Sussex Whiplash

ConstantGarden1 · 17/07/2024 23:14

Sometimes, all the different media outlets who purport to know the inner workings of all things Sussex can give me whiplash. One moment the Sussex duo are on the outs with everyone, hemorrhaging or devoid of influential friends, making no headway with Netflix, losing money, can’t afford their mortgage and claimed to no longer be relevant. Then Suits saw an upsurge in viewers - fantastic ratings on Netflix, the BBC buys Suits, Invictus is being promoted via Harry’s award and trips, he receives a heartfelt standing ovation, Meghan finishes filming a new Netflix series purportedly linked to a nascent commercial venture and a new podcast is set for next year.

‘Lonely’ Harry, as some will insist on writing, is also not something that rings true for me. He has too much charisma, energy, interests, causes and is a people person. I also cannot think of anyone who needs to say I am friends with x, y, and z on a regular basis for the benefit or not of strangers. We don’t know who they are friends with, really. Meanwhile, pundits continue to engage those interested in the couple with whatever they can attributing the information to some made up mysterious ‘sources’. I suspect their real friends are quietly keeping their own counsel. Especially, now they have seen the mutual pathological loathing that Harry and the tabloids have towards one another. Can’t say I blame them either.

Now there is this:

Invite You to

Cocktail Reception 6:30 pm
Dinner & Program 7:30 pm

Considering Whoopi G had less than favourable words for the couple I’d like to have been a fly on the wall at any meetings held. No doubt ‘netizens’ will have their microscopes to the ready to give us all their ‘insights’ regarding the events of the evening. No doubt I’ll get whiplash again when all their combined fingers hit the keyboards.

Nonsense, there were all kinds of comments about it here. Quite negative. Harry is an adult. Meghan was not raised by Charles? Why do people insist on infantilising them?

Quite. Reams and reams of posts about "Pengate".

And absolutely correct. Meghan can't use Charles as an excuse for bullying staff, That's all on her.

Spectre8 · 18/07/2024 12:49

Well it's nice to see a thread where it's not started off with the obvious comparison or trying to put other people down.

For some reason these two (H&M) must always be perfect yet other celebrities or Royals cane make mistakes and not be endlessly torn apart for it. Let's take for example King Charles who recently snapped at his aides as reported in the press infact there is video showing it...not one word on here by anyone yet had it been Meghan it would have been endless comment about how she bullies her staff and who is to snap at her staff and so on and on it would go.

But this is how it is here and I agree with you re. Ignoring

You note that it’s nice to have a thread that isn’t about comparisons then launch into immediately making comparisons, though. Why would you do that unless you enjoy it?

Gorgonemilezola · 18/07/2024 14:01

Spectre8 · 18/07/2024 13:43

The point is noone stars a thread about when charles does it. And it isn't the first time he has snapped at staff seems like tresting staff badly it's endemic in the royal family and apple doesn't fall from the tree does it...if he saw his father doing it no surprise children pick up same behaviour.

'Endemic in the Royal Family' - where did you get this from?

The Queen treated her staff well - many of them were with her for decades.
William and Catherine's household is known to be informal and co-operative.
I can't see Edward and Sophie as bullies somehow.

Well charles Harry meghan who else knows how many more remember they have signed ndas so most won't risk breaking that. But there is enough to show it's more than one person

TheRecollectionOfTheGhostsMayVary8 · 18/07/2024 14:10

Again with the ‘children’.

There comes a time in life where Harry - and indeed Meghan - have to take responsibility for their own actions.

I have been known to have an expressive face which displays feelings of irritation against my will. It is fairly common I should imagine.

The image of the face above is not too dissimilar to mine when I get irritated by hypocrites. And sometimes whatabouterers.

It doesn’t mean to say I have ever mistreated or bullied anyone though, which, if I’m not mistaken, Harry has admitted and it is something Meghan has been accused of.

If true, under that argument of learned behaviours, one could assume Meghan learned that behaviour from Harry.

Nice.

TheRecollectionOfTheGhostsMayVary8 · 18/07/2024 14:11

Apologies. Here is the face.

Gorgonemilezola · 18/07/2024 14:11

So Charles, Harry and Meghan......

Tbh if someone was struggling with a coat, I didn't have enough spare hands to help and someone was standing by watching (especially someone getting paid as an aide) I might be a bit miffed too.

There actually isn’t. The Sussexes have a history of high turnover up to present, the others do not.

The Sussexes think HR is there for them. Others understand HR is for staff.

As an aside , Thomas Markle is 80 today .

I'm really not sure about the Markle clan at all, they don't exactly do themselves any favours. However, going by Meghan's account alone, he was a good dad to her up until she became engaged to Harry. I hope he's able to enjoy this milestone in the best way possible.

Yet another 'scratch my back and I'll scratch yours' event. Wasn't Perry the one who loaned them a house during their 'fleeing'?

I clicked on that link, saw the name Tyler Perry. and just thought - 'oh, another you-know-what-circle' award.

He's Lili's godfather. He's stuck with them.

IcedPurple · 18/07/2024 14:49

Sometimes, all the different media outlets who purport to know the inner workings of all things Sussex can give me whiplash.

That's odd. Didn't you say that you just wandered over here by accident and have no real interest in the royals? Yet now you monitor all media coverage of them?

One moment the Sussex duo are on the outs with everyone, hemorrhaging or devoid of influential friends, making no headway with Netflix, losing money, can’t afford their mortgage and claimed to no longer be relevant. Then Suits saw an upsurge in viewers - fantastic ratings on Netflix, the BBC buys Suits,

Suits got good ratings because it's a lightweight, 'old style' long running series that some are nostalgic for. It also helped that it aired at at time when there was little new content due to industrial action in the industry. The Sussexes' contract with Netflix is neither here nor there. The fact remains that their only ratings success was the 'documentary' whining about being royal. That's not much to show for a lucrative 4 year contract. Whatever happened to 'Meet Me By the Lake' or whatever the name is of that series they were meant to be producing? Isn't it about a year since we heard about that?

Meghan finishes filming a new Netflix series purportedly linked to a nascent commercial venture and a new podcast is set for next year.

"Next year" is quite some time off, isn't it?

Most successful podcasters produce episodes on a weekly basis. Sometimes more often.

And let's get real, flogging jam and dog biscuits on the internet isn't exactly what their fans were expecting after the grand flounce 4 and a half years ago.

I think the parents of people like Beyoncé and the William’s sisters would be fiercely protective of their daughters. The hard work and sacrifice of their entire family is not to be confused with fame created by a marriage.

The mums would also be wary of someone looking for her next husband.

Support? Harry told you how it is within the walls. I think he knows more than any random would about his own family and how the palace operates.

What - the inveterate truth-twister??

Very good comment @Spectre8 (quote history). Always good to see a common sense, clear and non combative point of view.

As for the whiplash @ConstantGarden1 do what I do. Don’t read their sour grapes attempt to pull Harry apart. In days of old some of them would have tried to get the authorities to hang, draw and quarter him too just for the fun of it.

It is always good but that is not it!

There hasn't been an inquiry into alleged bullying by the King...

Of course not! The RF are famously decent employers and have staff for years.

Gorgonemilezola · 18/07/2024 17:08

There hasn't been any alleged bullying by the King has there? Just a snappinesd about a pen not working on one of the most stressful days of his life, and a request for an aide to help his wife on with her coat.

He was badly bullied himself at school though.

mayorofcasterbridge · 18/07/2024 17:12

Just read the whole thread and feel quite sick reading some of the tedious, obsequious rubbish posted! What is wrong with some people?!
