Mary Tillman says " There are recipients far more fitting. He publicly disrespected his family , ran away from service to his country. He is unworthy of this award"

She feels there are recipients far more fitting.

I think she speaks for many.

The thing is if he meant to be representing the Invictus Games, he’s not even very good at it. The speech at legends of aviation or whatever was frankly embarrassing. There must have been an athlete who would do it better.
I would say they should have given it to the Invictus team, but then it opens it up to MM joining in. Her presence has been a real negative distraction to the games.

TallestSally · 02/07/2024 07:46

The shame of it is, is that if people cannot disassociate Harry and Invictus, he will end up taking the shine off Invictus.

I don't know the facts about where the money came from, but Harry is allowing invictus become a platform for his wife, what with the poncing around in Canada and Nigeria under the name
Of IG, thousands of pounds around travel, clothing, entourage. Alongside MM leading veterans in a 'march' - no doubt if he's given this award (I bloody hope he isn't) I'd be interested to see how she gets herself on camera.

Vespanest · 02/07/2024 08:54

As Nigeria was touted as an Invictus visit, and how that came out, I’d place bets on Meghan being front and centre in Canada. The only storm I can see changing that is the Israeli athletes and a possible kick back.

MaturingCheeseball · 02/07/2024 09:17

I saw elsewhere comments from the SS about Pat Tillman’s mother. Absolutely unbelievable. Calling her a b and worse.

I can’t imagine Meghan will go to the award ceremony - although Serena Williams is hosting it so there may be a chance. I simply can’t get my head around the level of thick skin . And surely Invictus have had a word in Harry’s ear that making it the Meghan show is bringing the organisation into disrepute?

Neither of them listen to anyone but each other. They would have been an absolute liability if they had continued on in the RF as working members.

I read somewhere that Invictus were trying to get Mike Tindal on board . Will see if I can find article .
I know he has been a prat at times but would be a huge improvement on Harry .

DeftLemonDog · 02/07/2024 09:37

ESPN said in a statement: "ESPN, with the support of the Tillman Foundation, is honoring Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, specifically for the work of The Invictus Games Foundation as it celebrates its 10th year promoting healing through the power of sport for military service members and veterans around the world. While we understand not everyone will agree with all honorees selected for any award, the Invictus Games Foundation does incredible work, and ESPN believes this is a cause worth celebrating."

The above was posted on here earlier by a pp. I’ve linked it again anyway. People - Pat Tillman’s mum Mary (Danny Tillman) article

So, it seems Marie Tillman Shenton, the widow of Pat Tillman, is co-founder of the Pat Tillman Foundation and is a board member. https://pattillmanfoundation.org/leadership/ and is supportive of the award going to Harry.

Pat’s mum, Mary Tillman, however, feels differently (according to this article). And according to the DM and yahoo etc..

But now it’s looking to me like this latest tabloid/social media frenzy is simply that a frenzy.

I think awards and medals should go to the usually unrecognised charity heroes, but I feel the tabloid media has not been transparent in this. By design?

Prince Harry's ESPY Award Draws Backlash from Pat Tillman's Mother

The decision to give Prince Harry the Pat Tillman Award for Service at the ESPY Awards has caused controversy, with Mary Tillman speaking out for "more fitting" recipients.

@DeftLemonDog, do you think that these newspapers and media outlets are exploiting Harry's unpopularity?

Vespanest · 02/07/2024 09:49

The ESPN statement has given some of the trolls on Twitter carte blanche for the mother now. Not good at all

It just shows how vile some of the more extreme Sussex supporters are quite frankly.

MummyJ12 · 02/07/2024 10:26

The sewer squad and the trolls are stooping low, even for them, on this one.
Why are they blaming the Royal Family for this mess? The lack of intelligence and reasoning from them is staggering.
They are also up to the usual distraction techniques of getting certain rumours trending on X again. Truly vile. Then at the same time they are trying to convince us that Harry is “winning at life” and is so happy. Yeah right 😂.
Although he will still proudly get up on that stage and pat himself on the back accepting this award because he is also more than a little bit thick and absolutely tone deaf.

MummyJ12 · 02/07/2024 10:29

And to bully a mother who has lost her son. Who both have and had more integrity in their little fingers than the pampered, petulant Harry. It’s all just disgraceful. Yet perfectly indicative of what the Sussexes and their Squad now stand for.

I agree that it’s not good. I think it’s obscene to criticise her.

TinklySnail · 02/07/2024 11:03

Harry would gain more credibility by refusing the award.
He is not worthy of it.

Sadly, there is no-one who is immune from this heinous behaviour mummy

Imagine targeting a woman who is determined to honour those who display the same selfless values as her son.

Looking at the core values, she is right to question the recipient of the award.

Pity they couldn't be arsed to help or support the first black member of the family and instead did deals with the papers to blacken her name and brief against both meghan and Harry.

I mean her job was to sit there and be grateful for the opportunity to be degraded by the press, supported by the institution she worked for. Balsck people in the UK and commonwealth, I know the Royal family are supposed to also represent you but know your place and shut up at spiteful, malicious briefings otherwise we (with the full complicity of Kensington Palace) brief against you and share personal details.

If you try to do the same with the truth or with the same weapons we'll share how unfit that makes you and how someone like you or your race should never have been allowed to do more than clean something in the presence of the saintly royal family (Andrew included)

Degraded like ALL the RF wives had to endure. Nothing to do with her being mixed race.
Stop making it about her skin colour when it’s got F all to do with it. The majority of RF supporters were behind both H&M at the beginning.

I think at least MT wouldn’t make it all about him and Z.

I’ve no doubt that they would focus on Invictus. Not themselves.

Apart from all the good reasons set out in this thread why Harry is not a suitable recipient for this award, I would like to add this. Pat Tillman died under "friendly fire". His mother had to fight the government tooth and nail for the truth about his death to be revealed. The killing of a soldier by their own side is devastating for all involved.

In Spare, Harry writes about sending a Typhoon on a target practice training exercise to track his father's car:

“New target. Gray Audi. Headed southeast from my position down track. Towards a big silver barn oriented east-west. The Typhoon tracked Pa, did a low pass straight over him, almost shattering the windows of his Audi. But ultimately spared him. On my orders. It went on to blow a silver barn to smithereens.”

Anyone who is willing to put this sick fantasy in writing to earn money is not worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as Pat Tillman.

upinaballoon · 02/07/2024 12:12

He has no idea of what is and isn't appropriate. This one passage shows what a twerp he is and disrespectful. Here he is boasting about his " privilege" as he sees it.

I have no doubt that H’s time in the forces were full of interesting stories.

Made up pish like this?

Spared? On his orders?

Genuinely, I have heard some jackanory sandbag stories in my time. Think along the lines of a fisherman saying the fish was thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis big. More than an element of truth to it but with slight but bullshit exaggeration.

This one is no fish.

But it is a jumped over shark.

If this had anything like a ring of truth to it, he would have been disciplined at best, but more likely bounced. Dishonourably.

The man is a lying buffoon. Thought of as a complete joke by most who have served or are serving.

And a dangerous joke at that.

I had read that bit of Spare, and thought it was childish. I hadn't realised that Pat Tillman had died through "friendly fire". It's all such bad taste on Harry's part.
