Mary Tillman says " There are recipients far more fitting. He publicly disrespected his family , ran away from service to his country. He is unworthy of this award"

She feels there are recipients far more fitting.

I think she speaks for many.

Just seen some footage. Harry looks really stressed in my opinion.

Yes he does

I watched the video @Serenster reminded us of Invictus and the BBC SPOTY and Harry was nervous but you could also see the pride and more importantly the respect of the audience. The jokes, laughter and the pride. It was quite emotional to watch

I will bet that many hot angry tears were cried after OW and Spare.

I would also think many silent tears of abject misery fell too.

I wish that man no harm, but I cannot feel sympathy for a man who chose to make others unhappy when it was in his power not to.

I cannot feel sympathy for a man who stays silent when others swirl misery in his name when he has the power to say stop.

You reap what you sow. He has a whole harvest coming his way.

TallestSally · 13/07/2024 17:20

Did someone say ‘he’s not my prince’ at the end of that clip?

Sounds like it. The exit wasn't even discreet 🤷‍♀️ it looks like people were angry that they were all standing about and blocking the view AND making a big scene with their departure. Why not try to be discreet?

Why not try to be discreet?

Why not just stay?

It would be gracious to stay to acknowledge the achievements of others.

Leaving early with lots of fuss (I’m a hugger see?) was nothing short of rude.

AliceOlive · 13/07/2024 17:28

Is that their entourage? It looks rather ridiculous. Can you imagine not being able to go anywhere without an assistant right there?

You are correct. They should have stayed. It was disrespectful.

From what I've seen, the audience as a whole was pointedly supportive of Harry. Standing up and clapping on cue, no booing (that I could hear).

Then he and his entourage ostentatiously leave before the ceremony was through. The audience must have been furious that they had shown grace, and H&M repayed them with boorishness.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 13/07/2024 17:57

Hmm, I think all the pointing was in response to whatever the fellow on the microphone was saying (he’s asking whether anyone wants to take the microphone) not gesticulating at the departing entourage. The woman at the end sounds like she’s shouting, “She’s not my….” , but I can’t decipher the last word. Not sure the crowd was hostile really, just indifferent to their leaving. It would be interesting to see the uncut video, though.

WRT no boos, slick operations like this pipe in cheers and clapping for TV audiences, to cover any shortcomings in enthusiasm.

JSMill · 13/07/2024 18:01

I can't believe they left before the end. That's so rude. I also can't believe the size of their entourage. Wtf?!

Locusteater · 13/07/2024 18:02

Who were the people making up their entourage, does anyone know? I just don’t know how they pay the bills.

BruFord · 13/07/2024 18:24

Rhaidimiddim · 13/07/2024 14:50

The justice is that their behaviour is losing them friends and influence, and with it the ability to earn the sort of money they need for their life-style. We only see and hear about the pubic behaviour, and that is bad enough.

I agree, @Rhaidimiddim and the key point is that it’s their behavior over the last four years that’s losing them friends and influence, not anything that happened before they left the RF.

Many Americans were sympathetic when they first left the RF (I’m in the US). If they’re losing popularity here, they’ve only got themselves to blame.

And I doubt that the A-listers people are side-eyeing them and putting distance because e.g. they called Kate a racist ( or anything else they said and did publicly).

I think they must have behaved obnoxiously at a personal level to these people they should be bonding with and whom they want as their tribe, in private situations. Think of how Harry slapped John Travolta down in public.

Mylovelygreendress · 13/07/2024 19:19

What he said to John Travolta was awful . The only person who “ dines out” on Diana is Harry .

IsoldeWagner · 13/07/2024 19:21

Dines out, exploits and helps fund a lifestyle.
Hypocrite.

What he said to John Travolta was awful . The only person who “ dines out” on Diana is Harry .

Travolta was offering Harry a classic Hollywood moment where he could have made a rejoinder along the lines of " Yes, my mum spoke about it often and <engaging anecdote in Travolta's favour> "and made himself an influential friend. Instead - royal froideur and a put-down that froze John's smile.

Shortly after that incident Kevin Costner (who was in discussions about making Bodyguard 2 with Diana at the time of her death) gave an interview in which he describes how he met William as a young man. He lays it on about what a charming young man he was and how, at one point, William leaned in and said " You know, my mum really fancied you".

Harry would have won rhe room if he'd said something similar in response to John.

I wonder what convos Harry had in private with Costner about Costner's ( tenuous) connection with Diana, and how badly Harry reacted to gain Costner's don't-give-Meghan-the-mic emnity.

Fat-finger edits.

Lady Glennconner (not sure I have spelled that right) did an interview with Tina Brown that was shared last week. She had the same nanny as Fiana. The nanny said that Harry was born angry. You can see it. It’s simmering underneath every interaction.

@Rhaidimiddim The concept of family is strong in many parts of the US and I think that Harry’s willingness to publicly speak ill of his family shocked a lot of people.

Of course many celebrities write books and give interviews about their lives, but it seems to have backfired for him.

Perhaps A-listers wonder whether he’ll tell/sell stories about them as well.

I think that interview is from last year but it popped up in my YouTube the other day and i listened to it while don g the ironing.
She's an amazing woman who has had an incredible life, and suffered greatly at times. It certainly wasn't all privilege. She carries no bitterness at all, and has just got on with the tribulations life has thrown at her.
I think she is appalled by Harry and his disloyalty. She joked a bit about the Spare title.
I hadn't realised, the nanny Barbara Barnes who looked after William and Harry when they were small had previously been nanny to the Glenconner family. Now there's a person who could do a tell all but who never has. What the Nannie's must see. When Colin Tennant, her husband, beat her with a stick such that she feared for her life, it was Barbara Barnes that nursed her afterwards.

I know staff sign NDAs but still, some keep very dark secrets and I don't think it is because they are contracted to do so.
