JADS · 16/08/2024 08:45

I've watched the interview and Harry comes across as an absolute idiot in it. Meghan comes across as insincere and lacking empathy. To be fair Jane Pauley has a very weird interview style, but the whole thing comes off as awkward and uncomfortable.

Yes he does. Preaching about something you know very little about will absolutely make you look like a complete idiot.

Meghan is insincere because her motivation behind this initiative is self serving.

JADS · 16/08/2024 16:30

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/08/2024 11:23

Having watched it myself I agree, JADS, but unfortunately "awkward and uncomfortable" is what you tend to get when people with little expertise are interviewed on a serious subject and try to set themselves up as experts

It's true though that Pauley didn't give them a very easy time, so probably she'll also be on the spit list now ...

I agree with this.

I think Pauley pushed them harder than usual. The question about Meghan's ideation was interesting. I'm trying to decide if it was pre approved or not. I can't think that it couldn't gave been, so the leaks about Meghan being upset the next day seem, I don't know, curious. An attempt to highlight it or perhaps to blame Pauley for it being inappropriate?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/08/2024 16:44

I agree it's highly unlikely that H&M would agree to anything that hadn't been pre-approved, @JADS, but there's nothing to actually stop a journalist going off script and slipping in a "surprise"

This leaves the interviewee with the choice of thinking quickly on their feet (unlikely IMO with these two), refusing to answer, or even outright terminating the interview

Unfortunately only the first option could avoid them looking bad, and once that happens it's hard to come back from no matter what moaning's done afterwards

PoppysAunt · 16/08/2024 17:03

  • ain't gonna happen with Meghan and Harry 😂

Probably not, no, but while it's years since I did my media training the sort of thing I had in mind was asking the interviewer to "clarify the question" and then turning it around as a way of getting off the hook

It's done all the time but isn't apparently something H&M are capable of, so it's hard to say whether they really haven't been advised or just haven't listened

I find them both very disconnected from their children in the way they speak about them. Generic, unrealistic, passive aggressive. Just unlike any other parents I have ever heard.

I agree with this, it strikes a wrong note somehow. They talk about them as though they are abstract ideas.

Singingseals · 16/08/2024 17:45

I actually now feel really sorry for their children. Imagine having to grow up and read all this ridicule of your parents. They are literally a laughing stock and the criticism isn’t limited to batshit corners of the internet, it’s gone mainstream with even previously supportive publications like The Guardian having a pop. I can’t imagine what it will be like to become aware of this about your own parents and seriously hope for their sake that their antics will become less prolific in the coming years.

Mummyoflittledragon · 16/08/2024 17:56

I’ve also been thinking about how sad this all is for the children. The claims to want to keep them out of the spotlight are so contradictory. Unfortunately a level of self reflection is required, which isn’t forthcoming from either parent.

I feel sad that they have no relationship with the wider family and their parents seem more interested in getting themselves in the headlines than being at home with them.

PoppysAunt · 16/08/2024 18:27

Dear lord someone should warn them not to read "Spare" 😱

I can’t say I feel sad as I think the wider family will be the better for it, but it does leave the Sussex children in an extremely vulnerable position. They drew the short straw the minute they were born.

I was in the Balmoral area a few days ago and it occurred to me that Archie and Lili would love it there . Acres of grounds to run around, hills to climb and a castle to explore with their cousins. Maybe a wee trip into Ballater for sweets ( I remember Diana taking W and H).
Residents of the area are very protective of the RF and there is complete security.

PoppysAunt · 16/08/2024 19:07

It's a gorgeous place, isn't it @Mylovelygreendress . They get privacy and as you say, the locals always respect that.

MummyJ12 · 15/08/2024 16:57

I saw this in response to the NY Post article and thought of your post @BunnyLake. You’re absolutely right.
(I hope you can read it as I screenshot it, sorry if it’s a bit blurry!)

That’s utterly deranged. I think people will be thinking twice about working for them. No wonder she can’t get a CEO.

PotatoPie111 · 16/08/2024 19:35

I find it bizarre Harry complaining he was a spare, so he left to be a poor quality fake royal instead. There’s zero self awareness.

That’s why I wish an interviewer would ask more probing questions. Who cares if they throw their toys out the pram. Get the tantrums on film and out there in the public domain.

It’s so frustrating and a sad indictment on modern, mainstream, transactional journalism, that seems to be based on securing a steady stream of clickbate and advertising revenue rather than the truth.

He’s now the spare to Walmart Wallis. He isn’t the “spare” because of being second born. He’s the “spare” because of his mentality of victimhood and his weakness of character.

PotatoPie111 · 16/08/2024 22:30

I know he complained he was trained for nothing, but William held down an actual job for several years. With him being a legend in aviation youd think there would be plenty of options.
Hes a classic, bitter he isn’t in charge, doesn’t want to do the work though, type.

You’d think his time as the ‘spare’ was some kind of unique position only he has experienced the way he goes on. There’s been a spare for centuries in every country that’s ever had a monarchy. He’s incredibly immature for a man who’s forty soon.

sausawyee · 17/08/2024 00:35

Harry complains about social media yet it will be his revelations in Spare which could potentially do more damage to his children than any SM. Slagging off people right, left and centre from the matron to the woman he lost his virginity to. How embarrassing.

And not only monarchies, but the aristocracy, landed gentry, farming families, family businesses.

He's obviously never read Jane Austen 😬

Yes, I was just thinking that any land-owning family, including small family farms, usually have one who carries on with the farm and the others do different jobs. It might not always be that the eldest child takes over, whereas it is with the RF. Same for family businesses, as you say.

I haven't read this thread through. Damn. When will I find time?

Aerialpigeon · 17/08/2024 08:05

Yep, I married a farming “spare” he always understood that it wouldn’t be his farm and has forged his own path in life
