Kensington Palace have released a new photo of William and the children to mark his 42nd birthday. The photo was taken by Catherine.

Honestly I think this is one of my favourite photos of the family!

It's not a bad photo - I'd give it 8 out of 10. Points lost for lack of definition on one of the subjects, and unoriginality of pose. Highly commended for overall composition, and noted that focusing would have been tricky given the speed at which subjects were moving.

Do you really think anyone in the RF cares about your opinion on a family photograph.

it's not as if it was taken by Demarchelier

Lampzade · 21/06/2024 19:33

Great photo

Does anyone at all give a tiny shit about that poster's opinion? on anything?

The composition is better, but it's ever so slightly out of focus (on Louis).

I like the blur.

In this photo it conveys the sense of movement. “Go Fast Louis!”

Why mark it out of 10 in the first place? It's not fucking homework! Three children under the age of 11? That's what's hateful here, attitudes like this!

'Marks out of 10' it's just a way of assessing how much you like something; I don't think there's a reason to equate this with hatred (especially when the mark was quite high). I wouldn't usually consider the subject of a photo in the course of assessing its merits, unless it was a particularly unusual subject for a photo, which might increase the score; or something exploitative/distasteful (e.g. 'Page 3' type photo) which would probably disqualify it altogether.

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 21/06/2024 19:36

Actually I think I would like to see @boombang's portfolio of family photos. As they are claiming to be a better photographer than the rest of us.

I think some people are jealous of the Wales family, aren't they?

Just a bit 😂

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 21/06/2024 19:38

Why is anyone feeling the need to "assess the merits" of a family snap bunged on socials to celebrate a birthday ? Or am I missing something and this is Kate's portfolio for a professional photography qualification ?

I just can't fathom why people need to be like this. It's utterly bizarre. It's a nice snapshot taken by a mum of a day on the beach.

Oh my actual god, how long did it take you to think that up??? Why can't you just accept it as a simple photo? Don't bloody look at it any more if that's your attitude!!! Taking a photo of your kids is "not an acceptable way to treat children"??? Well fuck me pink and call me rosey, I better report myself to the NSPCC!!

If they had been sitting stiffly in a row wearing 1930s type children's clothes, it would also not be the right way to treat them, why couldn't they be out on a beach enjoying themselves and jumping around, etc, etc.

Can't win with some, can she, Catherine.

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 21/06/2024 19:41

Most accurate @IsoldeWagner

they are welcome to their life. It's most unenviable in my eyes. I wouldn't be Kate for all the tea in China. And believe me I would kill to have her figure, looks and wardrobe ! But the price they pay.. no thanks

Think the Palace were also sending out a not so subliminal message!! ‘Haters gonna hate, shake it off!! 🤣 Brilliant!

I didn't think of that - but yes!!!

Indeedy. It's a lovely family snap of a Dad and his kids taken by their Mum. It's not up for 'o' level art crit. It's also not the Sistine Chapel. Although from the level of shrieking involved it might as well be.

Genuine question:

Why are Charlotte’s shorts shorter than the boys?

This is such a weird and odd question. Why are you picking on a child's pair of shorts? I really hope this isn't an attempt at sexualising a little girl?

It's just a way of looking at pictures that aren't otherwise of enormous interest/emotional impact. I often do this with generic photos/art work, e.g. if I'm in a restaurant waiting for food to arrive, in the reception of a hotel waiting to check in, etc. I will pass the time by marking any pictures on the walls out of ten and giving a little rationale for my mark.

Sometimes I play a game where if I had to choose one to put in my living room (and in the rules of the game it would have to stay there permanently) which one would I choose and why; whether there are some nice choices or it's thrashing out the lesser of evils. It's interesting and makes you notice things around you.

jealousy of what exactly?

Because some people, for reasons known only to them but that the rest of us can speculate about, have very large sticks up their arses regarding certain members of the RF. That they come over as spiteful, small minded, nit picking, hyper critical and just not very pleasant people at all doesn't bother them.

A happy family having a nice time, obviously.

I wouldn't have thanked my parents for taking me to Disneyland. I wouldn't have gone so far as to threaten to phone whatever the equivalent of Childline was in my young day, but I'd certainly not have been happy about it. Not everyone likes Disney cartoons, rides, artificial environments, crowds etc. I always preferred the type of holiday that involved going somewhere quiet and peaceful. Fortunately, my parents were of the same mind as me, for once.

Calm down, it was only a daytrip!! My kids loved it actually even DC3 though that child (adults now) has a quirky sense of humour - said the best part of that whole trip was when I fell on my arse at the Eiffel Tower (after making sure I wasn't hurt!)

You should live a little!

Looks like the North Norfolk coast. Possibly Runton? There are massive dunes there.

I think that poster is channelling their inner Jacob Rees-Mogg.
