Sure. Apart from being a serial liar and working for an org that wants to shut down free speech.

I mean in the context of choosing to re-wear clothes. She's done nothing wrong.

elprup · 17/08/2024 23:35

I’m finding the whole thing extremely odd. If they want to do these kinds of tours then why did they quit the royal family? What is their goal in visiting countries like Nigeria and Colombia? I just don’t get why they’re there in the first place, let alone what they’re trying to achieve. Can anyone explain?

Peter Noone, Herman's Hermits. 'I'm Henry the Eighth, I Am' was a genuine classic of its genre.

He still knows how to wear a nifty jacket.

Earworm now rooted.

I’m ‘enerying myself silly.

She not rewearing clothes. She’s wearing the same styles in different colours and patterns.

I can't believe they have gone straight from pronouncing on the dangers of children having an online presence and how they protect their own children from all that - to using random Colombian children for photos that they can sell for people to use online. I mean, can they really be too thick to see the hypocrisy or don't they care?

Also Harry's slip-on shoes make me feel a bit ill 🤢

Indeed and then there are the security issues/threats?

Walking with children when they believe they themselves need so much protection?

A shield for Harry but who gives a shit about the children?

The very thing they are talking about - exposure on SM yet Meghan is commandeering some little girl to be in all her SM. Something's not quite right there. I will keep my two at home but plaster someone else's child all over the media. It's sick!

They wanted to escape the control of BP in a nutshell.

elprup · 17/08/2024 23:40

It’s very baffling. But also rather entertaining. I get that they wanted to escape the control of BP, but doing these sorts of tours with no discernible platform or purpose just seems very strange!

Not2identifying · 17/08/2024 23:45

@elprup In January 2020 when they announced they were stepping back as senior royals, they announced they would still do trips abroad and 'collaborate' with the Queen. This is them attempting to do that. Ever since they left, they have been intent on trying to make the Royal Family regret that they refused the Sussexes permission to do things the way they wanted them to be done.

One of the things they don't seem to have understood, though, is that the Royals who 'play the game' the way it's meant to be played, attract less and less attention as they get older. As H&M attempt to behave like 'traditional' Royals, the public isn't that interested, just as it wouldn't be if they were still in the fold. What does attract attention is when they break all the rules, but that involves insulting his family which is the reason they have a platform in the first place and whenever they have done it, it has generally resulted in a decline in their popularity. They are in a catch 22 situation.

I follow the royals for entertainment and these two provide that in spades!

Edited

Everyone is bewildered.

This is from the DM article:

A senior Opposition politician in Bogota told The Mail on Sunday: 'Perhaps the backdrop matters not. They [the Sussexes] seek cultural relevance and want to make an impact.
'They talk of being a global brand, so it doesn't really matter where they go in the world to highlight their causes.'
And one of Ms Marquez's predecessors, former Colombian vice president Francisco Santos said: 'I cannot understand for the life of me why they [Meghan and Harry] are here.
'Of all the great black politicians in South America they go to her – she's a laughing stock.

'Who else will she bring here on the basis of watching Netflix? She will wrongly assume it will improve her public image.
'But there is nothing in this trip for the duke and duchess.'

I saw him in Panto when I was 10. He wore a gilet.

If they’d stayed within the royal family they could have had it all. They’d have been superstars, with a unique platform to publicize causes they care about and do good. I can’t help wondering if they regret their decision.

If they hadn’t been so fast and loose with photoshopping in hair, the locals might have twigged who they were.

StartupRepair · 18/08/2024 00:32

The purpose of this trip is to support their brand by generating photos of them looking like royals. Looking like people who need massive security, red carpets and a little dais to sit on. Colombia is just the backdrop to a photo shoot.

Yes. The problem is that they just look silly, silly, silly doing so.

It just doesn’t work and this really makes it so obvious now that it’s not working. I really don’t know where they go from here as surely they can’t undertake another pretend “royal” visit like this again.

Harry knows the difference and surely even he must think the number is up on this faux style type gig. I know he wants to keep Meghan happy but surely this is everything he wanted to escape from and that was when it was properly formatted with a royal purpose representing the UK with a solid platform.

They really have got themselves in a right old pickle. The spiral downwards is so evident and even they must be aware.

BackToWhereItAllBegan · 18/08/2024 04:28

If they'd stayed in the royal family this would absolutely be their time to shine. They could have taken a few quiet years with their babies but made the odd balcony, coronation, jubilee appearance etc to keep their royal stardust.
Then right now would be the perfect time for them to have taken the royal mantle with Charles and Catherine recuperating and William wanting to stay close to home.
They would be the stars of the show, glamorous tours all over the world, they could have been our representatives at the Olympics, lots of high profile gigs would have gone their way as everyone else is out of commission, they would literally have had their pick of everything they wanted.
This must be crossing their minds, even if they can't admit to it out loud. They gave up everything they are striving for now, it's a sad situation all round and there don't seem to be any winners.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 18/08/2024 05:45

Where they will go from here is honing in on the shield that is Invictus, probably. First the build up to Canada, then the build up to Birmingham. How the former will fare in the absence of the man whose brainchild a winter games had been, former CEO Dominic Reid, will be interesting. It’s the only thing that has brought Harry positive press to date, but that’s because they have been able to keep a lid on any financial scandal with regard to his expenses. Let’s hope the new leadership allows some light to shine on that.

Otherwise they will be debriefing on Colombia with The Aspen Institute as to how would be authoritarian, Marxist regimes suppress the internet, hoping Trump doesn’t get back in, hoping the visa case goes away, ignoring African Parks, briefing People magazine on the predictable and tedious “will they, won’t they come to Sandringham for Christmas?” narrative. Maybe Meghan will produce 50 jars of mince pie filling? I guess the Netflix cooking series may materialise before the year is out.

Urrrgghh. Not nice.

I don't like to see a stranger's child used like this. It's one thing to talk to a child during an engagement, perhaps sit next to them at a school, but this is too much.

OlympicWomen · 18/08/2024 05:55

@BackToWhereItAllBegan you're absolutely right. They could have had an amazing life as you have said. They werre created VPs of the Commonwealth Trust and so could have travelled all over the world representing the monarch. They could have met heads of state and dignitaries from all over the world, engaged in interesting and personal issues and would still have time to raise their children in privacy. Above all, they would have total security. They could have had it all, really.

I hope Noone would pass comment if Bob or Jon or Gary wore a little Patagonian gilet.

I don’t know who Noone is but I’d quite like to hear their opinion on that.

😂I think Harry has been criticised for his boring polo shirts, awful jeans and those hideous slip on shoes. Oh and the messy hair and beard.
