Mary Tillman says " There are recipients far more fitting. He publicly disrespected his family , ran away from service to his country. He is unworthy of this award"

She feels there are recipients far more fitting.

I think she speaks for many.

Not about that giant sausage though.

It isn’t a joke.

Nor is this.

folly of youth my arse

A terrible thing to do - he is a different man now who in this instance re racism fully recognises the errors of his ways - he must have learnt his racism from somwehere - maybe his grandad, he was notable for it though always dressed up as joshing.

Apparently it happened 8 months ago in Montecito too.

I met Prince Phillip. Twice.

He was utterly charming to me.

A woman of colour.

Harry was openly racist to those who served with him. Something the grown ups I served with never did to me or the other people of colour.

Now - back to Andrew. You brought him up after all.

Why is he so guarded about him?

And who is MUMI?

From a woman of colour, I say wow! Talk about an apologist for a racist. I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t excuse any other person who grew up in a modern, multicultural Britain on the basis that their grandfather said racist things. “I hear you’re a racist now, father. Should we all be racists?” (Father Ted)

TallestSally · 12/07/2024 10:31

As for racism?

He denied Meghan’s alleged experience of it and downgraded it to unconscious bias.

An act which has caused repercussions - and is affecting me and some of my colleagues at the moment.

A changed man?

Easy for a white man to negate racism.

'Fair points 10 years as a Captain with 2 tours of active service. No 1 in the world re his authorship. These are facts I have more if you need them.'

10 years and then had to leave because he either wasn't bright enough or dedicated enough to progress.

No 1 author (well, the author is no 1, not the person who lay on a couch and meanderingly remembered' his truth') - because everyone wanted to hear the dirt, not because they thought Harry was some kind of gifted raconteur. Our local charity shops have so many copies of Spare they can't give them away. Hence, obviously, the delay in the paperback release.

TallestSally · 12/07/2024 10:33

And I say alleged only because they both have shown a tenuous relationship with the truth.

TallestSally · 12/07/2024 10:34

So it is said.

Well that's great as they say , buth others recollections may vary - I had the pleasure to see Yasmina Ali-Brown in a talk last year who was splenetic in her fury as to PP who she met in her role as board member of the RSC.

You've lost me with MUMI and a link to St Meghan Markle Reditt thread is too much of the sewers I refuse to go there - this place is a bastion of good manners and taste and long may it prosper. As for Andrew I'm sure like most he's sees him a sleazebag who should face justice but he is still family after all. But how would I know we are all speculating wildly here according to our own world views.

Backing you here. Completely disgraceful to apologise and excuse such racism and then blame it on learned behaviour from the RF.
Nothing more or less than I’d expect though.

TallestSally · 12/07/2024 10:47

I go by my experiences. I found Prince Phillip charming. Also the Princess Royal.

We don’t know about Mumi apart from the fact that Prince Harry’s name is attached to it.

Like Diddy’s case.

I don’t go on Reddit.

And silence about Andrew while being very vocal about others - who are also family after all - says far more to me than you will know.

Vespanest · 12/07/2024 10:53

The length people will go to minimise Harry, he was 20 when photographed, it was purely his royal privilege that the army turned a blind eye (just like the drug test). If the army had looked at his character in training, a subordinate wouldn’t have to endure racial remarks from the person in power, but again maybe that is just youth! He was a grown assed man when he decided to blame William and Catherine for his stupidity. The whataboutery is astonishing, be as racist as you want we will just blame father, uncle, brother or sister in law as Harry obviously hasn’t got the mental capacity to function independently, except when it come to invictus which is all him. Regular theme when it’s good praise when it bad it’s look over there.

TallestSally · 12/07/2024 10:54

And good manners and taste?

It should not stop anyone from having a legitimate opinion about a racist who downplayed his wife’s experiences.

And bastions of good taste and not going to the sewers did not stop you linking to scurrilous rumours about Rose Hanbury 24 hours ago.

Perhaps it would be prudent to remember THAT before lecturing anyone here.

Uricon2 · 12/07/2024 11:09

I rather feel that the spotlight of scrutiny that has been shone on the governance and finances of the Pat Tillman Foundation by making the award to Harry may be something they come to deeply regret.

The endless invoking of Diana has a shelf life. Generations have grown up who do not remember her in life and this will become more and more marked as time goes by. Using her to make a swipe at Mary Tillman is cheap and TBH rather pathetic.

TallestSally · 12/07/2024 11:20

I agree Uricon2.

With all of it.

TallestSally · 12/07/2024 11:33

I hope Mary Tillman can move forward honouring her son’s service, integrity and values as she sees fit.

I applaud her for questioning the choice of recipient and for shining sunlight into the corners.

The integrity she has shown should be apparent in those receiving awards. Those who represent foundations should lead by example.

It has been quite insightful.

@TallestSally it happened last year too

Thedom · 12/07/2024 11:40

I didn’t watch it, but the images of Harry on stage with his ‘human shields’ of vets just standing there doing nothing, looks beyond pathetic, did any of the three make a comment about Invictus on stage?

i don’t think many people are fooled by his acceptance of the award, and he should never have used Pat Tillmans mother name, a transparent attempt at trying to bury her criticism of him getting the award.

I did some dodgy shit as a "youth" but somehow managed to never dress as a Nazi

To be fair, the 3 vets all made speeches about what Invictus meant to them. They did try to leave the stage but he told them to stay. They are not the problem and neither is Invictus. It is Harry and pay to play awards/dodgy charity that irks.

Its was a thing with some of the punk movement back in the late 70s - Sid Vicious and Siouxie Sue misguidely wore swastikas as a sign of rebellion and a desire to shock. Thankfully society has moved on from where that is any way acceptable.

‘Come back you guys gotta stay here FOR me.’

And again

’you need to be with me’

Not ‘you should be here with me’. No ‘you should be here instead of me’.

Just a ‘you need to do as you are told’.

FOR ME.

Mary Tillman’s face said it all.
