep their royal stardust.
Then right now would be the perfect time for them to have taken the royal mantle with Charles and Catherine recuperating and William wanting to stay close to home.
They would be the stars of the show, glamorous tours all over the world, they could have been our representatives at the Olympics, lots of high profile gigs would have gone their way as everyone else is out of commission, they would literally have had their pick of everything they wanted.
This must be crossing their minds, even if they can't admit to it out loud. They gave up everything they are striving for now, it's a sad situation all round and there don't seem to be any winners.

So very true!

Why does she clutch on to him all the time? It looks weird.

Twistybranch · 18/08/2024 06:28

His behaviour in public is so up and down, I would hate to have a partner where their temperament is unpredictable.

I’m finding the whole thing extremely odd. If they want to do these kinds of tours then why did they quit the royal family? What is their goal in visiting countries like Nigeria and Colombia? I just don’t get why they’re there in the first place, let alone what they’re trying to achieve. Can anyone explain?

They love being royal. They love the titles and the privilege. They love publicity and being the centre of attention. So they're not official royals so they've created an alternative royal court. Overseas tours are part of that vibe.

The further change of outfit, cream top and white trousers was to meet people in the town square. They were there 20 mins before they left in their convoy.

20mins? It actually looked liked the one place people had come to see them and they didn’t stick around.

Harry clearly looks unhappy and I’m guessing this has something to do with them leaving.

It says they left because the sun was setting, but

  1. It looks bright enough in the photos
  2. Why wasn’t the itinerary planned better to take account the time of day
  3. They wouldn’t have suddenly been plunged into darkness, so why the rush

so that doesn’t make sense. Think there’s an issue going on in the background

Actual crowds (not carefully invited attendees) means people with camera phones and unvetted footage being posted. Plus the possible exposure in a walkout situation of Meghan’s limitations with the Spanish language when not making a rehearsed speech. Possibly they wished to avoid a negative crowd reaction - apparently Colombian twitter has been brutal about the VP hob-nobbing with these two.

Thedom · 18/08/2024 07:25

OMG, this is absolutely cringeworthy, this cannot be how they expected the visit to turn out!! It's like the worst show on earth, throw in their body language, which is the polar opposite of each other, (Harry being utterly miserable), the no audience nor crowds, and it has to be the most farcical event ever seen.

Sure. Apart from being a serial liar and working for an org that wants to shut down free speech.

I love reading your posts. So much wit and knowledge all rolled into one.

MrsLeonFarrell · 18/08/2024 07:35

The Mail quoted one of the VP's press releases about part of the visit. Assistents she did this for every single event they went to, it reads,

'The visit of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex represents an alliance committed to change [and an] opportunity to understand the dimension of the social transformations necessary in Colombia... to continue building a country that respects diversity.'

I'm not sure they have chosen wisely by accepting this invitation from someone who is clearly using them for her own agenda.

I guess this is how celebrity charity visits go or those UN ambassador visits that some celebrities do. Minimal press and local interest that depends on the calibre of the celebrity involved.

This is the world they move in now and if it wasn't that the tabloids love click bait, I bet we would've see much less about them even in our press. It's just they have nothing new or valuable to say about the so called reasons for their events.

I do wish people would write and speak in plain English.
All this means nothing.

I think the fancy words are meant to cover up the fact that it means nothing.

I think she imagines they look like a ‘young couple so in love’ when in fact they look like a jailer and her captive.

Meghan directs Harry with hand contact but I also believe Harry at times needs emotionally anchoring. The photo feels more about reassurance and a “we’ve got this”. Normally I don’t judge a frame but this is from a video footage. He does not look well

In which case they shouldn’t be doing these ridiculous tours at all. They should go home and look after their children.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 18/08/2024 08:06

Harry has made the bed he’s lying in now. I have zero sympathy.

I honestly don’t think he is well either.

@BackToWhereItAllBegan you're absolutely right. They could have had an amazing life as you have said. They werre created VPs of the Commonwealth Trust and so could have travelled all over the world representing the monarch. They could have met heads of state and dignitaries from all over the world, engaged in interesting and personal issues and would still have time to raise their children in privacy. Above all, they would have total security. They could have had it all, really.

Except Harry didn’t want it. But now he is having to do a low rent version, and without back-up and support.

I just looked at the daily mail link above though and it had a couple of pictures taken at almost the same time as that one and he looks perfectly happy.

If someone took 20 pictures of me in 4 minutes I reckon there would be more than one of me looking furious/worried and I can assure you i am happy.

Anyone putting a photo up has chosen that one for a reason.

I must say I am both bemused and amused by the photoshopping on of hair in the official pictures.
