Mary Tillman says " There are recipients far more fitting. He publicly disrespected his family , ran away from service to his country. He is unworthy of this award"

She feels there are recipients far more fitting.

I think she speaks for many.

Perhaps that will teach him something.

I doubt it.

@MummyJ12 oh dear that statement!

Mylovelygreendress · 01/07/2024 18:11

Is there a possibility that Archewell made a donation to the Foundation ?

Is there a possibility money didn't change hands, more like.

CathyorClaire · 01/07/2024 19:56

Well it's a US award and Harry lives in the US. I don't suppose many in the UK will have heard of Pat Tillman and the award before this story. But the UK press are reporting it - it's in the Sun and the Mail and the Telegraph, probably others.

I was thinking more of the wider picture really - the visa application, Invictus expenses, strangely deserted Archewell offices etc.

UK press don't appear to be very exercised by very much of this at all so it's heartening to see it gathering press attention of any kind.

His racist army video is being resurrected on X. First time I have seen it, dreadful racial slurs, people have been 'cancelled' for less.

That's a good point. No other celebrity would have got away with it.

IsoldeWagner · 01/07/2024 20:42

It's absolutely vile, isn't it, @Thedom .
To accuse others in his family? The worst kind of hypocrisy.

TallestSally · 01/07/2024 21:25

Just watched it again.

Racist wee toad.

ESPN have released a statement. This must be embarrassing for all concerned.

ESPN sound very defensive, and they clearly had not anticipated this reaction.

I bet they heartily wish they had made the award to the Invictus Foundation instead. Or perhaps the Warrior Games (especially as ESPN helped host it in 2022 - venue was their Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World in Florida)

He certainly isn’t honourable enough

I do not know whether this award is appropriate or not. What I do know is that people have double standards. Who amongst us, born into a pre-ordained life that we do not want might not opt out?

This often happens in farming families and causes problems - but the offspring have a right to pursue a different path in life. They are not see as dishonourable.

There are obviously accretions to the royal family's situation particularly in the form of the press intrusion and security issues, and playing all this out in the public eye.

Everyone has the right to choose their path in life - he is not refusing to "serve" - he is making sound decisions about his life and on behalf of his family.

I for one would be opting out of this dysfunctional family at the earliest opportunity!

I must agree with all you have said. It’s incredibly sad that the some of the media piles in on Harry. However, he keeps winning at life no matter how much some people twist the knife.

As Prince Harry said when he was told of the award this is one for Invictus. A worthy recipient. I find it more than a little strange that the Daily Mail approached the mother of the person the award was named after who has never had anything to do with the organisation. I hope money did not exchange hands. As for low rent Pat Mcfee he admitted he didn’t even know much about Harry and Invictus.

Awesome accolade and I wish them a fantastic night. Roll on the games.

Yup. No.

Pat McAfee appears to be with ESPN, so is relevant to these awards. As is Pat Tillman's mother - who no-one would have approached had she not spoken first.

It is a shame that if the intent was to honour Invictus, the award was not made directly to the Foundation by name. Harry would of course have been in the delegation picking it up. But the optics would have been so different.

I think this has backfired.

Usual negative fanfare which will die away soon enough. He has plenty of supporters. Some just don’t need to shout about him so much.

TallestSally · 01/07/2024 22:42

You are right @WinnieTheW0rm

No question about it.

I wonder if this will precipitate a shift in him slowly being edged away from being the face of Invictus.

IsoldeWagner · 01/07/2024 22:42

"everyone has the right to choose their own path in life". Indeed they do. It's a shame that Harry has chosen a path which makes money from invading his loved one's privacy, making all manner of unpleasant and unfounded accusations, and acting like a victim instead of a perpetrator.
"He's winning at life". I actually don't even know what that means. He's a prince, a multimillionaire, he's had every privilege in life and more opportunities than most of us could dream of. He's married and with two lovely children. He is indeed blessed. His behaviour is inexplicable.

His supporters can shout all they like.

It doesn’t affect what we’ve seen. What we keep seeing.

You have an opinion on his behaviour. Mine is different.

IsoldeWagner · 01/07/2024 22:47

Maybe his supporters could give him some sensible advice if they care about him.

I think you can guess my opinion.

Clue. It isn’t wrong.

Yet accused his whole family and let that hang over them.
Oh and styles his children "prince" and "princess" in spite of claiming they weren't allowed titles because of their possible skin colour.
Yes, there's an honest, honourable, content and happy man 🙄
