However, Meghan is not "Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex" because the use of the non princess first name doesn't happen unless you are divorced eg Sarah, Duchess of York, or Serena, the Countess of Snowdon.
That's where Meghan is technically incorrect, however it's just that and no more.

Mycatatemydinner · 01/06/2024 09:57

Aż I just think everything they do is so half-arsed. They don’t seem to have much of a clue about anything, but are desperately scrambling for ideas that will make them millions.

Ellaelle · 01/06/2024 09:59

Well at least everyone knows of whom I am referring when I say princess Meg!

Ellaelle · 01/06/2024 09:53

I admire your commitment to knowing every single detail I just utilise Google and wiki and gossip lol.

Perhaps I should go into the trending thread about the ducks.

No ducks given re titles and calling Meghan princess Meghan due to the fact that she IS a princess of the UK (according to Wikipedia)

The thing is that I like accuracy and am interested in history.
Diana was never "Princess Diana" - she was The Princess of Wales, then Diana, the Princess of Wales. She was not born a princess.
That term and "Princess Kate" are just media shorthands.
Don't use unverified sources eg Wikipedia if you genuinely want accurate information.

DelectableMe · 01/06/2024 10:02

Again, @Ellaelle - you are right - she is a princess of the UK.
Her style however is not "Princess Meghan".
Come off Wikipedia!

smilesy · 01/06/2024 10:02

Ellaelle · 01/06/2024 09:55

I also say princess Kate and everyone finds a problem with that too!

Because it’s wrong

Ellaelle · 01/06/2024 10:04

A few days ago when mail on line made that whole hooohaa about the Nigerian first lady's speech, well apparently she has made a personal statement condemning those that thought she was referring to Meghan because she clearly wasn't! It's in the people, people are really going to be devasted that it wasn't about princess Meghan, because they tried to make it about her. This is what I mean, people that hate her always end up with egg o their faces and she ends up excelling!

Yes but you're a budding Historian, you have to remember not everyone is as rigid and clued up as you

LaMarschallin · 01/06/2024 10:09

Obviously. Lol.

The late Princess of Wales wasn't Princess Diana.
Catherine is the current Princess of Wales, not Princess Catherine. So, yes, you're wrong to say "Princess Kate".
However, Catherine will be Queen and in the history books.
Maybe you only know about Disney princesses?
Cartoons aren't challenging to watch, are they? Lol

I am not a budding historian - I am one!
I'm not rigid. I do value accuracy, however, and always check sources for credibility.
I take nothing on face value, which is why I always watch BBC Verify.
If you would like accurate information, avoid Wikipedia and social media. Go to proper historical or political websites.

Ellaelle · 01/06/2024 10:10

Anyway guys thanks for the history lesson, please forgive me if I have neither the inclination nor the intention to be as rigid as you with the titles, I was going to say I have life, but that would be too rude! Anyway I'll try and check I later, thanks for being respectful x

It's a bit like the Eugenie and Beatrice characters in the Windsors.

I was going to say I have life, but that would be too rude

Let's hope that's true.

MrsLeonFarrell · 01/06/2024 10:13

Unless everyone wants to spend their weekends arguing about "Princess Meghan" I'd ignore this. The poster brings it up deliberately to get a response and has done on numerous threads.

It's almost like some people are paid by the post, but that can't possibly be right.

Should say I have "a" life

My pleasure. I am always happy to help with information.
I have a very enjoyable life, made even more so by my enduring love of History!

You're right.
It's been explained over and over.
Nobody can have "life" and fail to understand a fairly easy concept without deliberately misunderstanding.

bridgerbelle · 01/06/2024 10:37

Let's please ignore the obvious disrupter. They pop onto every Meghan and Harry thread with different name changes, they are either playing ignorant or they just aren't very bright, but either way it completely details the thread each time and goes off topic. Which is their intention. Starve it of the oxygen of attention and they might get bored.

smellasmelle · 01/06/2024 10:38

I’d be inclined to be respectful if I thought others were practicing what they preached.

But I would have more respect for those who are honest and upfront with their rudeness.

Those who make a rude comment and then are mealiemouthed about it as though they are in wide eyed ingenue mode?

Not so much.

And they don’t have my respect. Just my pity. I am not inclined to engage with that kind of pish.

smellasmelle · 01/06/2024 10:40

Cross post but sentiment echoed with you and the others who think similarly bridger

bridgerbelle · 01/06/2024 10:41

Here's a question for the thread - when did we all start suspecting they were liars? I liked Meghan just fine at first, I think it was when all the drama started with them releasing statements about being half in, half out which then hadn't been agreed with the palace which made it obvious one or more parties was trying to manipulate things. Then the Oprah interview was my big 'wtf?' moment.

DelectableMe · 01/06/2024 10:44

The Oprah interview.
Being a rigid historian, I knew that the claims about Archie's title, and security, were just bollox.

You're right.
I've been foolish enough to think they just didn't and couldn't understand and maybe they could be educated.
I suppose if they haven't managed to get it now, they never will.

smellasmelle · 01/06/2024 10:49

OW for me.

The differing stories and allegations just reeked of sprat.

I thought the bolt for freedom was grand. That life would not have been for me either.

I also thought she was a breath of fresh air initially.

However, with time comes wisdom.

The interview plus Spare changed my opinion.

It is hard to be a breath of fresh air when you come out with such shite.
