Mary Tillman says " There are recipients far more fitting. He publicly disrespected his family , ran away from service to his country. He is unworthy of this award"

She feels there are recipients far more fitting.

I think she speaks for many.

Tbh I can't imagine Meghan at Balmoral - she really doesn't strike me as being the country pursuits kind of gal.

If Harry and Meghan or their PR are pushing the line that they want reconciliation but are being rejected it's hardly going to help their case with his family.

I think Harry's realised there's not a never ending supply of funds, Meghan comes across as having pretty expensive tastes, and enjoying a lavish lifestyle, and there must be a certain amount of keeping up with the neighbours.

I wonder if this is the life Harry envisaged for himself when they 'fled'. They've burned so many bridges, not just with family but friends too.

But she never went when the late Queen was alive, so I don’t think it would wash as part of any documentary now. It would be obvious that they were going specifically for content

Makemydaypunk · 15/07/2024 14:20

I don’t think they would care how it would look to be honest.

Uricon2 · 15/07/2024 14:22

I'm sure Charles is gutted by the whole thing but he seems to be much closer to William now and I don't see him thinking a visit is a good idea, unless he can be behind the Balmoral front door brandishing a cast iron dog bowl on their arrival (and I wouldn't blame him)

They've repeatedly shown that any material is considered fair game and that they can't be trusted. Being hosted by their father sends out a public message that all is well, when I'd speculate that all is far from well among them, how could it be?

I think parents often tend to blame themselves when things go wrong in families, at least in part. Siblings imo are less forgiving. So I can't see how H+M will ever have a relationship with the Waleses after allowing Kate to be called a racist, saying that W+K didn't marry for love, that W is trapped, that they need help raising their children, that Kate is cold.

That's leaving aside all the dumb stuff about who's balder, who looks the most like Diana, who had the best bedroom or the extra sausage. And leaving aside William witnessing all the upset suffered by their grandparents and Charles and Camilla, and the damage to the family's and the country's reputation.

William is known to be extremely protective of his family. Why would he ever let H+M anywhere near them now?

The narrative that Meghan has now graciously decided she is ready to "reach out" - that reconciliation is up to her and the RF have been waiting for her to relent - is completely laughable imo. Plus William is not a fool - he can surely see that this coincides with H+M's power, influence, popularity and, most importantly, income dwindling. Slagging off W+K probably seemed like a fun idea when HMQ was alive and William's ascension was years away. Not so much now that HMQ has gone, Charles is ill and it might only be a matter of months. Whoops.

That's a good reminder as we do tend to forget some of the crap. There's no way on this earth that Meghan would reach out to Kate. I mean just look at that reception the other day - Kate looked amazing considering all that she has been through. She continues to shine in her role in the RF. She has taken flak right left and centre with the Sussexes and she has come out stronger than ever in her role.

The people up here would not welcome a jaunt to these parts.

There are a lot fiercely protective of the King and his family.

Harry lost that sentiment from people when he opened his nasty flapping mouth.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 15/07/2024 14:33

There was one of those planted US tabloid stories recently suggesting the Wales and Sussex children regularly speak via Skype (or Zoom or whatever), but in the next breath we have meanie Catherine won’t accept reconciliation that is predicated on her apologising to Megan about lipgloss and racism, and William has literal power over the Head of State and his wife preventing the travelling to Montecito for their summer hols (I mean Camilla in particular must be desperate to see the pair who described her as “dangerous” and willing to throw them to the press). It’s all utter bullshit that doesn’t add up one little bit.

I think Harry may well be hankering for a place in the UK. The Trump attack must surely focus his mind on the mad gun laws in the USA plus barring some exceptional event I thin a Trump win in the election (probably by a big margin) is almost a certainty now. He and M won't be happy living with Trump as president and they certainly can't expect any favours from that direction.

The problem is security, whilst the UK is a far safer place than the USA, he will want full security for wherever he lives. Which he will almost certainly have to fund himself except I think he would get it when performing public duties, but as a non working member of the RF there won't be much if that. If he hired his own security presumably it would be unarmed, so not the level he is used to or wants.

He is in a pickle.

I do feel sorry for the Sussex children.
George, Charlotte and Louis get to hang out with lots of cousins, Zara and Peter's children, Pippa's children and others from the wider family. They have two sets of adoring grandparents and lots of aunts and uncles. They get to go to great shows, meet Taylor Swift, enjoy Wimbledon and the football. Hang out together at polo matches and country events. And lots more that we don't know about.

Archie and Lilbet seem mostly to be locked behind those security gates. Presumably there are some friends with whom they have reciprocal visits. But that's about it.

It must be beginning to dawn on Harry that his kids are missing out on A LOT more than the odd extra sausage.

It's a great shame for them. Even if they did move back to the UK unfortunately H&M will not be welcome in the heart of the RF and the losers will be A&L though no doubt Charles would want to see his grandchildren. But it would be very tricky.

I've just read this is why Meghan wears such long dresses and trousers.

Except when she's wearing shorts, of course.

Did you mean that she is also unable to wear closed toe shoes? I do remember something about her having awkwardly shaped feet (icw why shoes often look to big), but I'd have thought she could have them made to measure

Hughs · 15/07/2024 15:04

Quite the contrast between the standing ovation for Kate at Wimbledon and H+M's reception at the ESPYs. Venus's expression: 😒

Especially when they were leaving. The hecklers were absolutely brutal.

I wouldn’t judge that as it sounds, at the beginning of the clip there is singing, that was a woman in the audience, so there was a microphone in the crowd being passed around

Agreed and yet the stalwarts will still claim that the RF are ‘dysfunctional’ (another bingo card favourite) when in fact it is clear that they are a wide and close loving family, the only dysfunctional one is Harry’s, I wonder how he will deal with the questions from his children as to why they have no contact with grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins on both sides of the family (let alone one being the most famous family in the world).

CremeFresh · 15/07/2024 15:38

They can't visit Balmoral even for the photo opportunities, didn't they say something about not exposing their children to the rest of the world? (I still can't understand why they haven't been papped , someone must have seen them out and about at some point)

One turned up, needed an onstage human shield to assure no booing, got given an award, and left early to heckling.

The other got a standing ovation, gave an award, and left quietly at the appropriate time.

Who knows for sure. 🤷🏻‍♀️ They certainly weren’t given the same warm or enthusiastic reception as Princess Catherine at Wimbledon. But she is nowhere near as divisive or as controversial as them so the huge support and cheers for her is, of course unambiguous.
