I'm glad she's feeling well enough.

(And of course all the chatter about her will overshadow critical comment about PoW travelling to the finals of the Euros when he didn't travel for the England team in the World Cup final last year)

upinaballoon · 13/07/2024 13:07

Of course it could be nothing more complicated than that she likes Mr. Alcaraz's legs.
No, I probably wasn't being serious.

Me? Nah. Now, Tommy Okker's legs......

GrazingSheep · 13/07/2024 13:11

Why is she attending the men’s final and not the women’s?

Why is she attending the men’s final and not the women’s?

As I mentioned upthread, the men’s final could be historically significant for tennis.

Serenster · 13/07/2024 13:16

Interesting to speculate of course about what she would have done if Emma Raducanu had been a finalist 😀

Iseeyoupekingduck · 13/07/2024 13:17

Why can't people just leave her alone? Shea not stupid she will do what she feels she is up to!

TheUndomesticGoddess · 13/07/2024 13:20

PaintedStones · 13/07/2024 12:46

What a surprise.

It looks like the people who said her attending trooping the colour was so that it wouldn't look so bad when she suddenly appeared to attend Wimbledon, were right. And her also work shy husband will be at the Euros. She's not bothering with the women's final? Just like William didn't bother with the women's football World Cup. What an awful pair.

Well said. They really are fucking lazy. She's ill now but that doesn't explain their lack of work before. I'm glad some people are questioning the lazy bastards.

Oof, what an awful thing to say. I hope the journalist apologised for being so ignorant.

dunno but they got a pretty good kicking for it.

Is that all people who are undergoing Chemotherapy and are not working or just the royals?

SentebalesChair · 13/07/2024 13:23

I name change for the fun.

I see others name change to be cunty.

T’was ever thus.

And despite accusations of others being egregious, it seems those who accuse are equally guilty.

Keep your peace?

My arse.

Why is she attending the men’s final and not the women’s?

Maybe because she wants to? Or it suits her schedule?

How about you, why do you do what you do?

Perhaps those of us who aren’t hard of thinking can see there’s a massive logistical difference between flying to the other side of the world and flying a couple of hours to Berlin on relatively short notice, and can find it in our hearts to forgive him.

AliceOlive · 13/07/2024 13:28

Yes quite. As pp has suggested, depending on your chemo schedule, something you might feel up to on the Sunday would feel like hell on the Saturday.

Also, whether it offends feminist sensibilities or not, the men’s final is both the peak and the grande finale of the tournament. It’s probably the event the LTA (of which she is patron) will want her to go to, for anything from TV ratings, to giving a boost to a washed out tournament that’s had to compete with the Euros, to giving a thank you to the staff on the last day.

The ghouls and republicans - calling her lazy, wishing worse treatment on her (which is tantamount to wishing pain or worse on another human being) because of the state of the NHS and benefits system, and blaming her for the words of a tabloid hack in order to boost whatever pathetic cause you are advocating for here - must live small lives.

Marbledwhite · 13/07/2024 13:52

thebluebeyond doesn't speak for the two members of my family currently undergoing cancer treatment.

The idea that an insensitive, stupid remark by one journalist would leave a lingering, painful feeling of resentment is ridiculous to them, especially as one of them works in a profession frequently unfairly derided in the press.

And no, neither is working constantly.

AutumnCrow · 13/07/2024 13:52

GrazingSheep · 13/07/2024 13:11

Why is she attending the men’s final and not the women’s?

Because she's always wrong?

Wronger than a wrong thing. Everywhere, all at once. Her wrongness is omnipresent, like a quantum entanglement of error. His wrongness is indeed so legendary that I bow down to its magnificence, to its disturbing majesty, its industrial-scale errant hegemony of all the mistakes of the whole world wrapped up in one fucking size 8 frock.

Is that the script we're looking for, on this fine day?

p.s. The All England Lawn Tennis Association aka Wimbledon pumps millions of £££ into charitable endeavours, but I expect she steals that and buys rugs and cruet sets in TK Maxx.

