Mary Tillman says " There are recipients far more fitting. He publicly disrespected his family , ran away from service to his country. He is unworthy of this award"

She feels there are recipients far more fitting.

I think she speaks for many.

I will put this here again. Just to show you that the media do not give a crap about what skin colour you are. If you are part of the RF, you’re fair game.
Is it right? No it isn’t, but don’t think that Meg has had it harder than any royal wife.

Hmmmm I don’t remember 70 MPs having to pen a letter for any other royal family member. The racism in the tabloids was blatant.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 05/07/2024 00:04

They didn’t have to. They wanted to. Did the same women afford a similar courtesy to the misogynistic bullying and harassment Catherine received, both during the time she was William’s girlfriend and suffered men right in her face calling her a slag; and during the latest bullying of her as a woman battling cancer? If not, why not? And doesn’t that rather show you that Meghan Markle has been afforded rather more respect and privilege from these powerful people than Catherine has? Far from being unsupported in the UK, MM had plenty.

What sheer nonsense, stereotyping and belittling a diverse group of women by making an assumption they're a monolith!

Where did you get the idiotic idea that what you refer to as WOC are bitter? Or the ridiculous notion that they have issues with their skin colour?

What are you drinking?

DeftLemonDog · 05/07/2024 05:41

The only thing that makes famous people getting awards and medals palatable to me, is when the award or medal giving are bringing attention to good causes. I’d rather unsung heroes get all the awards and medals, but if this brings more attention to ill or wounded veterans, and organisations like Invictus, then I’m not going to grumble about it.

It’s become clear to me that individuals and charities are being targeted just for being friends with, or working with, people like Harry, Meghan, and members of the Royal Family. We’ve seen the Trussell Trust be targeted by the more extreme Sussex fans, and now we are seeing the Pat Tillman and the Espys being targeted by the more extreme Royal Family fans.

IsoldeWagner · 05/07/2024 05:45

That Trussell Trust thing was excellent! Using something which was for celebrity and money making, and instead, creating a method for giving to food banks. Just the exact opposite of everything the Sussexes stand for.

BemusedAmerican · 05/07/2024 11:57

@DeftLemonDog Pat Tillman's mother criticized Harry with valid reasons. No mention of Meghan.

The 60k Americans who signed the petition feel that Harry getting the award is a travesty of justice and against the values of American hero. You have no right to belittle them by calling them H &M haters.

Can you evidence this?

I didn’t call anyone ‘haters.’

You are reading things that are not there.

I did talk about more extreme fans of both the Sussexes and the Royal Family. I feel that I’m seeing the situation quite clearly. I’ve belittled no one.

BemusedAmerican · 05/07/2024 12:29

Then we will agree to disagree.

I wouldn't call Mary Tillman and tens of thousands of pissed off Americans "more extreme Royal Family fans". Especially since none of them have brought in US police and Met Police to threaten a food bank (Thrussell Trust) or tried to destroy a small, family-owned business (Small Jam Co. Pacifica).

DeftLemonDog · 05/07/2024 12:55

I think some of those people would be ‘more extreme royal family fans.’

Links to the petition have been posted on certain Twitter accounts, like ‘Meghan’s Mole’ , a known account regularly posting extremely disparaging, often quite disgusting things, about Meghan. And Harry.

The abuse of them is vile. The worst I’ve ever seen. I blame in no small part the UK press and the likes of Piers, Wooten, Clarkson etc who were all published in main stream newspapers. It seemed to sanction a free for all on the www as a result. Meghan and Harry are slowly making their way forwards. They’ve made mistakes but nothing they have done warrants such hate. I will say that more people are waking up to what is happening and thus they are being supported.

Gorgonemilezola · 05/07/2024 13:58

Are you saying that Harry and Meghan have experienced worse abuse than members of the royal family? Particularly William and Kate. Particularly from the Sussex Squad, whose members have been publically thanked by Harry and Meghan, and who accompany them on their pseudo royal tours. Tell me, did you go back and have a more in depth look at Celebitchy, that you were so quick to quote from earlier?

AutumnCrow · 05/07/2024 14:08

That's the opinion of Holly Lynch, a former Labour MP. She persuaded other MPs to co-sign it.

I'd be interested to know if any of them would produce or co-sign a similar letter today.

@TicTacToes Accepting this award will be a huge misstep though. They’re not particularly newsworthy here in the US, it’s the British media that covers them. For their sake, I really hope he declines it, otherwise they’ll get negative publicity here as well and people will distance themselves from them.

With regard to the Tillman award, the Netflix wrap, the stories about imminent reconciliation and olive branches and the AOR stuff - it is the US magazines and newspapers that are pumping out the several-a-week "sources say" articles. In the UK, only the Daily Express meets this kind of coverage, the other publications are not that interested.

Their coverage in these US articles is generally positive, but the below-the-line comments indicate a very negative attitude towards H&M.

BruFord · 05/07/2024 14:30

@Rhaidimiddim I guess I’m not reading the right sources then!
I haven’t seen much about it here, I only knew about it because it popped up online.

Mind you, we’ve got such major problems to contend with (presidential debates anyone?!) that it’s likely buried atm.

Ha, and we've just had an election! That's why I'm reading so much stuff that isn't mainstream.

TinklySnail · 05/07/2024 15:03

This is in response the Meghan’s Oprah interview. This is not evidence of blatant racism.
Half of what she said has been proven false.

As an American veteran I can tell you it's made the rounds of the veterans community here and we are not happy. Lots of us have signed it or it wouldn't have made it to 60,000 signatures.

Exactly. My 84-year-old father, an Army veteran, forwarded me the link and asked me to sign it. He doesn't even know my opinion on Harry or his family - we've simply never discussed it.

Are you seriously saying that any criticism of H and M has been worse than that directed at Catherine since January ? Really ?
As for the MP’s letter . In 2019 there were 220 female MPs yet only 70 signed …..
I do wonder now that so much of what was claimed by H and M on OW , such a letter would receive even 7 signatures.

The ex service forums in the UK, generally the unofficial ones can be brutal about Harry and Meghan, Germany certainly changed minds. Whoever came up with the idea of Meghan leading the UK ex soldiers in shorts and sandals was downright stupid. I’m ex military and spouses who somehow believed they were there husbands/wife rank were really took this piss out of. The arrse forum is overly brutal.

Was this letter signed when the BLM movement was in full swing?

Tumbleweeds on this I note. Although I suspect that for some on here, your post and questions hit a little too close to home.
Talk about a sugar rush.
