See, for me, that would be along the lines of purposefully saying that someone was being a bit of cunt. It doesn’t change it.

Work is work.

Cunt is cunt.

Maybe for some it’s also work to be a cunt?

Hang on don't the royals live an outrageous life of luxury where every bit of work they do is a delightful, easy doss that every man and his dog could ace with their eyes shut ?

Yet you seem to be suggesting that some royal engagements aren't quite so fun as others 🤔

If you read, I did purposefully say 'slightly more like work'. Attending engagements where it's guaranteed everyone will be polite and smile and hang on every word you say, is hardly what most people call work. But yes, doing something for a mental health charity won't be as 'fun' as a day out watching tennis.

I think it makes much more sense to ease in by slotting into existing events rather than planning new events that have complex logistics and risk disappointment of a late cancellation.

Purplebunnie · 13/07/2024 21:52

I can't believe the vitriol that is spouting forth

I can only conclude that your lives are so miserable that it has made you all so bitter and twisted and jealous

A sick woman is going to watch a game of tennis

Get a bloody grip

And vicious vipers - yeah they're pussycats compared to you lot

I can’t make up my mind if it is innate or voluntary.

Imagine being paid to be a cunt though. Fun for the birth certificate of offspring.

There are rumblings that indicate we may find out if it’s a paying job to do so on twitter.

It is a certainty that 1 or many more of you will be diagnosed as terminal within the next couple of years.
Think on.

Or bankrupt and not paying your creditors whilst swanning around high on the hog.

Shameful.

Just when you don't think they can sink any lower. They're out in force today, NC'ing all over the shop but unable to hide their true selves.

As you said, shameful.

Oh lord that reminds me of Derek and Clive (Peter Cook and Dudley Moore) and the recording of their letter-writing diatribe, when 'Clive' wrote 'civilly to them at the World Council of Churches, I wrote, “Dear Cunts In Charge Of Religion,” you know, familiar,…'

Their 'worst job you ever had' recording is not for the faint-hearted.

If you think for a moment, instead of being sneery and cynical, as pp have said, if she were to do something “less fun” and then she was not well enough to turn up, she would be
letting people down. The tennis will happen whether she is there or not as pp have said. She can also take a “time out” from sitting and watching and should she feel unwell she can leave and the Duchess of Gloucester is on standby to present the trophy. Maybe she wanted to have something to look forward to and had the Wimbledon final as her goal. Who really gives a flying fuck anyway. She has been unwell and I cannot imagine begrudging her some “fun”

I also suspect that if she didn't go tomorrow she knows all hell would break loose on the speculation wagon.

Chartreux · 13/07/2024 22:52

TimeWheel · 13/07/2024 21:30

Too bad she's not well enough to do any of the less fun stuff that's slightly more like work. How fortunate that she's ok to watch the tennis though. After she was seen in public for an event a few weeks ago, it was never in doubt that she'd be at the tennis.

When a friend of mine had a break from chemo he went to a football match. It took his mind off his cancer and gave him a much-needed afternoon out. No-one suggested he should have gone to work instead, in fact his boss went to the match with him. No-one for a moment made sarky comments about how "fortunate" he was to be able to go to the match.

How petty and nasty do you have to be to object to a sick person having an afternoon at a sports match?

Runnerinthenight · 13/07/2024 22:56

thebluebeyond · 13/07/2024 11:19

This is the exact issue - it is nothing to do with the woman herself, I don't care what she does or does not do.

it is the response, which has lead to unbelievable anger and distress among other cancer sufferers and their families.

I never used to care if we had a royal family or not, and had no interest in them, apart from feeling vaguely sorry for them,

But having seen the attitude in the press, particularly calling other cancer sufferers "lesser mortals" I think they HAVE to go. Many others I know feel exactly the same. We cannot tolerate a society where poorer people are considered "lesser mortals" when coping with a life thousands of times harder than that of the person they are being compared with.

The attitude that this reveals is the reason the monarchy now has to go. I wasn't in favour before, as I understand the long drawn out legal process involved. And I didn't think it mattered much either way.

But this "lesser mortals" comment has really ignited something very wide spread, and it isn't going away.

And again, we have yet more of the same attitude here. She wont be the only cancer sufferer at Wimbledon. But look at this. A whole thread set up to praise her to the skies for....what exactly? A miniscule effort, which is nothing at all compared to the efforts other people are putting in to their battles to keep their head above water with cancer.

It is this attitude to her, rather than her herself, which has started this wave of republican feeling.

The institution HAS to go. We are in the 21st century FGS. Poorer people are not "lesser mortals"

Why in the name of everything holy should the RF "have to go" because of some crap comment made by some random journalist? Pretty twisted logic right there!

because it might have been a random crap journalist that made the comment, but an editor approved it and a national media outlet published it, and that illustrates an attitude that cannot be accepted any more. We cannot have a society where it is acceptable to view poorer people as "lesser mortals"

Gorgonemilezola · 13/07/2024 23:01

So tell that to the press moguls.

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 13/07/2024 10:40

I'm glad she's feeling well enough to do this now. Hopefully this means she'll be back to her normal duties. Otherwise, I agree it doesn't look good - it looks like she's just choosing to do the things she enjoys best. Either she is well enough to be out and about, or she's not - she can't just choose her favourite engagements!

Edited

Fucking hell really? I'm a republican too but she's an actual human who has been ill. Surely if she's feeling up to the tennis that's good news, and I hope she has a great day.

What a surprise.

It looks like the people who said her attending trooping the colour was so that it wouldn't look so bad when she suddenly appeared to attend Wimbledon, were right. And her also work shy husband will be at the Euros. She's not bothering with the women's final? Just like William didn't bother with the women's football World Cup. What an awful pair.

Charming!!!!!!

Oh ffs. Some journo wrote and some editor approved “Freddie Starr Ate My Hamster”. Thank god society is populated by people with critical thinking powers. It didn’t start a dangerous societal trend of hamster eating. Us plebs can be trusted to understand hyperbole. Woe betide our footballers win tomorrow. Some journo is bound to call them gods or super heroes or something that makes those of us who only kick a football averagely feel inadequate. We’ll have to abolish football to stop people thinking they are lesser beings because they can’t bend it like Beckham.

Runnerinthenight · 13/07/2024 23:16

PopSockette · 13/07/2024 14:06

Very well said.

So you are also saying that the RF is to blame for a comment made by some journalist that most people have never heard of? What a fucking reach! It's just ridiculous. I would be embarrassed to come out with such crap!

AutumnCrow · 13/07/2024 23:16

It's almost as if there's a movement out there to curb the freedom of the press and freedom of expression ...

'Telegraph rent-a-gob Allison Pearson causes Republicanism, societal shift and repeal of the First Amendment' is pretty much up there with 'Freddie Starr ate my hamster'.

Didn't he have to go and pretend to care about homelessness for an hour or so the next day, so that he could make it look like he actually did some work in case England got to the final, which he was never going to miss.....unlike the women's final. He doesn't do much if you look at the number of engagements over the years.

100%. I was disgusted that he didn't go and support the women in their final. I don't believe for a second that he'd have missed the men's final.

Yet if he'd gone you'd be whining that he'd just gone on a jolly and polluted Earth!

AutumnCrow · 13/07/2024 23:20

Also Allison Pearson, who let's face it was out of her depth as a TV reviewer, caused outrage with her 'lesser mortals' remark. It's how opinions operate in countries with the valuable gift of freedom of expression.

No, I mean actually being present at genuine grass roots sports events, rather than playing with tennis champions or attending charity bashes.

Oh do catch a grip!
