Mary Tillman says " There are recipients far more fitting. He publicly disrespected his family , ran away from service to his country. He is unworthy of this award"

She feels there are recipients far more fitting.

I think she speaks for many.

Well the same could be said for any royal "working" or not.

Yes, but they aren’t getting “awards” are they?

IsoldeWagner · 10/07/2024 19:38

This thread is about Harry and this particular award.
There is no justification for him getting it, which seems to be the popular opinion with all but his most devoted fans.

Vespanest · 10/07/2024 19:55

A conversation on the royals about their dress up and medals is one that could be had but as a point scoring regarding Harry who has done exactly the same. The idea that Harry could have got through officer selection in the RAF or the Navy is ridiculous and he has worn both uniforms. He would have faced court martial for the missing of the drug test and his offensive language. His privilege got him flying and again the idea that Harry was the driving force of invictus but equally was the family scapegoat who was not allowed to shine. How are both true

Well we don't get to vote on Royal Honours and there's been quite a few wronguns in that category over the years. It's a private business organisation with it's own internal procedures for better or worse and one that most folks have never heard of before this manufactured 'controversy'. There's no such thing as bad publicity apparently.Certainly not in the case anyway.

Last years award winners were professional field medics who saved a life on the NFL football field of an athlete suffering cardiac arrest. That was it - standing ovation and tears. Harry will be fine.

I'm not talking about Royal Honours - Harry has plenty of those (which he still wears). So he's not above the others on that score.
I am talking his intention to receive an honour which he should not receive.
It would be good if he would turn it down.
I somehow doubt it. Since being an independent royal, he's certainly gone for all that business big time.

IsoldeWagner · 10/07/2024 20:13

Why Jimmy Savile?
Dear me, this is getting desperate.....

If you watch that video I posted that was who the award went to professional field medics who saved the life of an NFL footballer who suffered cardiac arrest during a game which is their job. I've done the Heimlich twice in my life once on a friend who was choking on a fish bone and second on my sister who swallowed a lump of beef that went down the wrong way. Both were in agony and choking to death and my quick action expelled the offending piece of food that could have killed them. I have training in first aid so I just did what I could but by the ESPY standards I should be in with a shout ! So Harry with his continuing and active passion for INVICTIS and helping to build an enduring legacy should be a shoe in.

Learn the Heimlich it works.

Congratulations to the Duke of Sussex - all the haters do is feed the beast of the voracious media and in doing so ensure their continued popularity and sucess. Meanwhile back at the ranch the BRF award each other medals and titles that are going spare to give the illusion that they are actually doing something useful and necessary for the country and looks good on their bloated chests when they do the 'job'. Prince Edward's Ruritarian uniform positively groans under the weight of them all no doubt well deserved.

Nice attempt at deflection but no cigar for you dear.

IsoldeWagner · 10/07/2024 20:30

No, because he didn't do something heroic in this instance. He took on the UK version of the Warrior Games, supported by the RF. It's a great cause. I've no doubt he's sincere. However, just leading something like this doesn't mean you should get an award! Look at the veterans who take part: less privilege, less money, less access to medical care. Yet the multimillionaire white prince gets the accolades. All wrong.

So basically, you are saying that this is a Mickey Mouse award?

IsoldeWagner · 10/07/2024 20:32

"learn the Heimlich, it works".
How patronising. I first learned it 20 years ago, and practise regularly for my first aid renewal.

Yes - it was a one off folks just doing their job like thousands of others every day saving lives by medical first aid. Harry has at least reached this theshold of doing good and then some in the impact he has undountedly had. This was the incident.

Training Staff Honored At The ESPYS

The Buffalo Bills training staff were honored to receive the Pat Tillman Award for Service during the The 2023 ESPYS. The award honors the life-saving measures performed by the training staff on Jan. 2, 2023 when Bills safety Damar Hamlin went into car...

Okaaay, so how’s this an achievement if Harry has qualified for what you see as a Mickey Mouse award 🤔

IsoldeWagner · 10/07/2024 20:44

"Harry has reached this threshold of doing good"
What , saving someone's life with the Hemlich manoeuvre? No, he was given Invictus. Lots of people work hard to make it successful.
How on earth is that any kind of threshold of doing good?.

Good I've used it twice in anger I wasn't practising.

Good. I know how to do it. No anger, just practise.
