Mary Tillman says " There are recipients far more fitting. He publicly disrespected his family , ran away from service to his country. He is unworthy of this award"

She feels there are recipients far more fitting.

I think she speaks for many.

Possibly @CathyorClaire .
Also the reports from “ sources” that they want to reconcile with the RF and have “ reached out” to Catherine .

IsoldeWagner · 15/07/2024 10:26

A nice way to "reach out" would be to start to criticise some of the vile things said online about Catherine in particular, including some awful threads on here.
A general condemnation of smears and lies produced by their own supporters would be a good start.

TallestSally · 15/07/2024 10:28

I don’t think it would ever be enough.

there is no honour to the man.

His word is nothing.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 15/07/2024 11:20

I do wonder if this Diana truther stuff (those plane banners) is part and parcel of a "blackmail dad for money while he's alive" ploy. A desperate one at that. After all, who is it that would have wanted her killed? His dead grandmother and his ailing father are the only ones in the frame in the royal family. Otherwise, it might be part of a pitch for a Netflix series - tabloids and paps killed my mother sort of thing.

Hughs · 15/07/2024 11:32

I think parents often tend to blame themselves when things go wrong in families, at least in part. Siblings imo are less forgiving. So I can't see how H+M will ever have a relationship with the Waleses after allowing Kate to be called a racist, saying that W+K didn't marry for love, that W is trapped, that they need help raising their children, that Kate is cold.

That's leaving aside all the dumb stuff about who's balder, who looks the most like Diana, who had the best bedroom or the extra sausage. And leaving aside William witnessing all the upset suffered by their grandparents and Charles and Camilla, and the damage to the family's and the country's reputation.

William is known to be extremely protective of his family. Why would he ever let H+M anywhere near them now?

The narrative that Meghan has now graciously decided she is ready to "reach out" - that reconciliation is up to her and the RF have been waiting for her to relent - is completely laughable imo. Plus William is not a fool - he can surely see that this coincides with H+M's power, influence, popularity and, most importantly, income dwindling. Slagging off W+K probably seemed like a fun idea when HMQ was alive and William's ascension was years away. Not so much now that HMQ has gone, Charles is ill and it might only be a matter of months. Whoops.

IsoldeWagner · 15/07/2024 11:41

Indeed, @Hughs . They thought they were clever, feted, famous for themselves, popular, talented. It's not quite turned out to be the Shangri La they expected.

Article here estimates running costs for the moneypit at $4.4m a year and that was at 2020 prices:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8624433/Running-costs-Prince-Harry-Meghans-14-7m-mansion-reach-4-4million-year.html

I entirely agree W won't be subbing him. I wonder if Pa's diagnosis and the realisation he may have a shorter time than anticipated before W gets the purse strings is the driving force behind the flurry of reports he wants a property here in the UK?

(Sorry - I seem to have lost the power to just select the relevant bit of the post and the whole thing has appeared!)

As to H wishing to buy a property in the UK, he can well afford to do that. Harry is vastly wealthy, as we know, due to legacies from Diana - as well as other income streams. There would be no problem whatsoever if H & M just lived quietly and followed their interests in a non-publicity-seeking way, as private citizens either in the US and the UK. Their financial stress comes from wanting the A-lister lifestyle of private jets, entourages, security, eye-wateringly expensive dresses etc etc.

He could snap up a little house in London or an estate in the Cotswolds for around 5 million - peanuts to him. I don't buy the 'help - we're strapped for cash!' line. But they don't seem to want to live the quiet life and fade into the background, and that's the problem.

IsoldeWagner · 15/07/2024 11:45

He made a lot of money from "Spare". That would buy a nice house in the UK. Perhaps he could keep signed copies in the library for visitors.

CremeFresh · 15/07/2024 12:34

I wonder how many of these reports are actually true ? There are so many from 'sources' and 'close friends' . Would Meghan really have the front to contact Catherine?
I agree with everyone saying that the only way forward for them is to disappear for a good while, no more awards, no more court cases , no more sending jam to people, no more tours, just live quietly , away from any publicity .

IsoldeWagner · 15/07/2024 12:37

They're not going to do that, @CremeFresh ! These are people who live for publicity!

There are no depths to which he would not sink in my view.

I'm coming to that conclusion as well, @Locusteater

The latest from that direction is about Charles deciding not to invite Harry to Balmoral for the summer, but instead is thinking about inviting him for a week after the Queen and the Wales family have left.

IsoldeWagner · 15/07/2024 12:45

That's incredibly generous and forgiving of Charles. Far more than that couple deserve.

Harry Hasn’t been to Balmoral for years and years even before he met Meghan. He never used to go with the rest of the family.

Maybe he'll be tempted because it will renew proximity to the family for the purposes of merchandising their privacy.
Photos of the children with their grandfather the King 👑?
Also he may want to use the Bank of Pa.

Are you sure it's not just the King buying them one of those tour tickets with a cream tea thrown in?

That's actually a good idea. Harry might learn something from the tour.

I din't believe it for moment, though. I think it is the new UK PR guy pushing the narrative that Charles and H&M want reconciliation - so many planted stories on that theme since hecwas appointed - but Catherine in particular, and William less so, being meanies. There was one last week about Charles planning to hop over to Montecito but William forbidding it.

Edited

yes it’s all designed to make Harry and Meghan look like they are ‘reaching out’ but being rejected by the hard hearted Royals. Pathetic.

Hughs · 15/07/2024 13:35

And completely misguided too given their popularity ratings. There's little benefit to the RF in conciliation, there's a risk that H+M's unpopularity is contagious, plus many in the UK will think it's a weak move. On the whole, people don't like them and don't want them here.

Hence
Harry: "my dad is too busy to see me 🥺"
UK: "quite right too"

EdithWeston · 15/07/2024 13:46

Wil they/won't they go to Balmoral is the new annual tradition for the press to fill column inches as we approach the silly season.

I don't think it's meant to betaken seriously
