Mary Tillman says " There are recipients far more fitting. He publicly disrespected his family , ran away from service to his country. He is unworthy of this award"

She feels there are recipients far more fitting.

I think she speaks for many.

If he does accept it, it will be interesting to hear how he is introduced "Welcome, Harry, Duke of Sussex, who has ........??"

Clearly dedicated himself to a life of universal self service?

IsoldeWagner · 30/06/2024 11:08

.... selling privacy of loved ones for money?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 30/06/2024 11:13

Can anyone see anything in that list of values that applies to PH?

I can only see that he is the exact opposite of them.

I can only see that he is the exact opposite of them.

The intellectual one gave me a good belly laugh, though. If you were to compile a list of all the things he isn't, it would be that one.

I don't think there's vitriol on here, it's all valid criticism. We're commenting on his behaviour, for which he provides ample evidence.

I said vitriol “over there.” In the US.

Oh, another thread/excuse to slag H & M off 🙄 I'm out of here. Enjoy your bitch fest 👋

No 'bitch-fest', as you so charmingly call a reasonable discussion.

Are you able to address the issue raised by the mother of Pat Tillman? Thought not.

Getting the sense that someone jumped into the thread a mite early without actually, y'know, reading it as it progressed and looked a bit of a tit as a result.

Hopefully his advisors step in and hopefully he'll listen to them.

Does he have 'advisors' though?

By which I mean people who are concerned for his best interests? Just like the much maligned 'grey suits' were?

I don't think he does. He has surrounded himself with people who only care about what they can get from him. And I don't think he's intelligent or worldly enough to navigate that world. As we can see.

smilesy · 30/06/2024 11:24

ESPN, who think are now part of ABC, air the coverage of the Invictus games so maybe that has something to do with it 🤷‍♀️

The event is being hosted by Serena Williams.

... whose own reputation is now being dragged down by suggestions that she made it a condition of hosting that Harry be given the award. Whether this is true or not, she is tainted by the event and her association with it.

Whoever is providing their (Harrys and Serena's) PR is not doing a good job of reading the current mood in the USA regarding Harry's perceived exploitation of American veterans.

Edited to add "perceived".

TallestSally · 30/06/2024 11:32

That is unfortunate.

I suspect it is very much untrue by the way.

Maybe it will mean yet another celebrity friend quietly disengaging.

No, of course not.

That's a shame, because I have a lot of respect for Serena and for everything she's achieved. I'm hoping that's wrong.

BemusedAmerican · 30/06/2024 12:12

The comments to this article rise some valid points. Particularly that Tillman died defending the US and its constitution while Harry considers the First Amendment to be bonkers. Also the shift in focus in recent years by Invictus from the Invictus veterans to Harry.

Pat McAfee rips ESPN for honoring Prince Harry with Pat Tillman Award: ‘Trying to piss people off’

Prince Harry being named the recipient of the Pat Tillman award left a stale taste in McAfee’s mouth.

Agreed, really hope this rumour is false.

Unfortunately for Serena, the rumour is out there and she is damaged by it. Her PR people should never have let this happen.

What advisors? He'd have had the palace machinery around him, a private secretary, courtiers, etc until 2020, but who is advising him now? From the stuff he's done and said, it would appear that Harry is advising Harry!

I think therein lies the problem. Up to 2020, he had a lot of advice and support. Now he doesn't and is making a total pigs ear of so much, because he seems to think he knows best and he doesn't.

BemusedAmerican · 30/06/2024 12:29

I was listening to a radio show last month that highlighted this organization
https://hiddenheroes.org/resources/hiddenhelpers/

They mentioned a camp for military spouses where they learned resilience while hiking, climbing, etc. I am sure this organization could help ESPN find suitable honorees.

Kids, Youth, and Families - Hidden Heroes

Generations of children and youth have witnessed first-hand the physical and emotional effects of war. In their childhood and adolescence, they have experienced more stress, anxiety, responsibility, and complex feelings than most of us will in our life...

IsoldeWagner · 30/06/2024 12:30

Yet he's done nothing but criticise the Palace advisors, who helped and supported him so much.

IsoldeWagner · 30/06/2024 12:31

That sounds like an excellent cause, @BemusedAmerican .

FloofPaws · 30/06/2024 12:39

Giving awards like these to people like Harry just makes them pointless, they need to go to honest, hardworking selfless people in the field - not fame and money guzzzling entitled idiots feeding off of veterans

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 30/06/2024 12:49

Surely the obvious thing PR-wise would be to say Harry is merely picking up the award on behalf of Invictus? Or is Harry so far gone that he wants his very own award?
