And not only monarchies, but the aristocracy, landed gentry, farming families, family businesses.

He's obviously never read Jane Austen 😬

🤣 Harry is totally a Mr Wykham!

Actually think he's becoming more and more like Mr Collins.

Actually yes, good shout, all the pious preaching and zero self awareness. Meghan is his Lady Catherine - she’d have been a great proficient at everything if only she had learned!

Jane Austin would have really loved the Sussex saga, wouldn’t she?

Harry complains about social media yet it will be his revelations in Spare which could potentially do more damage to his children than any SM. Slagging off people right, left and centre from the matron to the woman he lost his virginity to. How embarrassing.

You're right of course, but not to worry; he can always blame someone else for that too - like the ghostwriter perhaps, for making tthe whole thing up, or the British press for how they reported it?

Or William for forcing him to write it as he wouldn’t apologise for having an extra sausage ?

It'll be the press. Or the RF. Or the ghostwriter. Or someone who didn't treat him with due deference at some point in his life.

It must be strange to live in a world where everyone else is in the wrong

Meghan is more of a Becky Sharp for me.

Thinking about it, I’ll bet Julian Fellowes gets lots of inspiration from her antics.

More like dangerous, wouldn't you say - at least to himself?
We all make mistakes, but it really can't be healthy to live inside a head like that

Becky Sharp is clever, and likeable for all her foibles, so perhaps not.

JADS · 17/08/2024 10:14

Harry could have had a career in the church, after all he tried being an officer and that didn't work out.

If he is claiming be wasn't trained for anything though, he's a bit of a prat. He was trained to fly apaches. As part of resettlement on leaving the army, he would have been entitled to attend a retraining course - he could have done bricklaying or plastering.

I remember reading an old 'Wills is lazy article and there was a sentence tacked on the end of paragraphs of lambasting William about Harry doing less. His press was always more favourable, he just never realised.

The Beano and Dandy annual are still books though 😁

William can write ‘sorry’ on some sausages, inspired by Meghan’s banana platitudes.

I never found in her in the slightest bit likeable. Thackeray almost certainly intended her to be a villain.

Are you referring to depictions in films?

False conceit: why is Vanity Fair's scheming heroine misread on screen?

In William Makepeace Thackeray’s novel she’s an amoral social climber – yet in adaptions Becky Sharp is warm and relatable

They don’t seem to be able to think long term. If they had, they could have their moment to shine this year with both C and K out of action. Yes he was the spare and you take the flak for the heir, but you’re also not answerable when things go wrong in the same way. It’s not all bad.

PoppysAunt · 17/08/2024 21:14

It's brilliant being the spare! You get the titles, money, status and privilege, you get to go to all sorts of amazing events, meet heads of state and famous people and don't have the constitutional responsibility!

Not2identifying · 17/08/2024 23:53

And your kids get more choices and freedom about what they want to do with their lives. The heir's kids (or the monarch's kids) are much more limited. That would be a really big consideration for me if I were marrying into a royal family.