TheTripThatWasnt · 13/07/2024 11:01

Interesting that she's going to the men's final, not the women's (which would be shorter, and an easier gig).

As annoying as this is to us ladies, the men's final is the match that people care about the most. I'm guessing also that she's bringing Prince George, as she has done before, and it'll be the men's match the prince will be interested in. Personally, I prefer to watch women's tennis and, as a doubles player, I much prefer to watch doubles but....

I hope she has a wonderful day; she's had a tough year.

Remaker · 13/07/2024 13:59

I went through chemo last year. I am fucking sick to death of people who have no idea proclaiming how everyone works through it or nobody works through it.

If you know one person who’s done chemo then you know one person. There are myriad cancers and they all have their own treatment regime. Plus the individual differences between people means you really can’t extrapolate. Just listen to the person who is sick and believe them.

I was really unwell at one point during my chemo. I was signed off work but I managed to go to my uncle’s funeral and on the weekend to a sporting event for a team I support. A couple of days later I was hospitalised. I can’t imagine what it would be like if the whole country was bitching about how lazy and work shy I was because I dared to do things that mattered to me.

It’s an incredible feat for a Stepford Wife (Scobie) and an approved for conformity not for love (Harry) woman to malfunction in this manner. She clearly needs a thorough re-programming.

It’s really fucking grating. Most women I know only very rarely get to do whatever they like for even a few hours. I’ve spent my morning dealing with a bunch of things I don’t want to do but must and now doing admin volunteer work. Quietly now, because others in the house are sleeping. Waiting for shops to open so I can sludge out and get things I don’t feel like getting.

Why on earth should any woman, especially one going through cancer treatment, be questioned about why she’s doing what she’s doing on the rare occasion that it might actually be enjoyable?

PopSockette · 13/07/2024 14:06

thebluebeyond · 13/07/2024 11:19

This is the exact issue - it is nothing to do with the woman herself, I don't care what she does or does not do.

it is the response, which has lead to unbelievable anger and distress among other cancer sufferers and their families.

I never used to care if we had a royal family or not, and had no interest in them, apart from feeling vaguely sorry for them,

But having seen the attitude in the press, particularly calling other cancer sufferers "lesser mortals" I think they HAVE to go. Many others I know feel exactly the same. We cannot tolerate a society where poorer people are considered "lesser mortals" when coping with a life thousands of times harder than that of the person they are being compared with.

The attitude that this reveals is the reason the monarchy now has to go. I wasn't in favour before, as I understand the long drawn out legal process involved. And I didn't think it mattered much either way.

But this "lesser mortals" comment has really ignited something very wide spread, and it isn't going away.

And again, we have yet more of the same attitude here. She wont be the only cancer sufferer at Wimbledon. But look at this. A whole thread set up to praise her to the skies for....what exactly? A miniscule effort, which is nothing at all compared to the efforts other people are putting in to their battles to keep their head above water with cancer.

It is this attitude to her, rather than her herself, which has started this wave of republican feeling.

The institution HAS to go. We are in the 21st century FGS. Poorer people are not "lesser mortals"

Very well said.

crumblingschools · 13/07/2024 10:39

Surely instead of bitching at the Princess of Wales people should be campaigning for better sick pay, so can raise the bar for everyone not lower it for her and other people who can afford to be off work whilst undergoing treatment

Agree with this.

I was very lucky when I was having surgery, treatments, drugs and was immune-suppressed, because both DP and adult DS between them were able to juggle looking after me while working changed shifts and I was able to do some work from home when I felt well enough.

I did get PIP which was helpful too, but it was a horrific slog to claim PIP and be assessed, and to have to go through it all again just two years later.

I would love for things to be better for everyone. It's good if cancer care, long-term illness and finances become a national conversation, for the right reasons. The right reasons are about ethics, morality and doing no harm, not tilting at windmills.

It just seems to prove the point that women’s sport will always be inferior to men’s.

This has been a very enlightening thread. I'm getting a much better understanding of the rise of Puritanism in the UK.
