Kensington Palace have released a new photo of William and the children to mark his 42nd birthday. The photo was taken by Catherine.

Honestly I think this is one of my favourite photos of the family!

According to Google, 68% of UK residents have never been to a Disney park. Do you think only 32% of people in the UK are a bundle of laughs on a night out?

I would imagine a lot of people can’t afford to go to Disney even though they would love to .
Having been to Disney Florida , I know how much it costs !

I expect my family is happier and has a nicer time

I think one doth protest too much.

I would hazard a guess that the 68% aren't dissing something they haven't experienced, there's the difference.

Saying something isn't for you is not tantamount to dissing it. Some things you know you won't like because you don't like other, similar things. I've found theme parks in the UK too crowded and busy, and I tend to feel sick on rides so I'm left holding everyone else's stuff on the sidelines. Given that, it's not unreasonable of me to draw the conclusion Disneyland isn't likely to be my cup of tea.

Gorgonemilezola · 21/06/2024 20:27

Nah, don't think so. The photo doesn't suggest miserable carpers. Unlike some of the commenters on this thread.

doesn't matter what you "think" - you are still wrong

Well, we can't know either way, but, just from threads on here about Disneyland, I'd say about 50% have no interest in going.

This poster is hilariously pompous. I wonder if they have any idea quite how they come across?

I'm actually pretty sure that they don't. Still, they've managed to make themselves the centre of attention the last few pages, so job done.

You're the president of Sandringham WI and I claim my £5.

Hello? You cannot categorically say that you are happier than someone else. It’s entirely subjective. Not to mention unpleasant and smug

You know what, if DM wasn't dead I'd swear that poster is her. Always has to be right and prone to juvenile passive aggressiveness and tit for tat to and fro making them sound about ten years old.

You hate it?

That's quite a strong reaction to an inoffensive photo, surely? Why not just ignore it? It has no impact on your life and nobody in the photo knows or cares that you exist.

Saying you love it is an equally strong reaction. The photo is by a public figure of other public figures in a controversial institution and is up for criticism - not everyeveryone will agree it's nice (I think it's awful tbh).

It's probably worth pointing out that those involved in the photo neither know nor care that anyone here exists, no matter how much you might try to outdo each other with gushing praise of how insightful and wonderful it is and how talented Kate is.

Nobody, but nobody has claimed that.
Nowhere.
Loving a picture is a far healthier responce than hating it.

I wonder where you saw that because it's not what I've been reading.

I neither love it nor hate it; I think it's a cute family photo, and I'm glad that the Princess of Wales has been well enough to go out with her family and take it. The End.

Hate is a strong emotion. I only dispense it in tiny amounts, and for far more major reasons. It's a tad over-invested to "hate" a photo of people you don't even know!

The thing is that, taken at face value, this is a happy photo. So on an empathetic level, reacting positively makes sense. That is why posters are saying that “hating” the photo is a strong reaction. It’s totally counter intuitive to “hate” something where people seem to be expressing enjoyment. So in an entirely instinctive level, praise for the photo makes more sense 😊

Gorgonemilezola · 21/06/2024 21:39

(think it's awful tbh).

Why?

There's no gushing - just posters enjoying a fun photo of a family in the public eye who've been through a lot over the last couple of years and been on the receiving end of some pretty awful lies and hatred. No one is suggesting the photo is 'insightful', it's just a nice, informal family snap. Not deserving of the brick bats thrown their way.

Only unqualified praise of the photograph is permitted here. Awarding it a miserly 8 out 10 puts you firmly on the 'every minor aspect of your life that you happen to reveal must be ridiculed and sneered at' list.

I think it's awful because it's badly photoshopped. If by some miracle it isn't, it certainly looks that way. The composition and colours are off as well imo.

Netflix Smile GIF by Taylor Swift

I agree that the PoW and the kids won’t give a shiny shite about what we think of their happy family snap.

If the reports are true they’ll be too busy dancing away to Taylor.

Shake it off. You know you want to.

RedRosesPinkLilies · 21/06/2024 21:47

@Alltheprettyseahorses i wasn’t thinking that deeply. It’s a nice photo, end of.

Honestly, why give it so much thought?

I have so many problems in my life - cancer, with a bad prognosis to start with.
So I’m just saying it’s a nice photo. I don’t have time to think more about it.
I don’t understand the attention you’re putting into it

Alltheprettyseahorses · 21/06/2024 21:48

Nobody, well, normal, gives a shiny about photoshopping. And by your comment you have no idea whether it is or isn't photoshopped. Picking holes in a happy family photo says a lot more about you than it does about the photographer.

What a load of bollocks. The point is that the photo expresses happiness and posters are incredulous that anyone can be so mean spirited as to be sneery and critical. It smacks of just critiquing it because of who is in the photo 😊

That made up nonsense claiming people are fawning over Kate. "how insightful and wonderful and talented Kate is".
You are the only person who has said that.
No-one else.

I've already explained I often critique photos/artwork in this way. 8/10 is good score. 80% in an exam would be a merit.
