"My wife and I join all our family in wishing you the warmest congratulations on reaching the final of the U.E.F.A. European Championship - and in sending our very best wishes for Sunday’s match.

If I may encourage you to secure victory before the need for any last minute wonder-goals or another penalties drama, I am sure the stresses on the nation’s collective heart rate and blood pressure would be greatly alleviated!

Good luck, England.

Charles R"

I think it's great and interesting to see more personality and humour coming through in a message like this.

@Uricon2
Would be the same William who's apparently on 'light' duties due to his wives illness?
He appears to be cherry picking what he does eg football matches and concerts.

As ever, the royal family are taking the piss and totally misjudging the nation. It's tiresome.

I'm not suggesting it isn't 'real' but there's no way your King (he's not mine thank goodness) wrote it - I understand a little more why people adore the royal family when such naivety is displayed!!

And yes, I imagine a lot of players rolled their eyes at such a load of patronising rubbish.

Well he may not have actually written it but he probably discussed it and agreed what he wanted to say. Why wouldn’t he have an input?As for the total sense of humour failure from some posters here 🙄😂😆

Well, it made me cringe myself inside out. If it makes people happy then OK.

I'd imagine a few of the team thought oh fuck off.

Reading your joyless posts I’m starting to feel the same way

I think the whole nation would agree that it is very stressful watching England play that way and we would much prefer them
to win emphatically and score goals early. It was a lighthearted message and would have been taken as such

Agree. The fun sponges are out in force

pocketheart · 11/07/2024 15:00

The irony of having a fan of the royal family comment on humour is just brilliant 😂😂😂

I'm generally full of joy but unfortunately after a full morning at my local food bank I don't see the 'funny side' of a pathetic thread about your over privileged, lazy and frankly embarrassing royal family.

PerkingFaintly · 11/07/2024 15:03

Given the late Queen not only agreed to be portrayed jumping out of a helicopter to open the Olympics, but insisted on playing herself when the director had planned to use an actor, it's not too surprising that her son also displays his sense of humour occasionally.

Did she tell you that herself? Honestly I find it staggering how gullible folk are 😂

We use these here: Grin

We do, however tend to have a higher bar before we roll them out

Nor my king either! But there's no way he didn't sign off on it. It's a light-hearted message on a light-hearted occasion. Don't understand the drama!

But then not my king and not my team.

Bonus points for shoehorning in your charitable endeavours

Finding the King’s message amusing and lighthearted and working at a food bank are not mutually exclusive 😊

pocketheart · 11/07/2024 15:15

@Pleasebeafleabite
Care to share yours? I'm guessing from your patronising response you have nothing to share?

I deal with parents who can't feed or keep their children warm, so excuse me for finding a thread about the royal family incredibly irritating.

No, the director did. Danny Boyle. Documentary on it. He talked about it in detail.

Obviously he was just lying and you know better. I'll leave you to polish your superiority complex, as it's obviously important to you. (And I don't just mean in your posts to me.)

pocketheart · 11/07/2024 15:17

@smilesy
You've clearly never used or helped at a food bank. What you've just written says it all!!

pocketheart · 11/07/2024 15:18

@PerkingFaintly
Anyone who despises the monarchy is automatically a superior being, obviously!!

PerkingFaintly · 11/07/2024 15:18

OMG, you didn't think I meant the Queen actually did the jump? Er, no. Grin

Surely they will soon be a thing of the past now Labour is in??

pocketheart · 11/07/2024 15:21

Judging what you've written elsewhere - I sincerely doubt it!

You know nothing about me and I know nothing about you. You are a random in the internet. I was just pointing out that being in difficult circumstances does not preclude anyone from having a sense of humour. You’re unpleasantness is not necessary 😊

It was said in all seriousness…
Presumably the food banks will disappear under Labour?
