Mary Tillman says " There are recipients far more fitting. He publicly disrespected his family , ran away from service to his country. He is unworthy of this award"

She feels there are recipients far more fitting.

I think she speaks for many.

"But Harry, in my world anyway is just a lost naughty boy tormented by his past and his upbringing and deserving of our pity not our hate."

He's 40 in September. He's got access to the best mental health care available. There comes a point where people have to be judged as the adults they are and he is way past that.

I don't hate him BTW, at all. I wish he would grow up, stop blaming everyone else for his issues (including Kate, who wasn't even around during his upbringing) count a few of his manifold blessings and actually stop talking and start doing, because the perpetual victim look is not a good one.

Well said, @Uricon2. I want him to succeed in his new life and to do that, he needs to let go of his resentment and focus on the future. Being a perpetual victim won’t get him anywhere.

IsoldeWagner · 12/07/2024 14:52

a lost naughty boy
How utterly absurd. Everyone else has to take responsibility, not him?
Ridiculous

Vespanest · 12/07/2024 15:58

This lost little boy was in authority of heavy duty warfare. Harry is often infantilised whilst simultaneously being offered as a leader among men. Accepting awards whilst in hiding from African Parks. Harry is that boss that is happy to claim the accolades of others work but will throw anyone under the bus if something goes wrong. Similar to William and Catherine, erased from Invictus but blamed for the Nazi Uniform/managing Meghans suicide/ not making Meghan welcome/ the bullying (probably more). Always someone else’s fault.

IsoldeWagner · 12/07/2024 16:16

He takes the credit, but not the criticism. His fans have the same approach, only seeing him as a wounded child, not an adult with flaws.

The use of the HRH annoys me so much.

Me too. It's just so dishonest. Absolutely flaunting his royal titles, status and privilege. Yet couldn't cope with the responsibility of being a full time working royal within the institution.
What a hypocrite.

TallestSally · 12/07/2024 16:47

Aye. No shame whatsoever. The hypocrisy is staggering.

And worse. It looks like it is easily transmitted.

IsoldeWagner · 12/07/2024 16:50

I was interested in what you had to say about Prince Philip, @TallestSally . I always think private interactions are the most revealing, not what's written in the press. I'm glad he treated you with the respect you deserve.

GOTBrienne · 12/07/2024 16:51

It’s clear that his true personality has been carefully managed by the RF for decades. All I see now is another Andrew now, self important twit. He won’t ever give up his title, ever.

I know that he was drawing a comparison between his bond with Diana and the Tillmans’ bond-but I do wish that he’d stop talking about Diana. She’s been gone for so long now.

That's his USP though. That's what makes the dosh.
He wants celebrity and money. What does he have to sell? Not hard work, talent or expertise: just his royal status. He's the son of the King and the son of Diana. That's what he'll merchandise, for as long as he possibly can.

A couple of pages ago the schtick was his mother's words as to Harry's suitability for the award - the line deveoping now seems to be the charity is a sham. Quite a pivot.

Or a natural development?

Runnerinthenight · 12/07/2024 17:28

TheFirmBiscuit · 12/07/2024 10:13

I'll take that as a joke - it was a childish misjudged folly of youth. Whereas the Duke of Windsor should have been hung like the traitor he was but he got the royal get out of jail free card cf. Prince Andrew. I'm going to give Harry an 8/10 for this outing.

He doesn't deserve a minus 8 out of 10. Your standards aren't very high are they? He's an utter disgrace. Sick of him whinging on about his mother.

Has he no shame, accepting this award when the woman whose son it honours spoke out against him receiving it? Barefaced cheek of him!

It is this. Increasingly a load of flim flam attached to a title, the actual good work with things like Invictus being increasingly a source of publicity rather than an end in itself as it should be.

Sadly, I think monetising the rubbishing of his own family will continue, as there seems little of real commercial value to fund that lifestyle without it. It will look more and more shabby and desperate though as Harry is firmly out of the Royal loop for the foreseeable and no new material will be forthcoming.

IsoldeWagner · 12/07/2024 17:30

The more distant from the family, the more desperate he'll be. Any "award", any grubby interview, any chance for a quasi royal tour. It's so pathetic.

Its was a thing with some of the punk movement back in the late 70s - Sid Vicious and Siouxie Sue misguidely wore swastikas as a sign of rebellion and a desire to shock. Thankfully society has moved on from where that is any way acceptable.

Double standards much? "Society has moved on" - yet you invoked a dead man who would be over 100 years old if he was still alive? Seriously?

IsoldeWagner · 12/07/2024 17:40

It's all got a bit desperate @Runnerinthenight !
The Daily Mail article was about 90 years old 😂!

Runnerinthenight · 12/07/2024 17:40

TheFirmBiscuit · 12/07/2024 12:40

I won't pretend to understand or excuse the foibles of the British aristocracy - I'm sure the Queen Mother had her reasons for finding a Nazi salute funny way back when. A lady lest we forget was reputedly in support of Rhodesian UDI when white PM Ian Smith thwarted Zimbabwean Independence in 1965.

FGS when you are in a hole, stop digging! This is past history and had its context at the time. I very much doubt the QM had a crystal ball in 1933!! Fuck all to do with Harry in 2024!

The Queen Mother's alleged political stance in 1965 😂

I was aware and even had a go at reading the book online but it's unreadable. It's referenced tangentially in spirit in the Remains of the Day. The Daily Mail and Lord Rothermere infamously supported the Britsih Union of Facists under Sir Oswald Moseley. Lest we forget. But Harry, in my world anyway is just a lost naughty boy tormented by his past and his upbringing and deserving of our pity not our hate.Though I realise I'm in the minority here by some measure. I've noted that at least !

"A lost naughty boy" - you're actually hilarious! He's a grown-assed middle age man ffs, and a father of two! And one with every privilege known to man! Wise up!

If you watch him go up for his award, 2 WOC (beautiful lady in a green dress and her friend) neither stand up or clap and give some serious side eye. As was Serena’s agent, sitting behind them.

The lady in the green dress was Venus Williams, I believe. Many in the audience were neither standing nor clapping. Many had expressions that spoke volumes.

Thanks @RocketsMagnificent7 , I just saw that online. And a suggestion that there was some booing, although sometimes it’s hard to tell boos from oohs and Judes (as per the England team). I wonder if Venus has a rather more sober view of her sister’s relationship with the Sussexes and is concerned for her.

I'll get me coat.....

By which you mean...?
Do you even know what context that phrase is used in in the UK?
Although, I think it's a good idea.
Probably should have got it much earlier.

Yes indeed. I think most intelligent people have got the measure of Harry.
